Jaguar S-Type Luxury

Jaguar S-Type Luxury

DESCRIPTION

(1998 - 2008) The Jaguar S-Type is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sedan, or luxury sports sedan.
<
The name was a revival of a previous Jaguar model, the S-Type introduced in 1963, while the bodywork appeared to have been inspired by the Jaguar Mark 2 of the same period. The supercharged 390-horsepower S-Type R was added for 2003. The S-Type is in its final model year for 2008 before the expected arrival of the all-new 2009 XF in March 2008.

Strength:

Looks, powerful engine, sophisticated accessories

Weakness:

The transmission has been a source of constant frustration. When driving in stop and go traffic, it has a problem knowing when to shift and often jerks into gear. Also, when stopping, it doesn't want to disengage and shifts to lower gears with the greatest of effort. The dash display also had to be replaced on my car after I had owned it about a month. Then the inside lights refused to go out. I've had problems with the fuel data computer going out on several occassions -- leaving me without any idea how much fuel I have.

I bought this car because I had always loved the look of the front end. The car handles wonderfully and the interior is well-appointed, though you have to be a small person to fit in the back seat.

Strength:

Eye catching styling, would be worth the money spent if I can get transmission fixed

Weakness:

transmission shifting, can't drive with windows even partially opened on higway as the car will vibrate, remote trunk release sticks, car mat hook holders keep breaking,

Experiencing transmission problem. When I come to an almost complete stop and begin to accelerate the transmission sometimes bangs into gear, sometime extremely hard.Am on my 4th trip to the dealer. Lemon law time?? Otherwise a great vehicle to drive and show off.

Strength:

The looks! luxury, and how special and comfortable I feel when I drive it. It certainly is a unique car... too bad it doesn't have the quality of less luxurious cars... but I love it!

Weakness:

I would say it is badly engineered. I will probably trade it in for a new one before warranty runs out.

After a year of owning it, a window broke down, the stick shift broke, and had to be replaced. Now two years into it the AC systems went crazy. Some times it blows hot when on AC, some times too cold. Just this month it has gone back to the dealer four times (one each week) because they can't seem to solve the problem. I have to take it back again on Monday, and hope they finally solve it. You can't imagine how horrible it is to have your AC blow hot air at 100 F during a hot Texas afternoon. The dealers are courteous though... but I'm getting tired of the trips to the shop and the inconvenience.

Strength:

Only the looks!

Weakness:

Engine, door memories and glass (they don't close properly), brakes, customer services you get at all Jaguars including Mexico where you are supposed to get service too.

While driving my JAGUAR on a busy highway, the vehicle completely BROKE DOWN. While attempting to stir the car to the side, without proper power steering, the following error was displayed on the dashboard: Engine Fault, Park Brake Fault, DSC no available Now my JAGUAR is on its 6th visit to the JAGUAR.

Strength:

Great handling Fantastic pick up Beautifully luxurious styling - I think the wood in this car looks much richer than the Lexus or the Mercedes, although the Lexus gives a somewhat smoother ride, and I love their two-seater!

Weakness:

A little noisy on initial acceleration.

This is my second Jaguar. My first was the 2000 S-Type. The 2000 was a horrible vehicle. It vibrated at any speed over 40 MPH and the windows and other electrical controls were constantly in need of repair. It was in the shop ALL the time (at least once every month) and the dealership gave me a Taurus to drive, not great when you're making payments on a Jag. I must say, I went for the 2003 because of the low interest rates and because I heard there were so many improvements made. I must agree. The 2003 is a dream with improved leather, no vibration, no electrical problems, a slightly smoother and more elegant line! I am thrilled with my 2003. If you bought an earlier model and were dissatisfied, don't count Jaguar out yet...they have made significant improvements to this car. It is smooth, smooth, smooooth!

Model Reviewed: Jaguar S-Type 3.0

Strength:

Exterior appearance

Weakness:

Transmission, Window regulators, lack of cup holders in rear, lack of room in rear, lack of space in trunk

I have not been happy with the vehicle at all. During the time that my wife and I have had it, we have been in the shop constantly with window (regulator) problems, fuel injection problems, and most recently transmission problems. The car is presently not shifting into fifth gear, and noone can figure out what the "Gearbox Fault" code is all about that appears periodically. The dealership was only able to give me the "YOu need a new transmission. That will be $4200" line (the car has 87000+ miles on it, and the extended warranty is gone). I took it to a transmission shop, and they rebuilt the tranny and nothing happened. I got the same result. Ironically, as I was picking the car up from this shop, someone was bringing in a 4.0 with the same problem. What are the chances of that considering the size of Norman,OK (Pop. 90000) with so few S-Types in town. I have called Jaguar, and I can't get any answers on whether there are recalls. Thus, I am at my wits end as to what to do, but I don't think I will ever purchase another Jag after this one!!!
