Strength:

Handling-The RSX makes carving canyon roads a great deal of fun. The steering communicates well and it is easy to sense the car's capabilities without having to worry about the car biting back. Engine-An amazing 4-cylinder engine. It smoothly reaches its redline of 7900 RPM without any apparent strain. It doesn't have the noticeable VTEC engagement point like previous Honda engines, but it still generates the trademark pull when you reach the upper registers of the tachometer. Transmission-The gates are well defined and the throws feel very precise. Interior-The interior is one of the most modern and stylish that I have seen. All of the instrumentation glows red at night and gauges look like they mean business. Every control feels like it was placed where it should be and the operation of the controls is easily decipherable. The steering wheel is small and thick which points to the car's sporting ability. The seats are well bolstered and supported. Gas Mileage-I typically get somewhere between 25 MPG to 27 MPG.

Weakness:

Lack of torque-This can be expected considering it's a 4-cylinder engine. FWD-Not as performance oriented as RWD. However, it's a fine FWD setup. Transmission-Can be somewhat notchy when cold, but this eventually goes away. Styling-Let's just say that Acura didn't take any chances here. Seats-Although great for holding you in while maneuvering through switchbacks, their bolstering can be inconvenient when entering and exiting the car. A small price to pay for such grippy seats. Sound System-Don't be fooled by the BOSE logo. It's a decent system for it being stock, but don't expect to be blown away.

An excellent choice for those looking for a car with a great mix of sport and comfort. The RSX takes the best attributes of the Integra and adds a dose of civility. I've found that it's an excellent car for the price. When you feel the need to fling the car through canyon roads, the car gets down to business. When you’re out doing errands, it’s able to act calm and reserved.

Strength:

Solid all-around. Spunky engine, clean interior. Great gas mileage.

Weakness:

Headlights must be turned off manually. A little bumpy (hey it has a sports car suspension, so that's expected). Blindspots are numerous.

Great car for the money. If you are looking for a sports car or small coupe with big-time performance at a reasonable price, this car has it all. Engine runs like a dream, with great gas mileage. Interior is comfortable, leather is so fresh and so clean. Auto-climate control is awesome. Sunroof is great, very quiet. Great acceleration even with automatic tranny. Freeway on-ramps are fun again.

Strength:

Cool body style, interior looks updated and not like those cheesy 1980's Mustang looks, no maintenance issues after 18 months, 6 speed close-gear is tight, 6 cd in-dash changer is convenient, Type-S gives you leather, extra HP, sunroof and Bose system that is a great value.

Weakness:

For having a Bose system, the bass should be a lot better. The wheels should also be 18".

If you're young and want a sports car that looks cool, chicks dig and don't want to blow a lot of cash... this is the car for you!!

6 gears gives a nice kick in every gear. 200hp in a small engine thats light is nice. Interior is well designed and very flashy looks more expensive. Handles like its on rails, aggressive body style. 6 cd changer is nice too. 4 airbags. Lots of torque.

Weakness:

Headlights are bright but they dont extend very far. rich base sound system needs more base. body feels weak not solid (if you knock on it it feels like the body will dent). Rims are small they should atleast be 18's.

All in all Great car for the money. Good fuel economy, gear ratio, and nice interior and exterior looks.

Strength:

At-speed acceleration. This car can go from 55-100 mph very easily. My favorite thing to do it get it up to 60 mph, drop it into 3rd gear, and gun it. It blasts off. The very ergonomic and thoughtful interior. Reliability is tops. Just give it gas, oil, and washes. Braking is excellent. The ladies dig it. The sound system is nice, but even better if you put two 10" subs in the back (still has decent trunk space).

Weakness:

You might become overzealous about testing its potential. Everybody (and I mean everybody) wants to race you. The low end torque seems to be its only noticeable downfall. You won't be the best off the line, but you will definitely blow some doors off when you get it up to speed.

I had a good idea of what I was getting into when I bought this car. Previously, I was driving an Integra, V-Tec coupe. The RSX-S has the best combination of features for the money. You can tell the designers really knew how to fill a budget. I like how the console is aimed at the driver, the seat leaves room for shifting, the buttons and knobs are nicely oriented, the trunk has plenty of space, the gas mileage is reasonable, the clutch is not too hard or soft, the red lights at night (easiest color to see in the dark) and I can rev it to just under 8,000 rpm. It is good and bad that you cannot tell how fast you are going. As long as the road is smooth, the ride is very smooth.

