Strength:
got everything that a luxury car should have, but means more than a luxury car.
Weakness:
No enough leg room at the back
A car means something more than a car with 4 wheels. it expresses its owner's taste, value-orientation and even social class and status. Jaguar S-type is so eye-catching and British-feel, luxurious and elegant, but can reach 100km within 7.6 seconds, and it gives the owner everything he/she pursues. having a Jaguar S-type, what do u still need? nothing! cos u have got everything. why do u still comparing BMW530 or Audi A6 or M-Benz E280? just go for Jaguar!! odd transmission I love my 2000 3.0 S-Type. I bought it with 44,000 miles. This is a terrific car. It handles flawlessly. It's very comforable, even on long trips. The performance is really good. Speed builds effortlessly. Interior and exterior quality are good. Not flawless but good. The ash tray cover broke and one of the lights at the bottom of the door fell out. This car turns heads. It could be the hansome guy driving that turns heads... naw, I think it's the car. If you're approaching middle age and have always wanted a distinctive performance car at a good price, look at a previously owned S Type. Similar Products Used: I test drove BMWs and a Lexus. |

Gear shift I have had my 2000 S-Type Jaguar for a week now. It was reasonably high mileage (105,000 km), but in good condition. No major problems so far. The J-gate gear shift seems a bit loose changing into drive, I have to be careful that it isn't still in reverse! The rear passenger window squeaked for a while after I washed the car. I also found that the alloy window trim was raised slightly at the rear of the window. I suspect that it has been damaged at some stage in the past, but it is strange that this should only become apparent now. All in all I am very pleased with the car. Very distinctive, a prestigous vehicle. |

Dealer "service" - or lack thereof - ZF Gearbox Lurching, Air con lockouts, Xenon auto-leveller faults, premature brake wear (after 13,000 miles), 4 tyres needed after 18,000 miles. Worth 37% of initial purchase price after 2.5 years http://www.theLurch.com I have created a website to highlight some of the faults that can occur with the 2003 Jaguar S-Type and the treatment that some have experienced from their Dealers and Jaguar with trying to get them rectified. If you are thinking of buying a 2003 Jaguar S-Type this is essential reading first. Not every S-Type has these faults but it is best to be informed on the pitfalls that ARE out there. Some of the topics covered - with Animations, Movies, JPEGs, TSBs and PDFs are: S-Type - Lurching on the ZF Gearbox S-Type - Burned out rear brakes pads (premature brake pad wear) S-Type - Creaking / groaning front brakes / suspension S-Type - Air con Lockout / Nav screen glitches S-Type - Squeaking steering wheel S-Type - Faulty Xenon Headlight adjuster S-Type - List of relavent Jaguar TSBs In addition I have included the independent Engineer's Reports from the respected motoring organisations of the AA (Automobile Association, United Kingdom since 1905) and the TCS (Travel Club Switzerland since 1896) on my Jaguar S-Type. I have also included as many comments from other Jaguar S-Type owners (freely available on the internet) that also discuss these problems. I welcome any feedback, crits or suggestions. Jaguar S-Type V8
Strength:
Sophisticated design both inside and out (2003 interior update). Loads of thick leather and beautiful real wood inside. Wonderful power with the V8, great handling. A plush, yet sporty feel to the car. The best combination of luxury and sportiness.
Weakness:
Initially, the 6 speed transmission shifted hard, but this was fixed by a software upgrade (recall) by Jaguar. Now it's silky smooth and responsive. It's a stunningly beautiful car, that outclasses all rivals. A timeless elegant design that is as pleasurable to drive as it is to look at. Similar Products Used: Mercedes E300 |

Strength:
Engine is a delight and interior styling is beautiful. Most confortable seat of any car the wife and I sat in.
Weakness:
Do not hold their value relative to BMW and Mercedes Despite the fact the earlier models had many problems a 4 time Jag owner recommended the 2003 S-Type. I had read that 2003 was a major rework on the S series and so far I am very happy. The 4.2 V8 is strong and the styling sticks out a little in a town full of Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. |

Looks! But looks aren't everything!!! I have never experienced anything like this with a car! I have a problem with the cylinders misfiring and the dealer keeps replacing the coils and sparkplugs to no avail! They don't seem to be able to properly diagnose or fix the trouble. It is now at the dealer for the 3rd time in 4 weeks. They have had the car more than I have in the last month. I would love nothing more than to just throw the keys at them and tell them to just keep the car at this point! Of course, that is not an option so at this point I'm driving a loaner (as usual) and have no faith in their ability to fix the problem. Also, two window motors have already been replaced, I was told it was a very common problem but no recall? |
