Strength:

Good looking car, she had me fooled. Comfortable and nice to drive, until you see the flames.

Weakness:

You name it. Take a picture now, because it may be the last time you see her.

Beauty and the Beast! This old fella used to live a block from me and I would see him driving this car from time to time. He kept it immaculate. It was a beautiful pearl white with tan leather and chrome wheels. So, when I saw it for sale in his driveway, I was hooked. Only had 38,000mi on it and it was stunning to look at. The old guy didn't seem too sad when I handed him the check and backed his "beloved" car out of his driveway, though.

Anyway, away I went, thinking I had stolen this long-legged beauty from him. Then, the beast showed up.

Three days later, my first 200 mile drive, she overheats. No warning, nothing. Up a 6% grade, 70deg F day. Sat and waited til cool, checked the coolant, belts and hoses; all fine. Got going again, and the same thing happens 10 minutes later, so, concerned about cracking the block, I had her towed to the nearest dealer (whoops), and like some of the other reviewers, they chalked up a $2,800 repair bill after replacing damned near everything (head gasket was the problem). After that spanking, I got her back, still pretty, still tempting me to drive her. Found out she was a heavy drinker, so I bought a gallon of oil to keep her thirst in check. Took her to work for the first time and everyone wowed and wooed at how pretty she was. One of my smaller co-workers sat in it and adjusted the driver seat all the way forward. Judging by the smoke, that's when the electric motor blew. I had to drive it home (im 6ft tall) jammed up against the steering wheel.

Got that problem fixed. Decided to head north to do some fishing. Plenty of trunk space. Got about 16 mi from home when thick, toxic smoke blew into the cabin. Got pulled over just in time to see the flames coming up from the engine compartment. Saved my wallet and some gear. Everything else melted; a total loss. Too much damage to figure out what happened. The beast was dead. Insurance check for $6,700 meant I was out $1800, plus the repairs $3150, for a total loss of $4,950 plus one melted cell phone and Raybans in just six weeks/2100 miles.

Strength:

Good engine and suspention. Fairly decent gas mileage until you turn the A/C on.

Weakness:

Had to replace 2 or 4 window regulators. Burns oil quite frequently.

I love this car. It has decent power and the car rides as if you're cruising on clouds.

Looks, 0-60 and 60-100 time especially, comfort, surprisingly good gas mileage (until you turn on A/C - that drops it from 23 mpg avg to 18 mpg average) can you tell I drive fast?

Weakness:

Oil consumption, window regulators, leather needs improvement, brakes wear out too quickly.

It was love at first sight, I saw the black on black DeVille, only 5 years old at the time, with 68k miles, black tints all-round, lowered with CTS rims - I had to have it. Since I got this car, it's now up to 91k miles in just over a year. BTW, I am a young entrepreneur, I must say it gets a lot of interesting looks - especially while racing a 2001 Continental with a little punk kid driving down the Interstate at well over 105 MPH (108 is its limit). It is unbeatable! However...I have the similar problem with burning a quart of oil every 500 miles, the window regulators snap and the windows fall - so far 2/4 have done this, one becaue I lost my temper and slammed the door. Just put on new ceramic brakes that squeak, my drivers side mirror seems to be decaying, where the mirror and glass are separating, burns oil when you punch it, and you can leave a James Bond smoke cloud sometimes for your nemisis. I have had it stall a few times at red lights lately - but it starts back up, that's relatively embarassing. GM leather seems to wear out relatively quickly. I have spent about $1,000 in maintenance costs so far, and I am planning on keeping it until the wheels fall off. I was tempted with this 0% apr for 72 months to step up into something with a warranty - but I'll hope my Caddy will stay good to me. Still love the power and comfort.

