Strength:

*Great power for a car pushing two tons. *Well thought out style. *Price range for this package fits the bill.

Weakness:

Tires, Tires, Tires. *Small annoyances that typically are taken care of on your routine maintenance (I've broken two cup holders) *

I traded a 1997 BMW M3 for the 1999 CLK 430. My decision was very easy not only from style but also performance. I have been driving the 430 since new. I feel the luxury the MB brings to the table is phenomenal. It is a complete joy to drive until winter rolls around. The fat rear tires, along with the power do not provide a condusive environment for safe, donut free driving. Excluding the average ten days of snow...this car is a blast. Regular maintenance is relatively justified. All other makes and models that I would be interested in now have to live up to the 430, that is if I decide to trade it.

Strength:

smooth ride ,awsome pick up especially on the highway when you need to jummp from 60 to say 120 the car does it effortlessly!

Weakness:

it is very very bad in the snow .because of 1}the power 2}the super wide back tires.i justb put 3 50 pound bags of rock salt in the trunk. just remember when in the snow put the trans in w mode and dont i repeat dont put the esp on !you just have to push the pedal ever so slightly and you get there.dont worry though spring will be here soon and hello 155

im in love with the car. the quickness, smoothness and all around looks of the convertible .its a real head turner.true luxury

Strength:

Strong engine, german build quality, speed. Nothing could beat this were it not for the problems sourcing parts. Sooner or later it will become impossible to keep it running at peak.

Weakness:

Parts - it's a rare automobile. Audi's dealers are awful when it comes to assistance. Surprising from a marque that could have been put out of domestic business by that brake thing back in the eighties.

All I can say is "buyer beware" - not of the automobile itself, because the car drives like a dream. The problem is parts, and the problem is Audi. (Especially the ignorant and snobbish dealer network.) I've owned a couple of big cars, all bought from the same guy - and this is by far and away the best car I've driven. It's slow and ponderous in the city, but on the highway it truly shines. Built like a tank (with the average mpg to prove it...) this thing just gallops up to speed in no time. Safe, extremely well built and....I'd say reliable but this is a 12 year old machine. When it's operating well you forget the problems...

Model Reviewed: CLK320 Cabriolet

Strength:

The car is Brilliant Silver and is an eye catcher. It is very smooth on the highway, much smoother than my 97 E320. I am 6'2 and have plenty of room with two in the car.

Weakness:

Handles like a luxury car rather than a sports car. The car is loaded and sometimes the phone and CD changer malfunction. I had 2 incidents in which the roof wouldn't come down and the vehicle had to be re-started to fix the malfuntion.

The car is so fun to drive that you very rarely want to get out when you've reached your destination.

Weakness:

Build Quality

Squeaks and rattles, rattles and squeaks....this darn Mercedes really creaks. The engine is wonderful, as are the brakes, but the build quallity is abysmal. I never thought I'd see so much cheap platic in a Mercedes.

Strength:

Very responsive to the road and has powerful acceleration. Rides like a luxury sedan and performs like a 10 second car.

Weakness:

Should have standard lumbar seat for us old guys for back support

The car is a must have. It’s the prime example of high performance in a luxury car. I''ve tested the BMW''s and other cars that for some reason was considered to be in the class of the CLK and found them to be a total disappointment. We also have a 1989 420sel which spoiled our taste in well-built cars, which now can only be satisfied by Mercedes.

Strength:

Performance (I recently tested a CLK55 and was amazed by the lack of noticeable difference), looks, quality of hood, etc (it even has coat hooks!!). Overall packaging. M-B service

Weakness:

Lousy standard Michelin Pilots. I changed for Bridgestone Potenza SO-2''s which are immeasurably superior. Slightly ''iffy'' build quality...windows constantly need adjustment, electrics (of options like phone) are unreliable, too much cowl shake compared to BMW M3 cab.

Ordered on sight, and took 17 months to deliver. 2nd 430 cab in USA. After 20000 miles, the car has really become special: great performance, good looks and excellent handling. It is sensitive to color: everyone takes the easy option...Mercedes silver, but mine, in Firemist Red, attracts many spontaneous compliments. Hard to figure what to replace it with: it is a great performance/practical bargain, seating 4 people when needed.

Strength:

Compact, very comfortable, huge power reserve, huge brakes, big boot (trunk ?), no squeaks or rattles anywhere, track car handling, perfect balance, goes like the wind, and looks to die for.

Weakness:

I really can''t think of a single one.

The car follows a 3 litre v8 BMW and a 4.4 litre v8 BMW. I read these reviews before I took delivery and wondered if I had made a mistake. I assume that Mercedes sells cars to America that are differently set up from the European ones. My car (my first Mercedes)is taut, precise, as fast as can be, beautifully balanced in and out of corners (we have a lot of these in England) and a joy to drive anywhere, in any conditions, I have completely fallen in love with her, something I NEVER thought could happen with a Merc - admire yes, but love, never !
