Thw weakness out weight anything positive about the year make/model.

Weakness:

The car is should be recalled

With out a doubt this car has caused a mountain of frustrations and headaches. I am positive that there is something seriously wrong with the 1999 production line of the 9-5. The problems I have had are so numerous I don''t know were to begin. I have been stranded. I have had the car towed 4 or 5 times. The engine has malfunctioned several times. Bulbs would burn out often. I even became fearful of driving because I wasn''t sure how the car would perform. And now that the warrenty has expired the car needs over 4000 dollars worth of repairs, and I only have 40,000 miles on it. Twice I have tried to answers from the corporate office without success. I am aware of other people in the Chicago area having the same problem, but I was surprised by reading these reviews to find out this is a nation wide issue. Saab should issue a refund.

Stability, design, gas milage, mid and high speed acceleration, I like power on demand - you don''t need 6 cylinders to burn gas all the time, do it only when you need it with amazing 4 cylinder engine.

Weakness:

None yet.

It''s a great car. My second SAAB and I love it. Design, power, reliability just few of strengths... It took me a while to persuade my wife to buy this car instead of BMW 5. Now I barely see the car - she drives it all the time. I hate Japanese cars resembling each other. In my point of view their reliability won''t compensate for poor and faceless design and very cheap feeling. People try SAAB where design and reliability come together. Try to be little bit different at least on the road.

Strength:

Nice looks, fun to drive (if you ever get it working).

Weakness:

In the last month, the car has spent a total of 10 days at the dealer over two different occasions. So basically, I get to drive a Cavalier, but pay for a Saab. One month the power steering fluid drained out of a loose hose, leaving me fairly stranded. The next month, a hairline fracture occurred in the gas tank for no apparent reason. Rattles abound, too. A new rattle pops up about every 2 weeks.

The car started out great--looked good, drove well, fun appointments. And then it started falling apart. It''s been in the shop about every month since I''ve owned it, and always for something different. I''m trying my best to get out of the lease, because it''s by far the worst car I''ve ever driven maintenance-wise. I will never buy another Saab, and won''t recommend them to others. Even their customer assistance center has been extremely difficult to work with.

Fantastic car. This is my 7th SAAB and I never stop enjoying this grat brand. The car is ultra comfortable, very well appointed, great seats, great audio system. it handles supremely well and the torque is out of the world. Of course it is pleasurable to leave the Porches in the dust (yes - look at the comparisons in terms of acceleration) but it is equally important in the crazy traffic in New York and/or the highway. Talking about safety - there is literally every safety amenity including some state of the art futuristic inventions like the head restraints. I lease my cars and at the end of every three years I hate to see them go - but than the new Saab enters and the love affair starts all over. To those who have had problems - you probably got lemons - contact Saab America headquarters - you will find them very helpful and responsive.

Great car. Everyone comments on the looks. So far it has been a much better car than my Volvo 850. It rides better, has more pick-up, is quieter and no rattles. In the first year this car has had zero defects. That was more than I could say about my Volvo

Model Reviewed: 9-5 Aero Sedan, Manual

Strength:

Manual tranny available! Great styling - you don''t see them everywhere like BMW, etc. Awesome low end torque - incredible power instantly in all gears. Great seats. Great interior and lots of nice luxury features: double sun visors, blind spot exterior mirror, cooled glovebox, etc. Best steering wheel ever! Handling is amazing, must be tried to be believed. Value: We looked at the BMW 5-series, but would be about 15k more! Just not worth the difference! Beyond that, it''s much more fun to drive than virtually all of its competitors (except for the A6 2.7T which costs lots more) Free scheduled maintenance. Don''t let Saab prices fool you - huge discounts are usually available. Available ventilated seats (cooling fan) - I don''t have them, wish I did, but another example of great Saab features. Great safety - In the European NCAP tests, it''s received the highest ratings ever. Huge trunk, useful cargo net included.

Weakness:

Depreciation is a problem. Torque steer as it''s FWD. Other than that only small quibbles not really worth mentioning, as the positives overwhelmingly outweigh any weaknesses. If I must say something: rubbery shifter (although I''m no great fan of BMW shifters either), interior quality not quite up to Audi standards, key remote has poor range, no full-size spare (Michelin Pilot Sport MMX tires are hard to find also).

My wife & I are both enthusiasts, and have owned/driven many cars. The Aero stands out as a near perfect blend of luxury, sport, roominess, and value. Other than torque steer, it''s an excellent car, and I think actually handles better than the Audi A4 (FWD with sport package) we just sold - less body roll. The turbo rush is great - huge low end torque, very similar to the Audi 225 TT we owned for a few months. The Aero is a truly practical luxury sports car that is a blast to drive. I highly recommend taking a test drive. For those with less need for speed, the base 2.3 (now called Linear) offers plenty of nice turbo power also. The new 2002 Linear and Arc now have the same suspension as the old Aero, and the new aero has an even tighter set-up. I think my 2001 feels perfect.