((KNOCK ON WOOD)) - Nothing else will break for a few thousand miles (like 20-80k preferably!).

style street cred room class

Weakness:

no power drinks gas

It was always my dream to own an old school cadillac. this example was the perfect one. 52000 miles and totally rust free, which in michigan is saying something. the 4100 is a bit of a dog, and it succs down gas like its going out of style. this car has class for days and days, and enough street cred that anyone will get out of your way, not that they need to, cuzz its slow as hell. all this car needs to turn someone into a real playa is a set of rims and a nice system, both of which she got soon after purchase. the interior of this car is more comfortable than my living room, with those full length leather bench seats front and rear, plus sooo much legroom, and a 2 door. basically, anyone who wants a stylish car, buy this one without being afraid

Strength:

Very comfortable ride, great gas mileage for a car this size (17/27 MPG), whisper-quiet cruising, very good fit/finish (the car's interior STILL smells like leather!), plenty of passing power above 50MPH, seats feel like XL-sized leather chairs (with a very soft, high quality leather, not hard and uncomfortable) and the gorgeous styling.... Far classier than any Lincoln product.

Weakness:

The engine LOVES to eat oil. Thank goodness the Information Center warns you when the car is about 2 quarts low or several people would burn the motors up! Another thing is when your brake pads start to wear down, there isn't a wear indicator on the pads, (giving off the high-pitched squeaking sound you've heard on other cars) and the only idea you'll have to warn about worn pads is a very intense shaking when braking.

I bought this car when originally looking at the SLS/STS models and so far I am very glad I did. I got the taupe interior with the white diamond color and chrome wheels-- I get complements on the caddy wherever I go. The interior is very handsome with easy-to-use controls. Overall, I love this car.

Strength:

the car is absolutely beautiful!!!! and when it runs it runs like a mofo. i averaged anywhere from 22 to 35 miles to a gallon anywhere i went. this car would be the perfect car if it didnt turn to crap when it got older.

Weakness:

the north star is a good engine when its new but not when you get some miles on it. i can go on and on and on and on and on and on and on............................................................... but i wont!

this is one of the most beautiful cars i have ever seen but it is also one of the most annoying cars too. i bought this car about 10 months ago and have had problem after problem with it. the second month i had this car it started over heating, so like a crazy person i went out and started replacing everything on the cooling system which cost me a little over $1700,didnt fix it of course. when i first got it from thompsons i had to replace the spark plugs which cost me about $200. the speakers like to go out but when they are working they are awsome. the emblems like to fall off of the car for some reason. had to have the starter worked on which was about $200 also, had to put new tires on the front because the front end when out of line which was about$90 dollars a tire. got front end balanced which was $70 dollars. the front pass. strut has went out which was another $200. any time there is more than one hundred pounds in the back of the car it likes to sit close to the ground which rubs the exhaust. i was told that the car has a cracked head or a blown head gasket so i was gonna whip out over $3000 to get it fixed then i talked to someone at a cadillac dealership and he said that if you open the engine on that car to replace the head gasket or something like that it will never run right again, he said its like opening pandors box, everything just gonna go to crap. so i didnt, instead i waited till had money to put a new "er" engine in it and while i was saving my money it blew up!!!! so now i am without a car and have an ungodly amount left to pay on it. SO TO SAY THE LEAST I LOVE THE CAR BUT I HATE IT!!!!!!! if that makes any sense to ya. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BUYING THIS CAR IM TELLING YOUR DO NOT BUY IT THIS CAR IS NOT WORTH A CRAP WHEN IT GETS OVER 100K MILES. but if you want a good lookin car and have a big truck to pull you around town with get it!!!YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!! HA HA HA HA!!

Strength:

Comfortable luxury. Lots of power. Good looking (I've got the carraige top edition with gold package and Vogue tires-looks sweet!) Lots of passenger space. Has yet to fail mechanically or otherwise leave me stranded. I live at the 5500ft elevation and it doesn't negatively affect performance. Gets an amazing 26mpg at 72mph on the freeway. Plenty of trunk space. 12-disc changer works great. Sound system is one of the best I've heard. You can find one for a fraction of what the first owner paid...I wouldn't buy one new...they depreciate too fast.

