Strength:

Lots of head and leg room in the front.
Back seats lay flat for transporting luggage or purchases.

Weakness:

I live outside the city limits and drive approx 60mls round trip daily to work. Fuel economy was the selling point for me and I have been left greatly diappointed. I feel that the MPGs on this model are over rated.

Looking for Fuel economy ... this is NOT your vehicle. This is a good driving car for it's size. Driver's area is very comfortable.

Strength:

Handles extremely well in wintery & wet conditions!
Gas mileage great!
Comfortable!

Weakness:

Windows leak a bit of air (common with Chevy cars)
Side mirrors whistle when the wind blows.
Extremely easy to speed.

I have had this car for 1.5 years and it has 40,400 miles on it. I have not had any problems with the car. I get right at 34 mpg all around with regular unleaded gasoline and if I use super unleaded ethanol blend gasoline then I get 44 mpg. I love this car, looks great inside for being a cheaper priced car. It is small but perfect for just two people. Stereo is great as well. A/C and Heat work extremely well and very fast. OH, and handles extremely well in wintery and wet conditions (especially with the HOLD button). A few down sides is that because the car sits up higher it makes it seem like you are driving slower than you actually are (mine doesn't have cruise control) so it makes it very easy to speed. The side mirrors whistle when the wind is blowing. The windows leak a bit of air but this is common in most Chevy vehicles. If you aren't use to a 4-cylinder then this car is going to feel like it hardly isn't moving when you try to take off at a stoplight. I am car shopping though, not because I don't like the car, just because my husband and I are looking to start a family and need a bigger car.

The heater seems to warm up really fast, which is a plus for the winter (though haven't had it that long yet). Styling both interior and out. Flexibility of rear.

Weakness:

Poor gas consumption. Best attained yet was 39mpg (imperial) average around 36, primarily highway (about 95%). Cornering on the highway, especially when windy causes white knuckles and severe pucker factor ...

A cute little car. Fairly comfortable, nice features. Poor gas mileage and scary handling. I like the car, but wish now that I had leased instead of purchasing. That way I could have swapped the lease out to someone else now that I'm away from home, and wouldn't have to take a bath on the sale.

Well... It gets good gas mileage. So far I have had to have the cd player replaced... wires got loose in the struts and they said they fixed it, but it still makes a squeeky noise... there are rattles in the driver door! It's really cute though. Mine has 30000 miles and I'm trading it in for an 04 Mustang... so we'll see

The nice interior for the money, some parts look cheap but it also make the car have some charm that way. The gas mileage is great. I get 27-29 in city, and have averaged 33 mpg on the highway on long trips. The car is easy to do maintenance yourself on and you can get the 3000 page service manual to help you do the work yourself on most things. The manual costs $135 and you can get it from Chevrolet. You can't beat the price on the car either. This car according to consumer reports gets the same mileage as the Mini Cooper. I wuld agree wih them on the mileage.

Weakness:

Not a car for large families, or for use in areas with heavy above average snowfall. The ground clearance is very low, and the car will get stuck in deep snow. However, it is front wheel drive and I have done very well here in Iowa in the moderate snowfall we have and have never got stuck. Also, it made it up the icy hills I have near where I live. So if you live where the streets are not pllowed with heavy snowfall, this isn't the car for you. it has done well for me in the snow, but in the Northern United States it might be a problem. My roads are plowed regularly.

I have 30K miles on the car and overall has been a good car. The only bad thing that has gone wrong with it is that the digital clock on the dash stopped working and flickered. Also the stereo system cut out somtimes. Both of these problems were under warranty and corrected by Chevy for me at the dealership. They gave me a whole new stereo and clock at no charge, and were very nice about it. The car is more than roomy. Yhe transmissio can be jerky sometimes when shifting gears. Overall it is a quiet car to drive. I have the hatchback and the seats fold down and you can get alot of cargo in it like that. It is a great car for errands around town. I love it on the highway now with high has prices and most people that now I have it are envious of the mileage. I am happy with the car so far at 30K miles. It is fun to drive and zip around in.

Strength:

Fuel economy (I average 35mpg highway), price, interior room, thoughtful placement of accessories. Decent handling, good front visibility for taller drivers, headroom, legroom.

Weakness:

Stock Delco AM/FM radio:
But don't bother updrading to LS or LT if you just want economy transportation. Have aftermarket speakers and a head unit installed later. It is cheaper and sounds better too. Otherwise the car is fine.

