Opel Omega
Strength:
Good brakes, luxurious and comfortable interior, great seats and enough space for five people and their luggage! Fine automatic with good shift points, stiff chassis and an engine that never seems out of breath.
Weakness:
Would like more power, I only have the 2.5 V6 European spec engine. Also the standard Grundig radio is rather disappointing. This is a great car! Even though its called Opel Omega over here in Europe, it´s essentially the same car as the US Cadillac Catera. When I bought this car just over a year ago (its a 1995 model)it had been driven 75000km and even though I´ve put another 10000km on its odometer, it has never broken down or caused me any problems. Similar Products Used: Owned a Thunderbird V6 which was less powerful, had bad brakes, was always in the shop, and was much less reliable than the Omega. |

everything Has anyone out there thought about getting together and filing a law suit against GM. Since I wrote my last review my car had to be towed in dead and the timing chain broke and they had to replace all pistons, valves and timing chain to the tune of 4500. Thank God for extended warranty. The car now has 60000 miles on it. The dealer kept the car 9 days and we picked it up yesterday drove it 2 miles and the check engine light came on and the car started spitting and sputtering, we made it to a gas station and called the service dept, they sent us a driver to take us home, and a tow truck for the car. this means the car has now been on the road about 48 months and in the shop 28 times. GM says it is not their fault, because I did not buy it from the them. I advised its their fault because they made the car. I want them to buy back the car, and I'll buy a new one, but they want give me enough for my car. I think we all ought to drive the broken down pieces of junk to Detroit and leave them on Mr Richard Wagner's front porch, since he is the CEO of GM and let him live with them Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
I have had this car since last summer. It is fun to drive BUT Knowing everyone else that reviews this car is in the same driver's seat as I am . . . out in the cold
Weakness:
Not being able to communicate with the company engineer or other impartial engineers as to way this car is defective because of the stress built in design, that myself and others have been subject to sun roofs and back window blow outs. We need to communicate. My e-mail adresses are in my first review I recommed you alway have your warranty papers and card with you. The road service is first class. Although this is a second followup review I hope they will print it so we can find a safe solution to the problems before someone get hurt from flying glass or failure of circuit duplication like I mentioned that the circuitry that turns on the fan to cool the engine also is part of the audio and a/c system in the computerized functions of this vehicle. So if your radio and a/c will not come on you know your car is going to overheat if you are stopped in traffic. Similar Products Used: I drove my dad's GM car first Buick Special, 56; the La Saber 67 that I bought myself, 2 olds 98 and 2 4 dr sedan cadillacs and now I find that GM no longer wants to admit a defective design and my loyalty to the GM line that my family have all enjoyed. Wish we could compare notes |

Strength:
Excellent sound system of course, great handling, comfortable seating, great for road trips no road noise, but best of all it has a good looks, but most important a heavy frame, which I found to be handy when i was in a accident.
Weakness:
Poor take off power, but too I also have 97K miles on her. Not that many people are fimilar with the Catera, non Cadillac service shop are even scared to mess with it! I have had no problems with my Catera, only recently my water pump went out, and fog lights fuse burned. The engine has no problems, but the Transmission when it cold does not shift till it hit 4,000 on the RPM cage. Again very expensive to fix, please e-mail me at Cadcat97@aol.com if you have any questions, the dealer by the way also trys to scare me about the timing belt that it will snap with al those miles since it has not be replace? I would recommended this this want to be Cadi, but you must be high on maintance, if so she will last! Similar Products Used: 1995 Toyota Avalon, I still rate the catera higher. My toyota Transmission went out at 37K |

Strength:
Stereo System is great. It should be: it was replaced twice!
Weakness:
Two burned out headlights, steering problems, shifting problems, radio not working (replaced twice), 100 miles after warranty ran out, $1300.00 repair job on ignition and transmission, worn tires, no space in glove compartment (can't even put gloves in there), middle consule is useless, brakes are shot, TC and ABS lights come on for no reason, and now my coolant is leaking out everytime I fill it. This car runs nice when it's not in the shop. Hey!!! That's the problem: it's always in the shop. I'll never, ever, ever, ever buy another Cadillac!!! I wish I would have read the reviews from all of you before I made this financial miscue; but all is not lost if we follow up on banding together to put the pressure on GM to acknowledge that this car is a certified Lemon. I've had it 8 months and I've been to the shop about 10 times. I'm calling my GM rep tomorrow and I'm going to demand that I get another car (I sure as heck don't want another Catera). I know he/she will not do anything, but I'm determined to keep pushing until I'm at least acknowledged. Similar Products Used: Got rid of a celica that ran like a top |

Cadillac Catera
Strength:
I love the audio system, soft leather seats, electrochromatic rear view mirrors, one touch up and down windows, sunroof, very quiet interior, no sqeaks or vibrations, nice use of wood trim, steering wheel controls, nice wheels, I really like this car and I am also very happy my car is covered with a bumper to bumper warranty with no deductiable for the next 4 years. The car also is very safe and comfortable, solid handling. HEY PLUS ITS A CADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weakness:
I went through a set of tires at 25 thousand miles but were replaced for free at the dealership without a problem. The glovebox is kinda useless, and the cupholders could use a redesign. Hi I have a 1997 Cadillac Catera it has 25,000 miles. I bought it 4 months ago and it has been a dream runs perfect. and its a CADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: I used to drive a lincoln Continental a 1996. The lincoln was a softer riding car but the handling doesnt come close to the caddy. Also the lincoln had more toys in it cause it was 42 grand when it was new. Another car I looked at was 2000 V70 GLT SE Volvo T5 That car was nice and smooth but the boxy styling didnt do much for me. and the steering wheel center was like a dark gray and the wheel it self was a light tan kinda ugly. I think the caddy is much more stylish and nicer looking inside. thats my .02 ok later people. |

Strength:
Solid, quiet ride
Weakness:
Appetite for tire rotation If you get a two-year-old Catera at a decent price, you won't be disappointed. I went from a new Civic bought in 1997 (at frighteningly close to the same price) and the difference is like night and day. The Cadillac is faster (but not an Indy car), more solid, and a lot more durable (Detroit has tons of potholes in the roads and people who can't park their SUVs without bashing your car. The Catera stands up to both of these a lot better than my previous cars did). It's a nice, subtle, solidly-built car for people who don't need to be flashy. Similar Products Used: More solid than my Audi 4000. |

communication with Cadillac Headquarters ((what a joke!!!!!!!!)) BIG mistake! bought the car on October 3,2000. has been in the shop for numerous things. lots of computer problems, coils, gaskets, modules, spark plugs.a/c doesnt work ,if you idle(waiting for the light to turn green!).headlight assembly -terrible trying to drive at night! car likes to go to the right-always. tire stems splitting -replace them at least 2 times a month or have flat tires.Brakes have been checked out but cont. to squeak!!i have had 4 ignition coils put on the car in 5.5 weeks.
