Catera
Strength:
It is a classy car and the used ones are fairly cheap.
Weakness:
Could use a little more power. 200hp is great, but the car weighs too much! Right when I bought the car, I had a few minor problems with it. (eg: door locks not working, radio problems, nothing too big) But everything was covered under warranty, and the Cadillac service was great. I was worried about what would happen when my car came off the warranty, but suprisingly I have not had to bring it in to the dealership once withing the past 2 years! For the price that these used cateras go for now, you really cant beat the value. |

Strength:
The car is really nice to drive. The stereo is excellent. Like I said, it's really a nice car to drive.
Weakness:
The got it right except the quality of the components appears to be very poor. The Opel Purchasing Dept. needs to buy more German components instead of sourcing them all to East Europe countries. One of my German friends said they had the same problem in Europe with the Omegas. He had a friend who returned his station wagon under Germany's lemon law. I've had 4 Passats and now this. Seems like they are always in the shop for something or other. On the other hand, I've had 25 new American cars from Sunbirds to Corvettes. Only one of them went to the shop for repairs other than normal maintenance. Says something about poor build quality in Euroland. I went into this eyes wide open. I knew there was a few issues but didn't realize the magnitude. The car has 34,000 miles and last week I replaced the valve cover gaskets and fan blower motor for the tidy sum of $1145. I still smell oil so it didn't solve the problem. Meanwhile, they want to do just about everything under the sun to your car. So far - new tires, new brake pads, front rotors, and sensors, new windshield (minor scratches), fixed door latch, a couple of recalls, and all in 3 months. I still need to fix the shifter cable as the key decides it doesn't want to come out on occasion and I have a laundry list of items the local Caddy dealer recomends to repair. Great ride and handling, great radio
Weakness:
Everything elso Same problems as the other reviews. This car must be an embarrassement to Caddilac because they wont give you a plug nickel for it when you want to trade it in. Finally traded it in on a 2003 Honda Accord at a great loss. Similar Products Used: Pontiac Grand Prix which was a great car |

Why did thy put North Star engine in it in the U.S. while we on the European Continent can have fun with Opel made engines whitch has no failures? (We have 2,6 and 3,2 V6 and we got 2,5 Turbo Diesel) This is my 3'rd Omega(Catera) in a row. They have brougt me nothing but Happiness! I don't know what they do to the cars over at your part of the world but our Opel manufactured Omega's are really good in all ways. My 3 (Catera's) (1995 Caravan-1995 Sedan and 2000 sedan)on them I'we never had any other expenses with them than ordinary Dealer-services.I recommend everyone to try and get one yourselves! This Car Eats BMW and Mercedeses for Breakfast! C - Can't Start A - Always in the shop T - Too many problems E - Electical System can't be fixed R - Requires a mechanic to ride in trunk A - A--holes who sold these cars should make some type of compensation. JUDAS H PRIEST!!!!What a hunk of sh-t!!Whether this cars design came from the Opel in Germany or the U.S. pieced this car together, all I can say is these 2 world super powers built a car while on drugs!! Not only did I report my problems to the Better Business Buruea and GM headqaurters but my Catera almost qualified for the Illinois State Lemon Law. To qualify you need 4 of the same problems within a year after purchase to get compensated. In my case it was the battery. Since I owned the car (2.5 years) the battery has died on me exactly 16 times. In addition...the sunroof likes to open when it wants, power steering goes out because the car doesn't know any better. There is a huge list!!! The dealer (Motorwerks, Barrington, IL) fixes the problems as they occur, but if the problems don't occur when the car is at the dealer they think that you are making these problems up and they won't fix it because they say there is nothing to fix. COME ON GUYS, LETS GET PRO-ACTIVE AND TAKE THE WORD OF THE CUSTOMER THAT THESE PROBLEMS EXIST!!! I know that GM Headquarters and all Cadillac dealerships know that this car sucks so they are shafting all the current owners of the Catera because it would probably put them out of business if they did the "right thing." Cadillac should go pound some sand!!! Meanwhile I'm buying Japanese. Similar Products Used: BMW 530i, |

Anything to do with the engine! Nothing but problems, it eats up oil, runs like a piece of crap. We have had a $400.00 sensor replaced on it, and there are still a list of problems. I will never buy a cadillac again! |

Strength:
When it is NOT in the shop, the ride and comfort level is excellent.
Weakness:
Been in the repair shop for non-maintenance repairs 18 times in 11 months. Purchased in December, 2001 with about 25,000 miles on it. Nothing but problems since I have had it. As of November, 2002 this car has been in the shop 18 times for repairs that do not include normal maintenance items such as oil changes. Tires had to be replaced at 36,000 miles. Door locks have been worked on 5 times, all types of sensors have been replaced. Water pump, timing belt, and tensioners all have been recalled. Oil cooler cover and O-rings had to be replaced. Steering wheel squeaks. Idle runs high. Replaced air check valve and water valve...and the list goes on. I have contacted Cadillac requesting an extension of the warranty. They gave me a confirmation number and told me they would get back with me and have never called back. I have called back 4 times and get nothing but the run around. Any suggestions on how to get action from Cadillac? I tried to trade it and get a real car and I am so upside down because of the re-sale value AND other dealers know that this car is a piece of junk. Strength:
Smooth ride, very roomy interior, especially back seat. Great looks, low maintenence and good service, IF you can find a good dealer, otherwise it's trouble.
Weakness:
Could have used a bit more power. Best car I have ever owned. I think most of the complaints listed here have to do with bad dealers than the car itself. Once I switched to a better dealer, they have taken care of anything wrong quickly with no cost to me and no questions asked. Unfortunately you have some horrible Cadillac dealers out there, but the car itself is great and I have had very little trouble with it. Very smooth ride, nice and heavy, but plenty of pickup too. |
