Strength:

Solid. Good seats. Lots of space (I like the rear seat fold down configuration). Good sound system. POWER is excellent. My friends make me drive all the time.... Rims are cool. Black looks good. Cup holder is off the charts cool. Little Saab things like cooler in glove box, interior lights (dim slowly), seat memory, etc...

Weakness:

Body roll. My 9000 has less body roll and it''s 10 years old. Sheet metal is to thin, dings to easy.

I have always wanted to hate Saab. My wife made me buy a new 9000 in ''92. I grew to like the car, even though it''s underpowered. When I needed a new car in ''99 I looked at a Saab 9-5 and found it impressive. Improved in almost all ways over the 9000. I hate taking a new car back to the dealer for little problems, even if the fix is under warranty. I have only had this car back to the dealer once for a recall. The dealer has taken care of me (both cars). I may trade my old Porsche for a Viggen. Nope, can''t do it.

Strength:

Most everything.

Weakness:

Brake dust on tires and the Saab tradition of minor unreliabilities, but this is no big deal.

What a great car! It''s very sporty and luxurious, has ample room for storing luggage, has neat ergonomics, the engine just takes off, the tires and rims are sweet, the climate control is awesome and the stereo system is powerful, to say the least. Plus, Saab really gives you substance for the money. A similar car, like the BMW 5 series, costs $10-$15,000 more, but the Saab is just as good, IMO.

Strength:

Huge storage room capability, cool ergonomics, very comfortable seats, spacious rear, great turbo power and noticable increasing popularity among luxury car buyers.

Weakness:

Brake dust, tendency for head and fog lights to go out, and the placement of the window buttons on the console(it''s really difficult to manuver these things while you''re driving).

All I can say is that this is a fun, fast, attractive, comfortable luxury car. I''d buy a Saab over a BMW or Audi anyday, especially because that''s all you see on the road. You can buy a Saab for 15000 dollars less than a lexus or bimmer and you''d probably get the same thing or more in quality.

Strength:

Value-wasnt sure about the money first, because you really are only getting a 4 cylinder engine, but Saab gave me 5k off and $400 over invoice. Comfort-more spacious than my Benz or BMW was.Back seat flips and folds flat for my dog.No need to buy the wagon in my mind.Controls are straightforward.Audio system is very good.2-piece BBS wheel package a steal.Very quick car.Handles great.MPG cant be beat plus this level of performance.

Weakness:

clutch can get a little old.its fairly grabby.BBS wheels easy to curb kiss.Remote control for doors is painfully weak, almost a waste of time.High trunk lid makes backing up difficult at times, also blind spot is fairly wide, but who cares because im passing them all anyways at $10k less.

So far, I feel I made a good choice.I might have choosen the auto if I could do it over again. The stick does keep things more on the boil though. The clutch can be grabby at times when trying to drive slow.Wish I got the ventilated seats.Physically, the Aero sedan is gorgeous.People always say, "thats a Saab?"

Strength:

The standard 4 cyl. has amazing torque and response - especially in the auto sport mode. Mileage is superb and I love to pass the German cruisers and wonder what they got for an extra 30K.

Weakness:

A bit of road noise on certain types of pavement.

In the 12 months I''ve owned my 9-5 I can only say that I''m finding more reasons to love it. Solid, dependable and safe at ANY cruising speed.

Strength:

Good outside appearance, extremely comfortable seats, great feel for the road while driving

Weakness:

Needs more horsepower, repeated breakdowns and service visits, excessive brake dust

I'm not sure if this was a bad production year for Saab or if my car in particular did not meet my expectations. I really enjoyed driving this vehicle everyday but after 12 to 14 service visits and continuing problems (which appear almost daily)I would not consider buying another product from Saab. I do not have any faith in this vehicle's reliability. Unfortunately, for the price, this car tends to be much more affordable to the average consumer then the Audi and BMW, especially since Saab offers a factory incentive to move its product. But when you consider, you get what you pay for, then I'll pay the extra $150/month for an Audi A-6.

