Strength:

1, Safety cant be beat 2, comfortable 3, Stylish

Weakness:

1, Brakes make an annoying noise when released and dealer states "this is normal" 2, Cup holder in dash breaks quite easily with normal use 3, Electrical system seems to short circuit at very inconveinent times 4, Volvo roadside emergency service placed me on hold for over 40 minutes, I guess they figure you'll get tired of waiting and find assistance elsewhere

I have owned my S60 2.4T for 14 months. I feel very safe and comfortable driving it, however I am experiencing some common problems which I have heard voiced in other reveiws including 1) The sunroof getting stuck in the open position along with a malfunction of the front overhead and mirror lighting system, 2) the cupholder located in the dashboard is a joke, I've had it repaired at the 7500 service and the 15000 mile service, and 3) the brakes make a whistling noise when they are released and the sound is longer and more apparent to myself and passengers the longer I am stopped, this is quite annoying and the volvo service center insures my it is normal, however the loaner car they give me during service does not do this.

Strength:

-Beauty and style -Nice acceleration in turbo models -Very comfortable seats -Very nice dual climate controls -Safety features(front and side air bags, anti-whiplash system, etc...) -Volvo reliability -More bang for the buck with this vehicle over competitors.

Weakness:

-Back seat leg room MAY not be comfortable for taller people(6'+) -Have had problems with key unable to be removed from ignition. -Field of view over left sholder

All I have to say is beauty and class. All comparable models fall behind in looks and comfort. The exterior lines and curves are very seductive. I get double takes all the time. And the paint color(mine is black saphire) is just beautiful. Safety in this vehicle is unmatched. Performance is very surprising for what most would consider a posh luxury vehicle. Interior design and materials are very functional and pleasing to the eye. The seats are the most comfortable I've ever had. Every friend I let drive it tells me the seats are unbelievable. And the sound system is crystal clear with a great range of highs and lows with speakers everywhere. Edmunds rated it with the best audio in its class. Good amount of trunk space to for those weekend trips.

Engine isn't super smooth, can be a bit noisy inside, smallish back seat

I was coming off a lease of a BMW 528i, and wanted to save some serious cash. The S60 AWD is the ticket for me. Am I going to rant and rave how the S60 blows away the BMW? No, because it doesn't- the 528i is marvelous, and the smoothness of its inline 6 is a thing of beauty. The inline 5 on the Volvo, though powerful, itsn't so smooth. So do I like this car? You bet- nice ride, comfortable seats, good trunk, and frankly, the back seat, which is smallish, isn't a priority. If you're looking for a very nice sedan (it's not a sport sedan!) that is nicer that a 3 series, and lots cheaper than a 5 series, and don't want, need, or have outgrown the ultimate handling machine, by all means, get the Volvo S60. I did.

You will never ever find a car with more comfortable seats! I remember the guys at a mercedes dealership saying that the ultimate car would be a mercedes with Volvo seats. The power of the 2.4T is ok but amazingly the tuned the power down from what I was used to in my 1998 S70. The S70 was a rocket! Smooth ride except for what I will list below. Everybody who is a passenger comments on how smooth the ride is.

Weakness:

The air conditioning stinks! I mean it literally stinks... I keep having some kind of mold problem. I run it constantly and the horrible odor when it is first turned on is atrocious! Also, when the air conditioning is on, the engine doesn't respond normally when you press the gas pedal. I have taken my foot off the pedal and started to apply the brake when the car is still accelerating. You have to test drive it with the AC on to experience it! My S60 has some major electrical problems too. Last night I jumped into my car to drive and it was about 75 degrees out so I opted to open the sunroof. No GO! The entire overhead including the moonroof switch and the lighting did not work! It happens all the time and the dealership has no answer! The two front windows of the car have automatic up and down buttons that you can press once. Well when I press mine to go up... they go up and come back down!!!! When I press them to go down... they go back up! What a joke! Don't even bother getting the cupholder that is built into the dashboard! It has an indexing feature to accomodate different size cups. The indexing part of mine is broken for the 2nd time! Another waste! I have experienced the

I have only ever driven Volvo's so I am very familiar with them but not with any other kind of car. From a 1989 740 GLE to a 1991 740 to a 1993 740 Turbo to a 1995 960 to a 1998 S70 and now onto my current 2001 S60 2.4T. I will say that it is the fanciest of the bunch! It doesn't look like a box anymore! Anyways, there are definitely a few bugs! I almost wonder if the fact that this car was built after Ford bought Volvo is the reason behind them. Major electrical problems too! Read below to see why I call my S60 a FOLVO!

