Strength:

power, fun to drive, very comfortable. looks goods, motor sounds great

Weakness:

battery placement, why would you put the battery under the back seat. for the longest i didn't know where it was. Also someone told me that you have to turn some switch off before you jack this car up. i went to a caddilac dealer, and they told me that there wasn't no such thing. electrical problems. everything is electrical in it. and that's where your money comes into play i took my car to a shop to see why it was running hot. he had no clue said he would call me back when he found out. i guess he didn't find out yet cause he hasn't called yet

I have always liked the look of this car. Never thought i would ever purchase one. but i did. The car from a distance is wonderful. inside and out. But once you really get into it. You change your mind. As far as how it drives, it's wonerful. I bought mine used with 148,000 miles on it. so i expect some problems, well may be a lot. but by this time i'm pretty sure everything that could happen to it should have already done so. Currently i have had a problem with it over heating. i not sure if that's fixed properly yet. At this time none of my windows work. those are the only things that i recking my nerves right now. i will admit this care will drain your pockets. I have a little warranty on it,so i'm going to used it every chance i get to. But i don't think that i will keep this car long, probaly until the begining of the year if it last that long. This is a car you would have to but brand new, with plenty of warranty.

Its been a great car. just Routine maintenance. I put about 30k per year, wound'nt want any other car. Plenty of top end, 140mph governor is a plus.... Its a bargain for the 35,000 sticker

Expensive to repair, shortage of aftermarket and performance upgrades for this vehicle. Either you have a lemon or a great one. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to get a good one. Must be properly serviced and maintained. Extended warranty a must.!

I love this car! I was shopping for a car to replace my Lincoln Mark VII,and ran into the Aurora. Excellent blend of luxury and performance. One of the most stylish automobiles ever made by GM.

Strength:

Bought for 1/3 of what it's worth. Great Power. Good Highway Mileage. Well Engineered and Assembled. Looks Great. Great Factory Sound System With the addition of a subwoofer. The Leather Power Seats are extremely comfortable as well as nice to look at. The Automatic Climate Control is nice and works excellent. And yeah, it's an Olds

Weakness:

Transmission shifts like a luxury Car. A little hard on gas in town. Weighs 4000 pounds. Runs Warm in extreme weather. The Air Conditioner must take 20 Horsepower to run. The Automatic Headlights can be a nuisance at the drive-in, or if you are trying to be stealthy.

First of All, I can't even begin to tell you the feeling you get when you drive this car, it is absolutely perfect. I have to admit I was a little nervous about the extensive electronics on this car but everything works flawlessly. The only trouble I have had thus far is when one of the spark plugs went out, after replacing all of the plugs I still had problems with the car running rough and found out I got a plug with a bad insulator on it which in turn caused the insulation on the plug wire to get a bad spot that caused the new plug to arc out also. This is a problem on this car as it has hemispherical heads so the spark plugs are surrounded by valve cover which makes an excellent conductive path for electricity. That said, I replaced the plug wires and haven't had a problem since, the car runs better than good. The interior on my aurora was designed perfectly the doors are excellent and they close well. No rattles in any part of the car. The motor has great power and it gets over 29 miles to the gallon on long trips. With the addition of an air intake kit and k and n filter I have managed to get the power up high enough on this 4000 pound beauty to beat the 3 person lighter supercharged Grand Prix GTP two car lengths off the ramp and pulling away slowly from there. As far as reliability, I do my own repair work you will find if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. I owned a cutlass supreme before this and it ran 200,000 miles with only about $300.00 in parts invested and never used a drop of oil its whole lifetime, let's see you say that about your rice burner. Oh yeah and the cutlass was the car I let my friends drive every time their rice runners were in the shop for repairs. Hands down the aurora is one of the finest automobiles on the road, truly an american classic, it will be a sad day in american history the day oldsmobile closes it's doors.

Strength:

Good performance for a boat. Loaded with toys, even ride height and speed sensitive steering. Norstar V8 good on gas (if you dont get into it too much). Great ride. Impresses friends. Good family car.

Weakness:

Fit and finish could be a lille better. GM should have done more homework on reliability longevity. Electrical gremlins (until you track it down). Radio clock has a mine of its own. A/C need a larger compresser.

