Strength:

I like the Bose radio, but the cd. changer has never worked. What a surprise.

Weakness:

Weaknesses? The whole car.

My grandmother purchased this car about two years ago, and it has been a pain in the a** since then. She has already put a new motor in it, numerous parts have been recalled, and she is not getting reimbursed for them since she had them replaced before they were recalled. The air bag has malfunctioned; the light stays on and a servicer told her she had to purchase a whole new air bag system for it. I hate this car and I think it is a joke to keep replacing things on it. They have poor resale value and they are junk. I will never own a GM car.

Strength:

The only strength that this car has is that it has a Cadillac symbol in front to attract the buyers.

Weakness:

Expensive engine repairs. Expensive tire wear!!!!!!!!

This car has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it. It has problems with heating. The water pump has replaced, along with the pulley. These items were all under recall. It has worn out (2) sets of Goodyear Eagle tires in 1 year. GM WILL NOT assist with the expensive engine repair work that it is in need of now. I know of three other people who are now dealing with the same problems with their Catera. GM knows of the engine problems with this "Car from Hell" and I feel they should reimburse everyone who purchased this piece of _____! Try to trade it in and one dealership told me that they did not want this car on their lot.

Strength:

The sound system, the acceleration, the looks, the computer, the engine, the seat warmers are a savior to us in Canada weather, and last but not least the chrome rims

Weakness:

The battery drains a little to fast and the price to fill up the tank cost a little more than I like but thats probly because I put Premium gass in it at 82.9 per litre.

THis car kicks. I love it. The only problem that I have with it is the radiator but that was paid for by cadillac. If you did not like it you are not ment for driving a caddy. It rides smooth and has a powerful engine. It has conftrable seats and everything is just perfect about it.

air conditioner (cooling system), parts,

We purchased a 1999 Catera, paid 16,999 on July 31,2002. It has been nothing but a nightmare from day one. Soon as we drove off the lot the Windshield cracked and it took almost 2 weeks to have it repaired because my insurance company felt as though the car dealer should have repaired it at no cost. The second week the cooling light and the check engine light started coming on. This car has been to the shop three times and the check engine light still comes on. They still can not seem to find the problem. I feel as though we were taken advantage of. Each time we contact them they tell us not to worry and just bring the car in again. What a big mistake purchaseing this car was. What bothers me the most is the dealers knows this is not a good car but still push to sell it. I fully intend to contact the Attorney General and to seek a full refund.

Weakness:

High repair cost, car Parts are hard to find, really ever damn thing.

I bought 97 Catera with only 35000 miles and it has been in the shop 3 times already. I have had the car for 4 months. The brakes had to replace twice, and they still make noise. The car pulls to one side, and an alignment will not fix the problem. I strongly don't recommend buying this car unless you have money to throw away. I will never buy another Cadillac again.

along with the usual problems with brakes, electrical, etc. how would you like to be within 5000 kilometers of the end of the warranty coverage for the timing belt that will break and cause between $3,000 and $12,000 damage. I called GM and they said that I should consider it as regular maintenance to change the timing belt (great public relations for a company that is sure the belt will break). I did get a great deal when I had to change the little motor for the air conditioning ($300 - GM wanted $2500). I changed the size of my tires and do not have a problem with wear or pulling to the right or left so far (58,000 km), the tires look like they might last to 100,000 km. (my factory tires lasted 38,000 km. - gm said "normal"

Buying a 1997 Cadillac Catera was the worst mistake I have ever made. I stongly discourage anyone from buying one. The car has been in the shop almost every month since I have owned it. Thankfully I took out an extended warranty when I bought it otherwise it would have been parked long ago. My problems include the timing belt/tensioner, water pump, coil pack, cooling fan, sunroof opens/closes on its own so I had to diconnect it a month after buying the car, oil leaks, oils sending unit leaks, problems with the doors locking me in/out of the car, the horn doesnt work, the heated drivers seat has a short, had to have the front sway bar replaced, tie rods, multiple alignments/new tires. The problems never end. It has now been in the shop six times for because the engine light comes on and the car cuts out and dies while going down the road, it will restart but it just dies again. They cant find the problem. If anyone has seeked legal action regarding the issues with the catera I would be interested in hearing the outcome. I am trying o get rid of the car but I owe too much and no one wants it.
