Don't buy this car if you are not over 40 or a taxi driver. This car just makes you old. I am 28 and now I regret.

Strength:

Great Traction control, good MPG's, powerful engine, Large trunk, comfortable, good audio system, and styling

Weakness:

Trunk is smaller than the 1990 TC, you could only fit 5 bodies in the trunk instead of 7. People think that you are a gangster in it.

Former owner of a light blue 1990 TC. The 1998 Town car has a good ride, and is faster than the 90-97. The interior has better fake wood trim, and I love the seats. The seats in the 90 were better, but these are still great. The engine is powerful and the traction control lets you take off fast in the rain.

Not as many options as other cars in that category

This is my third Town Car, and the best I've had. In three years I've driven it 26,000 miles. The fuel pump was replaced at 15,000 miles (under warranty). The ride, handling and styling of this car are excellent. It handles better in the snow than many front wheel drive vehicles, and I've never gotten stuck in it.

I even traded my 1985 Chevy Cavelier Station wagon which I had roughly $375 dollars in since I bought it, so $375 is what I paid but its worh at least $1,000. The Lincon is still as smooth riding as when new, it has decent power considering it has only 150HP but the 270 lb. ft. of torque make up the difference. The car is in decent shape, and starts without any problems and goes as soon as you put it in drive. I am uncertain of the actual mileage since the speedometer cable broke about 2 years ago according to the prior owner, but it was at 154,000 at that point so I`d guess ot close to 180,000 by now, and considering all the miles the engine is very quiet and runs smoothly.

Totally everything

Weakness:

Boring paint color selection
Put 19 or 20 inch tires & wheels on them
Put back the illumination of the rear seat ashtrays.

Fantastic car. 3 years and not a single flaw, no warrantee has been used. Love the ultra smooth ride, the improved suspension (Watts) and the luxury features, such as driver programmable delay headlights, power close from fully opened posistion trunk lid, combo cassette & single slot in dash CD and 6 Disc CD auto changer in trunk, driver & passengerpower lumbar seat cushions & back rests, power Moonroof and exit doorway enlarger seat with dual memories and the errie super quiet squeek-free interior. I've had 2 prior Lincolns and one Caddy Fleetwood. THIS car is a footbal field in length beyond those 3 cars.

Great Car. Have owned it for 1 1/2 years and have only had to replace the driver window motor. Had 96,000 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 113,000. Runs excellent and rides great. Only negative is that the lower left quarter panel has rusted. Seems to be a problem with the '89s.

its like a land yacht, beautiful & very roomy interior, good handling despite its big size, & HUGE trunk!

Weakness:

would like to have a little more power. (only 200hp) its main competitor the deville has I think 275hp...

all I can say is WOW! a true luxury car, inside & out! everything is made very solid on this car. very quiet and luxury smooth. no cheap plastic parts inside like previous cars I've owned. I bought the car w/ 90,000k and it now has 118,000k and have had no problems whatsoever! TO SAY I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THIS CAR IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

Strength:

Dependability, Ultra high luxury appointments, smoooothness, very quiet, safety. Paint is outstanding for its age.

Weakness:

Plastic manifold that can be easily corrected

The best kept secret in used car values. This car was $40,000 when new and one in excellent condition can be had for about $9000.00 or less nowadays. I brought it in from Fla with 54,606 miles. In the year and 7 months that I've had this car, I've experienced no problems whatsoever. The car is smooth, powerful and very well appointed. Mine came with sunroof, High powered JBL system, 10 disc changer, fact phone, ABS, traction control and ride control. They say the ride doesn't suffer much with ride control and I agree. On the freeway this car is a dreem to drive. It is quiet and absorbs all road bumps and imperfections with total ease. Everywhere your body touches is met with soft cushy materials, even your elbows. The seats are among the most comfortable seats of any car I have ever used. I have driven this car on 1000 mile trips and to my surprise have felt very relaxed and refreshed at the end of those trips, that alone is worth buying this car for. As far as fuel mileage goes, since it does have a digital readout, the best I have seen on the freeway is a constant 26, however in mixed driving with stop and go I've had a realistic 17 mpg. The trunk is enormous probably the largest trunk you will ever see. I understand that the newer models, 98 to present, do not have this large of a trunk. The 4.6 liter V8 in this car together with its transmission is absolutely bulletproof. Ford did its homework here. In fact, besides its F series I think this where Ford spent most of their school time. That was the good and now for the bad. This particular car does have one weak spot and that is its plastic manifold. I didn't wait for mine to break before having it replaced. I bought an updated version directly from Lincoln. The new manifolds have been reinforced with aluminum and are really quite dependable $400.00 plus installation at an independant for a total of $600.00. This has made my car what I consider to be an outstanding and very dependable vehicle suitable for everyday use as well as long distance cruising. Truly nothing beats the value here. If you do yor homework you will find many excellent examples with over 200,000 miles still running as new.

Model Reviewed: Town Car Signature Series Touring Sedan

Strength:

Styling Steering response Comfort Great seats Paint quality

Weakness:

Wee bit smaller trunk than 1997 and earlier TC.

This is my second used Town Car. The Touring Sedan package really stiffens up the steering through the corners yet doesn't impact ride comfort. In addition the 3.55 rear-end improves launch. Both cars have excellent paint quality for used vehicles. I suspect the Town Cars get better paint jobs than lesser vehicles. A very nice combination of luxury and performance.

Strength:

everything exept the weaknesses listed.

Weakness:

needs more power transmission needed updating

I have had this car for almost 2 yrs now and it is the best car I have ever owned. I take offense to some of the reviews saying this is only a senior citizens car. I am now 21 and couldn't be happier. It has good power, great gas mileage for it's size, and plenty of room. Some people think they are just slow and pokey but I have personally raced an early 90's Mustang GT, several honduh civics, and a few others and have beaten all but one and it was a warmed over Lincoln. They handle well for the comfort level and are wonderful on long trips. It handles much better in the snow than any of the FWD cars I have driven and rides a million times smoother too. The only problem i have had is the older transmission internals need to be updated with the 98 and up parts. They made them stronger after 98. I had to replace the transmission at 145k and now have 170k on it and it still runs like brand new. When I first bought it all my friends made fun of me for it but now several of them are looking at Towncars to replace their econoboxes they are now driving. As for gas mileage, I average 21 in the city and have seen on numerous occasions 33mpg on long trips running anywhere from 60 to 80 mph. My girlfriend has an 03 Toyota Carolla and it only gets around 30 on the interstate.
