Cadillac Catera
Strength:
Nice look and decent ride.
Weakness:
Too many to list! I agree with all reviews. This car is a piece of junk and has cost me thousands! Now I'm having an oil problem. I've been sending the car back and forth to Cadillac dealership regarding an odor from the hood of the car and they couldn't find anything. I take it to Sears for an oil change and they tell me the car is BURNING oil- not good. Cadillac mechanics couldn't find this?????? AMAZING! I HATE THIS CAR! Similar Products Used: Pontiac Sunbird way back in 1986. This car was a piece of junk too! |

TRA BUTLER
Strength:
BIG NAME, GOOD RADIO, GREAT LOOK
Weakness:
SHINES LIKE GOLD RUNS LIKE JUNK This is the worst car we have ever purchased. It has been a complete nightmare from the date of purchase. The car was purchased with an extended warranty and we had it serviced for the tensior, head lamps, brightlights, and the sunroof. The extended warranty is now gone and the sunroof does not work, the bright lights work at random, the door makes a loud cracking sound, the drive belt tensioner, drive belt, and the water pump have been defective. There was a letter issued to advise you that one of these conditions may occur for the water pump, cam drive timing belt idler. The car is a piece of junk and WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK. The dealers and the service dept. do not want to honor the recalls and they say the parts fixed are not on the recall. Therefore you have to pay for a problem that more than likely will come back. I plan to take acion by notifying the General Attorney's office, consumer affairs dept.,and any office who will listen. Please do the same in your state. It is time to start taking action against being ripped off. We work too hard to pay Cadillac for the car and for repairs. You would think they have enough money. pissed off Catera owner
Strength:
Ride........ that's it. Looks nice.
Weakness:
Everything else. This car is the worst car ever made. Luckily cadillac is going to replace the engine that only had 36000 miles on it. At first look and drive, it was very impressive, but only got to drive for about three weeks total out of the 7 months that have owned. Has been in shop most of the time. Cooling system failed. Electrical problems. Cracked head due to cooling system. Power window switches worn out. Tires ware within 35000. Air conditioning failed. Traction control failed. Transmission problems don't exist according to cadillac, but car shifts in and out of all gears at it own will. Sometimes smooth, but usually not. Headlamps and parking lamps fail frequently. Strength:
Nothing.
Weakness:
everything I bought my Catera in 2000 thinking I was getting a great deal, 26000 miles for $16,000, I was very wrong, what I did do was purchase a major headache. This car is an Absolute Piece of Junk. From the time I purchased the car until now, it has been nothing short of a nightmare to own. From the ratteling exhaust to the engine failure while driving on the interstate during rush hour. Cadillac will not assume responsibility for any of the problems that I have complained about, no factory warranty, only when there is a recall, which there is, on just about everything under the hood. It's sad to say that I will never buy another GM car again, especially not a Cadillac. |

Strength:
Handling, Interior materials, stereo. Excellent value for a used car purchase - nothing else compares.
Weakness:
It would be nice to have 300HP rather than 200HP. Fantastic car. Excellent handling, seats, stereo. Fit and finnish and interior materials are second to none. The car has been rock solid dependable. Best car I've ever owned. |

Strength:
When working, nice ride.
Weakness:
electrical, tires, brakes, maintenance costs, low resale value It's been said before but worth saying again: it's a maintenance nightmare! Tires, brakes and battery wear too fast. Alignments are good for about a month but not much more. And how about that "check engine" indicator? Mysteriously comes on and goes off. A dealer check of this problem produces the same answer: bad O2 sensor for the forth time! Come On! Don't buy this one. Even GM discontinued it. Similar Products Used: Saab 9000 |

Treachery
Strength:
Cadillac at it's finest for the money. Plenty of bang for the buck. Exceptional engine (trust me.. i really put it to the test). Sweet leather interior. I get the "hand crafted" feel. It's a Cadillac! Built to last! I'd pick Cadillac over a Mercedes, Lexus or BMW in terms of longetivy, any day.
Weakness:
Engine could use a bigger throttle body. It kinda lacks in responsiveness. Suspension could be stiffer. I feel that the car is floating or sliding, at times. The 16 inch rims are fine but a fatter {stock} tire size would make the ride much better. You can "feel" more of the road. I managed to to have 245/55 ZR-16's. It made the overall ride much better. Stereo controls are not too good. You better read the manual and memorize where everything is. Easy to get lost when trying to adjust the tonal control and such. Despite the many negative things i've read about the Catera, my particular model has been absolutely great! No issues whatsoever. Excellent Bose stereo! Can't say enough about it. All my Metal CD's plays with expectional clarity. From Boston to Van Halen- wonderful! Power comes on smooth. The fun begins at 90mph. People expect an old man driving a Cadillac but WHOOOOSH! The soft leather interior smells like i'm in a Wilson's leather jacket store. Love the smell of leather. The heated seats are made of soft leather. I'm afraid to move while sitting down in fear of ripping the leather. The overall feel of the interior is as good, if not better than my Mercedes E500, IMHO. |

back seets are nice but in another car
Weakness:
terrible electrical system, used up tires like crazy. too many useless gadgets that malfunction regularly. many many problems under the hood, smple repairs can be done by dealership only, engine is blown after only 70,000 odd miles. Terrible car, I WANT MY MONEY BACK. There were so many problems and recalls at the start that I have been afraid to take this car more than towing distance from my home. Pully went &left me stranded, heated seats got so hot had to get out or fry, wears tires like crazy, all sorts of light problems, break lights dont work and no one knows why, hot water valve leaked out all the anti freez & had to be replased now whole inside of car smells of antifreze, has been in the shop 14 times, mechanics know they laugh when you say catera, now its recalled again but engine is blown, head gasket they think oil got into cooling system which will also have to be replased, we should not accept this, this car does not work never did, it was a lemon the day I bought it, GM knows this and his responsibility for the product they sell, Germany must be embarrassed to be associated with this terrible product. email me if you have similar experiences, I am willing to share legal costs if needed: my email is: jhanlyfx@hotmail.com. |