Beautiful styling, very comfortable seats. Lots of front leg room, but marginal in the back, although exiting from the rear is very easy. This S-60 is replacing a Japanese car, so for me, steering and handling are fantastic.

Weakness:

Although the power is adequate, I should have opted for one of the turbo versions. I find road noise to be quite excessive, and the A/C compressor growles at night and when raining.(Hopefully the dealer can correct)

I didn't need the hot rod versions, so I bought the standard S-60. Perfect size for my wife and I. Options include: metallic paint, 5 speed automatic transmission, and premium package which includes: sunroof, leather, power drivers seat, and CD player.

Engine (neat sound!), transmission and excellent clutch feel. Seats and the Dolby Pro Logic is the best system I have ever heard as factory systems go. The brakes, while grabby, are powerful. Excellent dynamics for FWD, but make sure you get the Sport Suspension - big difference! Telescopic steering is a plus as well. It is also very beautiful, especially in black with the black leather and aluminum trim and spaceball shifter, it looks like a design studio compared to the drab BMW interiors.

Weakness:

Grabby brakes take a while getting used to - if ever. That's about it.

Overall a fantastic car, with a personality of its own. Not Acura or Lexus bland, but not chest pumping BMW either. Quality car, fast and relaiable with the best seats in the business make for a worthy entry in this competitive field.

Peformance (acceleration) and stopping, control over the vehicle at high speeds, twisting turns. Lighting is excellent, winter package is killer. Stability is acute and felt dynamically. Sound system (steering wheel controls are awesome), Climate control (once understood) is amazing, paint, wipers consistent, sold starter, cant build a better car.

Weakness:

Every car has em. I dont care how much you spend. And you wont know them until you have had the car awhile. One reveiwer nailed two of them on the head: Headlights dont turn off. Ever. It can be annoying. Rear head rests do obstruct rear view (but if push headrest retract, that isnt a problem). Now I wouldn''t buy this car if i was going to transport famalies with children. And if you are, then I think the entire class is inappropriate cause the kiddies are going to ruin the leather. The only other truly annoying thing? Turning radius of yacht.

This is an excellent car. I test drove everything from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Acura, Lexus and could not get all the amenites and the horsepower/comfort/safety for this price. In its class, it is the best buy without a doubt.

Power, the wonderful seats, fit-and-finish.

Weakness:

Would like it to be a little more sporty. Stiffer springs and different shocks would do the trick.

An extremely nice car, but don''t buy it if you want a true "sports sedan." The BMW 330i, BMW 540i 6 speed, Audi S4, and Lexus IS 300 are more "sporty" than the S60. The new Audi A4 3.0 seems a little softer, similar to the S60. That being said, I really love this car. It has possibly the best seats on the market, is quiet, smooth, powerful, and a great highway cruiser. The turbo packs plenty of punch, especially when trying to pass on the freeway. The turbo-lag below 3000 RPM is significant, but if you use the manual portion of the 5-speed "manumatic" it is easy to keep the engine in it''s power zone. Quality seems top notch. The black paint looks beautiful on this car, especially under the street lights at night. Gets plenty of double takes from other people, probably because it is not a "belly button car" like the Audi and BMW. As was said in a previous review, the car really should be compared to the 5 series BMW (530) and the Audi A6. In this comparison, this car wins hands-down. Finally, Herb Gordon Volvo was great. Remember to ask for Brian Keys (he was extremely nice and professional).

Almost no road noise. Very fast because it has a turbo with 247 horsepower. Awesome 5-speed automatic transmission where you can drive in manual mode just like a stick shift. Audio system is even better than the Harmon Kardon or Bose in BMW and Audi. 25 miles per gallon so far. Beautiful paint quality. Rigid chassis. This thing rocks!

Weakness:

Low profile tires (45 series) can be a little bumpy for some at times.

First of all, a great purchase experience. Great dealership. A fantastic car. Compares more to a BMW 5 series than a 3. Quality is everywhere. Now available in 4 wheel drive version for 2002. I feel I got more than I paid for, rare for me.
