Strength:

In other reviews I read on this site, many complained about rear leg room. If that is a concern, look for a '96 or newer VDP or a XJ6L. The 4 or 5 extra inches makes a big difference. Feels like a limo for rear seat passengers. The transmission offers a normal and Sport modes which changes the shift points. It can really move for such a heavy car. The seat comfort and overall ride quality is cloud-like without feeling detached from the road. The factory ALpine sound system is very impressive. You get extra interior wood with the VDP model, including a wood & leather steering wheel that looks very contemporary (and current with M-B, Lexus and Infiniti) and the folding picnic tables (as if I'm going to let some kid eat a Happy Meal back there). Another factor for prospective buyers to consider is the fact that despite a slight redesign for 2004-2004, the overall style/architecture of the car is not going to change. So you can have a '95 or '96 model that will be difficult for a bystander to distinguish from a 2004 or 2005 year model!

Weakness:

Exterior paint quality is OK but not of the quality of some other makes. The 20-spoke alloy wheels are a pain to clean.

After having owned '81 XJ6 in the mid-1980s, I vowed to get another someday in the future. having been impressed with the ride quality and style. In the 3 years I had it, I never had to call a tow truck &the newer Mercury Sable I replaced it with was more expensive to own over the long run. The future arrived a couple of months ago when I found the '96 VDP at a nearby car lot. For the $13.5K I paid, what other car can offer the luxury and head-turning appeal for that kind of money? The dealer offered a 36 month bumper-to-bumper warranty for $1300 (at a mechanic or shop at my choice) that helped seal the deal.

Strength:

Outstanding classic looks with the XJR low profile tires and suspension. Lots of power; very few other cars can compete on the open road. Very quiet interior, satisfying exhaust note. Responsive, firm, luxurious ride. Great seats. A used car - Best Buy.

Weakness:

Expensive parts and service. Glove fit interior is not for everyone.

Wonderful used luxury car buy! The Supercharged XJR6 engine has to be tried to be believed... this kitty can really growl. Sporty, but luxurious ride; great road handling and driver feedback. Lots of compliments on the classic and classy looks of this automobile; a real head turner. Right at home in both city and highway driving. A real joy to own and drive.

Strength:

Power (for the $$$) good I6 engine delivers smooth(ish) power. Responsive and light steering (perfect in multi storey car parks and around town). Value, due to the rock bottom market prices. Music, the system that comes as standard sounds better than many of the systems I've head people pay hundreds of $ for. Feels laid back, and relaxed which is perfect for long drives.

Weakness:

Fuel (shock horror...~22.3mpg combined, measured), Insurance (ha, it's not cheap enough, but when will it be), Cornering (recommended tyres squeal wobble and groan in all but the slowest corners) is ugly when traction finally lets go. Dealers, not impressed, after all they are providing you with a service, not vice versa. Can't speak to the mechs, or even see whats going on....just a bill.

Bloody moaners.... I bought this vehicle against the advice of my nearest and dearest, "It'll cost a fortune to run" "what's it like on fuel" "why don't you get something practical". The usual, why get something practical when you there's a perfectly good addage out there; "If you wanna buy a car buy a Jag, it's got a nice back seat for a ..... Anyway, taking this in mind (well the first bit at any rate), I bought a fairly old used Jaguar (127k mls), now it has provided me with 8 months a calm, uniterrupted driving pleasure. Needs basic checks (maintenance free cars; HA!), once a fortnight and it runs a treat. Nice power (0-60 ~8s, 0-100 ~20s) from a (slightly rough) auto trans, and perfect cruising at 50 through to 90mph. Corners like a blacmange though, like most vehicles of it's weight (2.3tns). However, it must be said, take it into a Jag dealer, and waits for you wallet to scream, VFM is an alien concept. If anything serious goes wrong, there would be trouble ($$$). But whilst the sky is blue, these old vehicles provide serious serious Value. Leather, Air Con, Cruise, 4 point Jag music, Electric everything and 200BHP for around $3k.......what else?

Strength:

Every aspect of this machine is a strength.

Weakness:

The emergency brake is placed in an awkward position. On long trips, I like to rest my right leg against the middle console. Unfortunately, the brake handle dosen't allow me the extra few inches to widen my relaxing leg. No biggie!

You really have to drive this rocket to experience the rush it provides a person. If you have to rob a bank to own one, start planning your heist now. This is the sweetest ride I have ever enjoyed. I thought people were looking at the beautiful woman in the passenger seat, while all along they were gawking at the elegance of the Coventry Cat.

Strength:

Exterior styling, interior styling, reliable (so far)

Weakness:

Navigation system is not extremely helpful and the screen is small.

The XJ series from Jaguar is really something. I decided to take a test drive in a Jaguar XJ8 and I was very pleased with its performance. The sales representative told me about the XJR 100 and it sounded excellent. Two weeks later the car arrived and I took it off the lot. The car has had no problems and looks great. Every time I pull it out of the garage I get compliment after compliment. Jaguar has finally turned around and has made a great car.

Strength:

POWER and lots of it. No other car on the road can match a Jaguar interior, connolley leather seating all around.

Weakness:

Middle of the road sound system. Very poor gas mileage ( 13.5MPG mixed) on par with many mega SUVs. 8 cyl is much better.

Nearing the end of my 3rd year with the V12 version of the XJ series. The words "I love this car" are wholly inadequate for describing my feelings toward the XJ12 and Jaguars in general. While the car is not trouble free, It tends to leak various colored fluids from time to time and the 12 cylinder engine requires more maintenance than the 6 or 8 cylinder versions, the car is the most satisfying automobile I have ever owned. In addition a poor reputation from the 1980s means Jaguars of today have a very low resale value. Bad for the original owner but excellent for the seond hand buyer. BUY A USED JAG! There is not a better deal in the used luxury market. Its nearing 10 years old but I get looks and comments every time I take her out. The car has never broken down, never failed to start, never skipped a beat, just small annoyances like flaky CD changer, oil drips, and the like.

Luxury, ride and power. Superb finish.

Weakness:

Small trunk. Tight interior. Try to get out from the car when keys are in ignition and seats are in a driving position.

One of the greatest cars on the road. I own my Jaguar for almoust 6 years (April 1996 with 14,000 miles) and I never feel a need to replaced with Mercedes or BMW. Car has 74000 miles and all original parts except for tires and filters. So far only regular maintenance done by dealer.

Strength:

Reliability, ergonomics, ride, transmission, engine, Connolly leather, aesthetics both interior and exterior are on par or better than vehicles costing twice as much.

Weakness:

More room needed in the back seat. More trunk space needed. Slight delay experienced in acceleration from a dead stop, or when passing at higher speeds - most likely related to traction control being over-sensitive.

The finest automobile I have ever owned. Something just a little different than everyone and their brother with a Benz or BMW. Without question the best combination of performance, luxury and ride that I have experienced.

Strength:

Great ride. Handles beautifully.

Weakness:

Air conditioning being number one for passengers! Also brakes constantly have black powder residue. I was told this is normal and all cars have that? Not the Lexus or Mercedes

I love the ride of this car, but it has some serious problems with noise and has virtually no ac for back passengers even if you fully close the front ac vents. This dealer service person said that the ac vents in the back where for decoration only! Also asked if there were any other cars out their that had good ac for it''s passenger! Hello(Mercedes, Lexus, BMW etc.) Houston dealer treats customers below standard. This is a driver''s car, and customers should not have to lease their car from a Leasing company when car is in the shop. Moral to this story, if you have a family or you will be riding with customers in the back seat, do not buy this car. If you are a driver, buy a sporty 2 seat version and have fun!