Weakness:

Gets a disappointing 15mpg in city driving. Runs a little hot when climbing lengthy grades. Burns one quart of oil every 800-1000 miles. I occasionally notice a cloud of blue smoke when I punch it; I've changed from 30 weight oil to 40 weight to see if that helps with the oil consumption/smoke problem. Outside air temp gauge decided one day that it was 140 degrees outside and hasn't dropped since. Consequently, I have to run my climate control at an indicated 85 degrees to get the heater to perform. Vogue tires are very expensive at the dealer- check out E-Bay; much cheaper. Reliability issue takes some of the fun out of driving it.

I found this website a month after I bought this car. I've been sweating every mile since then. Lots of negative reviews have me very concerned. I was going to review it then, but I decided to wait til I'd driven it for six months. I've put just over 10k miles on it in that time. Done lots of trips through L.A. and it has got me home every time. I'm still thinking about selling it, though. Riding on a 4-wheeled leather couch is great until it craps out on an eight lane freeway with no shoulders. Should I trust it? My intuition says 'No!'.

Good looks, Ride, Style plus that good ole' USA logo.

Weakness:

Shoddy design. The gm boys tried to get too fancy by trying to power these cars up to kill Beamers and forgot all about the fact they had an LT-1 Corvette motor that was tried and true (that I would have bet would have been able to be mounted in these cars)

i bought this monster after owning a few (4) other various 4.9 caddys. Yes, I just had to have a 4.6 N* or so I thought. The checked out okay. Even though it had the typical oil leaks. But it did NOT RUN HOT then! Just a few weeks later and wallah, it is that magic time to spend $4500 now to get it road worthy. Wow, what a winner. See, the caddy started to run hot. It went into self protect mode and shut down on the roadside. So, we waited and went for waterand after an hour and gallon of H2O she drove for another 15 minutes. So, of to the N* experts...First, a thermostat, then a water pump, water pump belt and new housing. And guess what in 15 minutes she ran hot once again. So, now here we are with a $3k car needing $5k work and it only has 118k certified miles! After checking all the forums for 2 evenings I found I am not alone. This is quite common these cars once they get around 100k plus miles. Be prepared to junk it as you seem to have about a 50/50 shot of this happening to you. By the way...good luck finding a mechanic who will touch a northstar. MY LAST 94 SEDAN DEVILLE WITH A 4.9 ENGINE HAD 224,800 ON IT WHEN I SOLD IT FOR $3000. IT WAS A BEAUTY , DROVE SUPER, NEVER LEAKED A DROP OF ANYTHING AND NEVER EVER RAN HOT!!! So, my advice is you can get a Seville (92), Deville(93-96), Eldorado (92) all with the newer body styles and fine ride but none of the worries of ther dreaded northstar! And hey, if you ever did need to buy used 4.9 motor, the cost is around $500 versus $2000 for a used northstar.

Nice ride and powerful. Not a strong as my Vette, but for a luxury car, no other brand really compeats with the Northstar. Super value even when buying new. The 4T80-E transmission is smooth and durable. Excellent trunk space and comfort. Have to say it was a real bargin and hope to get another 100K out of it before I give it away. No SES lights and all systems are working as designed.

Weakness:

Hard to work on and has a lot of gizmos that will go bad occasionally.

Car had some problems when I bought it. All minor. Used Engine restore and fuel system cleaner and all problems went away. Northstar engine burns no oil with 142K miles. A/C was broken, but was easily fixed by resetting the ECM and adding R-134a.

always replacing expensive parts alot of parts

If I knew then what I know now, I diffently would not have bought this car o.k where should I start. I have replaced the starter, the ac compressor twice (and getting ready to do it again),the water pump, a transmission line that developed a hole ,distributer coil, ooohh yeah The heater coil 3 times , a tri-fitting that sits towards the back of the motor twice lets talk about problems that this car has. The security that disingages the starter comes on whenever it wants to somtimes leaves me stranded because I can't start it up to get any place. It has a short somewhwere in the collar that makes it smoke whenever I use the emergency blinker lights, and the switch that changes the direction of air flow out of the vent is broken