Strength:

Uncommon mix of ample power and great gas mileage. Interrior is simple; gauges, switches, buttons and knobs all placed exactly where they should be.

Weakness:

Large blind-spots. This weakness is compensated for in the (seemingly) large rearview mirrors.

I honestly believe there is no better car for the price of this Acura. It has outstanding performance, great looks and a simple, functional interrior. I have measured the gas mileage and consistantly reach 33 miles per gallon.

Interior Design & Luxury Amenities Exterior Design Acura's TLC and Service Acceleration

Weakness:

No Homelink or center console. No Exterior Temperature Reading. Stereo could be better. No Navigation Package.

I wanted to find a nice, luxury sports coupe for about $25K. I wanted auto climate control, leather, moonroof, and all of the typical luxury features you expect along with high performance. I didn't think I could get all this for under $25K, until my frat brother told me about the Acura RSX. I thought I would have to spent $10K more for what I got in this car. The seats are comfortable, the climate control is accurate, and the exterior design is cool. Sure it is a little bumpy, but the acceleration is good even for the automatic I have. I recommend this car to anyone.

Strength:

- Acceleration - Top Speed (138 mph) half way through 5th gear, don't actually know what it will top out at - Handling - Interior - Styling

Weakness:

- Sound system could use some power - Get a short shifter for the 6 speed, it really helps

My original intention when looking for a car was the BMW M3, maybe an S4, and if I found the right price a Boxter S. I hadn't even glanced at RSX's thinking "it's just a hopped up Civic." Boy was I wrong. The Acura RSX Type S is one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven. It handles smoothly, its handling is razor sharp, its acceleration is incredible and the interior is flat out gorgeous. People regurly compare my car to a BMW or Audi despite the fact that I paid a fraction of the price. I actually was looking to spend almost triple the amount I paid for this car, but the Acura was so wicked I had to 'settle' for paying only $16,000. The Sound system is top knotch though I wish they had plugged a bit more power into it. Specifically the bass, it sounds nice but it punches very weakly.

Model Reviewed: RSX Type-S

Strength:

Interior quality (including leather trim), Nice paint, great handling, smooth shifting. Vtec was nice for the 3 seconds it lasted- though it took forever and a day to kick in, nice rims, Great quality in most areas.

Weakness:

Lagging acceleration (before 6000 rpms), Hideous design (overly edgy lines yet wedgy in the front, turtle-like from a profile view, chopped off in the back), Odd interior layout, no center console, absolutely 0 torque (took all the fun out of the drive), whiney engine, poorly insulated (more road noise than a focus), add-ons like a spoiler or an aero kit will really jack up the already overpriced $24k pricetag.

A couple months ago, a friend and I decided to take a new RSX-S for a test drive, since he is most likely getting one. I had never liked the styling, though. Very wedge shaped, and just ugly from all angles. So, the dealer handed me the keys to a red Type-S. When I got in, I was very impressed with the interior quality, I had my doubts because all Hondas prior to 2000-2001 had some of the CHEAPEST interiors i had ever come across. Nonetheless, everything in the RSX felt great. However, the seats were hard and had you sitting in a very upright, almost 90 degree position. I have a tiburon GT and the seats are very comfortable, sitting low, with the perfect blend of support and comfort. Anyway, the seats weren't totally bad, they looked nice with supple leather trim. The design of the interior was very odd though. The center dash seemed to be suspended, rather than flowing down into the center console, wrapping around you. This made it uncomfortable, as everything felt far away, and you had to bend to switch anything. However, I liked the steering wheel, and the shifter was great. On the actual drive, I thought I was going to be blown away. Everyone says they are so fast, off the line. I've got news...it isn't. Yeah yeah, 0-60 in 6.7 secs, impressive, but you don't feel any power until around 6000 rpms, which is a sham! I guess I am just used to powerful V6 engines with, you know...Torque! People on this site are talking about torque steer. Yeah, torque steer, in a Honda, heh, that's a good one! Besides, I love the 5-spoke 16's. Though, the driving style just wasn't me, that doesn't make it any less of a car. It is still a finely built machine.