Strength:

Beautiful, spacious interior, nice outer styling, very fast excelleration, big trunk, air conditioned leather seats, climate control, and high performance tires.

Weakness:

Everyone that whines and complains about a car that is very much comparable to an Audi 4-6 series, a BMW 3-5 series, a Volvo S60-S80 series, or a Lexus ES300. The only real gripe I have with the actual company is that they don't advertise nearly enough.

I LOVE THIS CAR!! I also own a 2000 Saab 9-3 convertible and I like it just as much as the 9-5. The 9-5 is very comfortable to drive and it definitely turns heads. I also like the fact that Saabs don't resemble every other luxury car...it stands out. In my opinion, I think Saab is finally producing cars that are competing with the finest luxury vehicles around, like BMW, Lexus and Audi. I keep seeing people writing that they've had horrendous experiences with Saabs and I say to myself, this must be an isolated occurence because between myself and my friends, we've never had a major problem, although the electrical system is kinda unreliable, but that's minor at best. Overall I give this car and company straight A's.

Style and ride and room

Weakness:

Bad electrical system--seemingly. Other than that, I can feel too much pull in the front wheels and steering wheel. This could be from the front-wheel drive. If I had to do it over again, I would go for the Audi. The control and ride is much better, but I like the style of the Saab.

Fantastic riding car, very smooth and comfortable. I have never owned a Saab. Unfortunately, I have had to return to the dealership four times over the past three months for petty, niggling problems. My door locks went out as well. I pray that this is not a bad omen for the entire electrical system. The passenger's seat motor broke and my bright lights would not turn on. For the most part, I enjoy the car. My neighbor informs me that the 9-5 is closely related to the Cadillac Catera. He has had a number of problems with his Catera. I can only hope that my 9-5 is "debugged" at this point.

Absolutely nothing.

Weakness:

Everything.

It has been on the road for over 2 1/2 years and has been the shop between 18 and 20 times. Lost all of its coolant and in the process of repairing that they put a hole in the emissions hose and still needed to put more coolant in. My dash lights have gone out, my foglights rarely work together and the front end wobbles despite the fact of never being in an accident. I am in the process of litigating under the guidelines of the Lemon Law. Saab has been most unhelpful throughout. The dealership will only take $15,000 for it on trade--says a lot about the resale. I will never buy another Saab again and will talk all of my country club friends out of buying one. Yours truly, Saretta Rowland.

Strength:

We like pretty much everything about this car. I was surprised to read comments from some that they have had problems with this car. Except for a factory recall on the computer (we noticed no problem, but took it in anyway) and a minor starting problem one night this winter, we have nothing to complain about. The car is stylish, very roomy, the trunk is about as big as a car trunk can get and the ride is very smooth (even on Midwest roads made terrible by the winter weather). Aside from one nit-picky thing that I'll list below, this car is everything we hoped it would be. I think my wife prefers it to her RX300, but she won't admit it. When you throw in all the little extras (i.e. heated seats, ventilated seats, in-steering wheel radio controls, refridgerated glovebox, hidden antenna, etc.) I foresee us owning a Saab for a long, long time. Plus, our dealer and service center (2 seperate places) are both fantastic (the few times we have had to visit them).

Weakness:

This is minor, but it drives me batty. The brake dust on the front tires. The tires and rims are exceptionally "cool" and give the car a great look, but the brake dust starts to dirty them the moment you back out of the garage. In spring/summer/autumn, it is nearly impossible for the rims to stay clean for more than a few days.

Overall, I would recommend this car to anyone. Even with the re-design in 1999, the Saab stands out as unique on the road. There is no mistaking it for another car, and to me that is nice. I think the price is reasonable for what you get and we will most likely buy another one in a few years. I may be fortunate in that I have had no problems with my car, but a co-worker owns a 1999 9-3 and he hasn't had any problems that I am aware of either (except for the computer recall). He also raves about his, so I believe Saab to be a reliable manufacturer.

From purely a drive standpoint, it is much smoother than our friends Volvos, and more stylish (but that is just an opinion). Test drove the ES300 and it didn't even compare. Similar price, fewer amenities and bumpier ride.