There sure are a lot of whiners about this car who fail to see the value in it. It's an inexpensive American top of the line lux-o-boat. Inexpensive being the operative word, and American meaning it's going to have problems. (duh!) But for all of those who've spent un-Godly $$ on repairs, you obviously have'nt done your homework. Parts are not that expensive, most stuff is off the shelf GM parts. Folks need to go to PepBoys or Advanced Auto stores and get the parts themselves, prices are reasonable, really. Then install them yourself, or have your mechanic do it. Reoccuring electrical issues effecting engine performance is usually one of the four coils going bad (not computer monitored). If your looking to buy this car, you should know a little about auto mechanics so you can handle the small stuff. Reliability is mediocure, but when it's all working right, it's a dream car. Buy one from a respectable dealer (CarMax) and get a warrenty. Mine had 85K miles on it when I bought it, so most of the little glitches had already been fixed. It was all highway miles, and the car was not abused (which it sounds like some of those other reviewers had purchased a car that was raced too much). Mine has had problems too: Rear ash try door wont close (kids playing with it too much) Replaced one coil after several trips back to the shop (because they thought it was plug and wire arching-yea, right, I had to tell them to change the coil! And this was a Caddy dealer no less- since Olds is gone) Brake booster gave out (too many wife panic stops!-she really needs to learn to slow down!) Drivers window motor died. Only replace parts with GM OEM (even wires and plugs), or you'll be sorry. It's a comfy, quick, great riding, fun to play with, gadget laden, loaded, safe, boat to drive. I'll never give mine up.

Strength:

V8 power. Sleek, aerodynamic look and feel. Lots of electrical gadets. Comfortable seats.

Weakness:

I didn't want to purchase the Aurora since I had strong doubts about GM "reliability." But my wife had her heart set on the car despite my strong mis-givings. The car had a lot of electrical gadgets that could fail and lead to costly repairs. We purchased the extended warranty as a hedge (something I wouldn't normally do) and I'm very glad we did. It's more than paid for itself already. We've taken the car in to be fixed a handfull of times in less than two years since we bought it on (9/11/2001!). Mostly electrical. Problems with the turn signal (twice), security system, AC, etc. In fact, we just got the out of the shop yesterday after the security system kept flashing the headlights on and off which ran down the battery. I plan to sell the car before the extended warranty expires in another few years. Hopefully I can convince my wife to buy a reliable Japanese car next time. Another thing I hate is the turning radius. The thing turns like a tank. This is supposed to be a sporty luxury car. I can't believe Olds skimped on the steering. I do not like the interior visibility. It feels claustraphobic in there sometimes.

My wife liked the look, V8 power, and electrical gadgets of the 1998 Olds Aurora. She wanted the luxury car with a sporty, modern look. That's why we purchased this used car in the first place. However, I had misgivings about the Aurora's extensive electrical system and the reliablity of GM products in general. My fears have been realized as we have taken the Aurora in to the repair shop a handfull of times since we purchased it on 9/11/2001! Thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty when we bought it. The warranty has easily paid for itself already. The Aurora (and entire Oldsmobile line) are being discontinued for a good reason. The American automakers are closing the reliability gap, but the Japanese are still ahead. Performance, crash tests, and fuel economy for the Aurora are only average. Turning radius stinks. The consumer can purchase higher quality, more reliable cars elsewhere. Goodbye Oldsmobile. You might not be my "father's Oldsmobile" anymore (he passed away four years ago anyway), but you will not be missed by me!

electrical system; very poor resale value due to common costly defects; parts nopt readily available; lack of assistance from Olds; GM dealers not interested or equipped to service; since it is discontinued.

We liked the car initially. The original dealer would not fix anything until the warranty expired, then charged $600 to replace the water pump at 51,000 miles even though we repeatedly asked them to check it during routine maintenance. Recently electrical problems have developed, and the dealer cannot find the cause or fix it. The dealer contacted Olds experts and was told they get at least 50 calls a day reporting similar problems. The resale value is very poor, considering the sticker price. I contacted the Olds customer assistance department and was told once a car is out of warranty it is the owner's responsibility to repair.

really heavy (4000lbs). i wish is had more torque ( it has 260) but i dont think it has enough take-off. the seat controls are oddly place, engine is very tight (havent worked on it yet, but it looks like it would be hard).

This is my 1st car and it was the best one i found for the money. I havent had a single problem, knock on wood, and it hase been greta for me. i really hope i didnt make a mistake. it's a fun and eciting car to drive, nice sounding engine, i wish it had more power and better acceleration, but it is fast enough. The trunk is huge, and the interior is unbelievable. It looks bran new and the negine is spotless. it only had 76950 mi. when i bought it in june 2003. it seems to get good gas mileage so far. i got it wioth 4 new tires and it drives as straight as an arrow without my help. so far, its cool, pluss i just found out that it was used as a race car for a few years!