Appearance and quality of finish. Many features for the money. Ride quality. Steering system and road-feel are unsurpassed - this car goes where you point it, and doesn''t wander around lost.

Weakness:

Drink holders won''t hold a 16 ounce soda (unless you give up the console storage box). The audio system doesn''t live up to my expectations. MAJOR front wheel brake dust (without Kleen Wheels). Seems like too much road-noise on some surfaces. Couldn''t get anyone to install a Remote-Start system due to "too many interlocks/electronic features".

This Saab is a delight to drive or ride in. Bright red with a spoiler and black trim (I have NEVER met myself on the road!). The 4-cyl. turbo has no lag, and plenty of power/torque, particularly in Sport mode. Car has 34,000 miles on it, paint is flawless and shiny (Liquid Glass). Heated seats come on in first mile of cold weather driving. Automatic Climate Control works great, and is programmable. Lots of interior room. Trunk is large, with a low entrance wall, so it''s easy to load LONG objects which protrude thru the rear seat hole. The right side "curb-viewing-mirror" when in reverse is handy! The rims are great looking (5-spoke). I installed Kleen Wheels to reduce brake dust on the front wheels (not recommended for people who brake a lot - heat?). Good traction/balance in snowy conditions, and transmission has a "Winter" mode, also. I enjoy the many nice touches which were designed into this car. It''s my 7th Saab (all turbos) and it''s by far the nicest one yet! Tremendous steering system goes where you point it, and feeds back just the perfect amount of "Feel for the Road".

Everything.

Weakness:

Cupholders! This car''s only weakness is its cupholders. The back seat cupholders are fine, but those in front are awful. There is a cupholder in the dash which pops out when you push on it. It folds out of the dash in this really cool way and looks very high tech. Unfortunately, it is lousy at holding cups. The ring is hard plastic lined with these little rubber thingies that exert a lot of friction on a coffee cup (for me, its usually a Tim Horton''s). There is so much friction, that it is really tough to pull the cup out once you put it in. In fact, for all practical purposes the cupholder cannot be used when you are in motion. There is a second front seat cupholder. It is in the little box placed between the front seat driver and front seat passenger. This cupholder is a deep cylinder that clips in inside the box. Don''t be fooled - this cupholder is no good, either. The box this cupholders clips into is too far back from the driver to be easily reached. Again, as a practical matter, this cupholder cannot safely be used when driving. Despite these problems, I have figured out a way to safely drink coffee in this car. You unclip the cupholder from inside the

I should mention that the actual price was $45,000 in Canadian Dollars, which is about $30,000 in U.S. funds. To summarize briefly, I love this car! The ride is extremely comfortable. There is little noise and the driver''s seat fits me perfectly. The climate controls are easily within reach and the operation is intuitively obvious. When you turn on the defrost, the front and back windows clear very quickly. The engine''s power is rather surprising. The car is 185 horsepower, but it seems more powerful than that. This car REALLY moves. The gas mileage, if you care about that, is better than as stated in the manuel. I don''t know what it is in gallons, but in metric I average about 7.0 to 7.5 litres per 100km. My driving is about 60% highway. The stereo sounds great, and like the other controls, was easy to figure out without having to resort to the manual. The various electric components have functioned without problems, including the power locks, sunroof, seats and so on. I splurged when I got this car, and went for every possible option where you get the leather seats with a bunch of little holes in them (I forget what the call this feature). Believe me, it''s worth it in hot weather. Lots of air gets blown through the seat onto your back and lower body. Very comfy - on hot days you arrive at your destination without a sweaty back. The air conditioning is powerful. The dual climate control is also a nice feature, as my wife often wants the settings different from me.

Weakness:

There is a lot of brake dust that accumulates on the wheels.

I''ve had this car for 4 months now with absolutely no problems. I needed a 4 door and wanted a sports car. This was the perfect compromise. The car is distinctive, handles better than almost any 4 door out there, performs great and gets good mileage. It''s extremely comfortable and the leather seats cool down very quickly in the summer with the ventilated seat option and heat up quickly in the winter. Now that I''m used to the ignition being between the seat it feels completely natural and makes more sense than having to reach behind the steering wheel.

It looks kinda nice.

Weakness:

Since I do not have the time to recreate the Encyclopedia Brittanica of weaknesses on this car, I will tell you that it has spent over 25 days at the dealership since new. The steering is horrible and shakes, the door locks have failed, I''ve gotten my key stuck in the ignition several times, the leather on the seats is crap, and the car feels tinny at highway speeds. I am a damn fool for not having test driven a used Saab 9-5 when I bought because if I had, I''d have noticed that this car loosens up and developes rattles very, very quickly.

This car is absolutely haunting in every way. I would say avoid it at all costs. I have only 21,000 miles on it and Saab offered me only $18,600 for a trade in! Couldn''t believe it! Unless you like being stranded, get something else. Please!
