Strength:

comfortable riding car. good fuel mileage for a heavy car. 28-30 mpg cdn on a trip to east coast. Have not had any drive train issues as of yet

Weakness:

electrical' the lumbar on the drivers seat was not working, took it to the dealer, they fixed it brought it home, that night the park lights would not go out $1,000 later they now do (replaced the signal/light control) a big concern with this car is how dealers appear to sock it to you when you bring it in for service. In 3 mos, I have spent $2,300 on it. Had some A/C problems, The back pass. side window suddenly does not work. The latest strange problem is water collecting on the floor of the rear pass. side. We have had the carpet pulled up for several weeks trying to determine where it is coming from. At first we thought the rear window was leaking down (it had some imperfections in the trim) We fixed that, but it still collects water. The water is clean so we determined that it could not be from the underside. I beleive now that it is probably coming from a A/C condensate line. If any one knows about this from personal expeirence please post it.

Purchased the car after deciding not to buy new (a van) Have always liked the looks of the Aurora. Didn't know anything about them and only found this site after the cheque was cashed.

Strength:

Beautifully-curved body style. Bargain-priced luxury features normally found on Lexus, Mercades, Infiniti, and BMW automobiles priced several times as much. Engine so smooth and quiet some passengers were surprised the car was even running when I put it in gear!

Weakness:

High consumption of 91+ octane fuel. But rememeber: this car has 116,000 miles on it, so of course it will use more gas than when brand-new! Also, not a good machine for servicing by shade-tree mechanics. But what modern motor vehicle is?!?!

The Olds Aurora is proof that Americans really can build the finest motor vehicles in the world, especially when price is factored in! I hear people bragging about cushy features in the import-luxury models they still owe tens of thousands on that came on the '96 Aurora that I gave only five grand for!

After owning this car 6.5 years, it has never broken down, and it has never been towed...very reliable/ go anywhere. Also, the shocks/sruts, fuel pump, and muffler have never needed replaced. This car is a bargin price for the muscle and the luxury. You can pay thru the nose for a BMW, but you will still have to fix it, and this northstar engine will pass you daily.

Weakness:

Some things, like the dual clamate control, you never fix. way too much money to fix. Head lights too dim. Uses only premium gas.

I have used this car from 56,000 to 135,000 miles. Prior to 100k only major expenses was $500(for part only) Radiator which is plastic and only weighs about 5 pounds - 65,000 miles. Otherwise the car is heavy frequently needs front tires and brakes all around. After 100k If you smell gas on hills replace the fuel rail ASAP $600+. If your Service engine soon light is on and nobody can fix it, You need a new computer, Only $180 for part. If your trasmission feels like it is slipping there is a cylonoid in the tranny that I have not replaced yet. Acts up for about a week after flooring it. If your tracton control goes besurk I never fixed and problem went away. kick the traction control in on purpose in the snow now and then (use it or lose it). Battery is $125 but lasts longer under back seat were it doesn't get as cold. A/C compresor at 129,000 miles. It was making a funny noise along with the water pump which is new + 2 belts - $900+. I also had to replace one of the front brake boots when I got new front rotors and shoes - $680 at Minenke for everything.

Sleek, fast, hot car. Power is incredible for it's size. Stereo with some after market mods is great. Roomy interior.

Weakness:

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS GALOUR. IF you can't figure out how to fix your broken tv don't buy this car. ENGING ISSUES are expensive and hard to figure out.

The car was great at first when i bought it. Slowly things started happening such as the power options in the driver door panel shorting out and dieing. That wasn't hard to fix, I just pulled the door off and used 6 15 cent wire buts and fixed it. There is another wiring short in the dash somewhere causing my Tach to twitch, sometimes it seems like it dances to my stereo. The car does run a little hot but the only time it went about 220 for me was when the water pump belt burned up. Here is the biggy. Recently and I haven't figured out why the car started shuttering and clunking when you tried to use a little power. THings like accelerating on the highway, or up a hill caused an obnoxuious and scary thunking noise. Finally I think I'm ready to fix and sell the car. It just today started having trouble starting, and when it did it started burning oil like a fiend, just out of the blue. It stalled twice getting it home. I think this has something to do with the previous problem I never was able to fix. If this place lets me i'll post an update as to what was wrong with it. That is if I don't just pay someone to hit the thing and call it totaled.

Overheating, rear air shocks, loose steering column.

Like everyone else, it overheats. Steering column loose. Not too many electrical problems, (knock wood). Very stylish car. Excellent to drive. Fair gas mileage. Replaced air shocks in rear once, then again and the pump burned out. Desogn defect I guess.

Model Reviewed: Oldsmobile Aurora 3.5

Strength:

Design, Comfort, Excellent Engine 3.5 liter, Smooth Ride

Weakness:

Hard Edge to front bucket seats Universal Steering Joint Mechanism

Finally, GM gets it right. I have driven my Aurora for over 2 years now and I have absolutely NO complaints. This is a well made car with an excellent engine, (I have the V-6 3.5 liter). The interior is well laid out and the car rides extremely smooth going down the interstate. The only complaint would be concerning the bucket seats, they have a hard edge to them and getting in and out of the car you feel the hard edge on the back side of your legs, but the seat itself is very comfortable. I did have one slight problem with the steering mechanism. The universal steering joint went bad and as you would turn corners or apply the brakes you could feel a knocking in the steering wheel. My previous car was and Oldsmobile Intrigue, and it too had the same steering problem. Other than that I have had absolutely NO PROBLEMS! The car now has over 22000 miles on it and I bought it used with 11,000 miles on it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Oldsmobile like the Intrigue and the Aurora. My father is now driving the Intrigue that I use to own and he says that it is the best driving car that he has ever owned. He compares it to his 1990 Nissan Maxima that also gave absolutely NO problems. If the foreign auto makers wanted excellent competition, then GM got it right with the Oldsmobile Aurora. By the way I would like to say that both the Aurora and the Intrigue have the 3.5 liter engine in both of them. This is an excellent engine and was probably the deciding factor as to why I chose to by the Aurora. Since I had NO problems with the Intrigue's 3.5 liter engine, then I felt that purchasing the Aurora with the same engine would give me the same excellent results. I was not dissappointed. Just regular maintenance of oil changes, oil filter changes, air filter changes and that's all this car needs. I purchased the car for $18,000.00 at a Chevrolet dealership in Kenly North Carolina as a used automobile, and it only had 11,000 miles on the car. I read all the reviews at CarReview.com before finding the vehicle on the internet. All other dealerships wanted the same car with 3 times the mileage for prices ranging from $26,000 to $30,000. Overall I am very pleased. Thanks to CarReview.com for allowing car buyers like me to put my info on the web so that other vehicle buyers don't get stuck with lemons. We use to own a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan that was nothing but a lemon. I will never go back to Dodge again, and I have found that by using CarReview.com I can read the reviews of other satisfied car owners and look for any trends in the dissatisfied owners who write reviews. Once I sold my Dodge Grand Caravan I looked up on the web all of the reviews about Dodge Grand Caravans, and all of the other owners were having the exact same problems with their Dodge minivan that I was having. Had I known then what I know now about reading these reviews from satisfied and dissatisfied owners, I could have avoided purchasing the Dodge Grand Caravan, and I bought that minivan brand new. Good Luck Mercedes in converting Chrysler into a better product because once stung, you never go back, or at least I don't. Their is no excuse for putting a product on the market that is junk especially when you consider how much money a vehicle costs today! Believe me when I say that their will be NO more car purchases without first reading CarReview.com. Hearing complaints from previous car owners is the best way to purchase a good reliable vehicle and avoid the lemons.