I was initially unimpressed by the design of this vehicle. This is probably why I never went to the showroom to check one out. However, I happened to rent one on a vacation, and I was very pleased with the car (LS, auto). So, I decided to take another look. The overall package: price, fuel economy, and comfort are all there. This car is nothing fancy, but give you more then you expect.

It's hard to know how long this car will hold up. However, for $9,600 after tax, title, reg., this car will probably be long paid off before I even have to ask that question.

fuel economy, roomy interior (6'4" son fits comfortably in the back seat), good stereo, excellent handling, lots of power and pick up (driving daughter complains it's too easy to speed!)

Weakness:

hatch back is tinny and doesn't close well.

So far I love this car. I've gone from a 4wd pick up to the aveo and love the way it handles. It's a 5 speed with no options other than air and the mp3 player. Just starting to use the air and am noticing a lot of noise when it's running. I've got 25,000 km on it. The engine light kept coming on and the dealer found an electrical problem which they fixed very quickly. No other problems. I get about 500 km out of a tank of gas. I'm hoping that improves now that it's broken in.

Strength:

I believe this vehicle to be very responsive. [manual]. Interior space [minus trunk space] nice. I am over 6 feet tall, my wife is 5/10" and we can easily fit 3 of our kids in the back seat comfortably for short trips. [one of my kids is over 6 feet tall] Fuel efficient, although I'm hoping through further break in it will improve. Dash layout well thought out. Cup holders easy to access [Starbucks!] Interior quality much much much better than I would have thought for a car in this price range. I actually think the fake carbon fiber arm rest/handle is appealing.

Weakness:

I own the hatchback. The exterior appearance with the standard tire/wheels etc makes this car look a bit like a rollerskate minus the bow on the hood. I drove the car straight to a tire/wheel shop, tint shop and stereo store and improved the appearance ten fold. I get a ton of compliments on the appearance of this 'once somewhat ugly' car. If Chevy put a little more thought into the small touches this would be a very appealing car at first sight. No trunk/storage space. Well.. a small amount for a weekend travel bag and/or a few grocery bags. But dont' think you can take a big trip with all your luggage. Handling isn't all that great on roads that have grooves in them [created by studded tires].. although the low profile performance tires I put on it could have easily taken away from the softer handling. Paint is thin/weak. Within the first thousand miles I have several rock chips in the paint that have gone all the way to the metal. I have other Chevy products [suburban, truck, motorhome, etc] that has a much higher quality paint and after years of driving do not show any chips from small rocks. Blind spots.

This car is a great car for commuting and/or short trips. Economical, easy to navigate around town, parking garages, solid, fun fun fun to drive. I sold my Land Rover [10 miles to the gallon] to buy something more economical without compromising the fun part of driving. I've seen some reviews recommending these for college students or family's on a limited budget..etc. I'm none of those. I have a very solid income, years away from college, w/family, couple homes, etc.. anyway.. point is.. this is not a car for limited budgets so much as it is a car for somebody who wants economical transportation without compromising everything one would believe you would have to to achieve that.

Hyundai accent: Interior quality of aveo blows the accent away. The interior noise of the Aveo is much much much quieter. Aveo handling about the same. The power of the accent is a bit better. Blind spots are non existent with the accent. Mileage of the accent vs. aveo relatively close. I had several small problems with the accent where I have had non so far with the Aveo. Warranty on the accent by far exceeds the Aveo. Cost of accent a couple thousand dollars less but I honestly believe that you are getting over 2000 less in overall quality.

Weakness:

Fan motor makes little whinning noise - I Hear that this is common on this model. Radio reception especially AM is terrible. I currently use my XM Myfi to override this weakness.

I purchased this car in August 2005. I currently have 8500 miles and it is performing pretty good. I have kept up with all services and I am impressed with its handling. I bought this vehicle for it's fuel economy, and the room it provides. It's definately not a car for someone who wants to drive a sports car. This is purely a car for the penny pincher! It took about 2500 mi to obtain the best fuel economy. Which is fairly standard. I also purchased this vehicle because of the safety crash ratings that were conducted. It had 4 stars for frontal and rear. So far its a keeper!

Strength:

Structure, ride, interior room, style and design

Weakness:

soft handling, lifeless steering, questionable durability of minor components

We've seen commentary on the handling and driving position in the Aveo, so check out my frame of reference: I have one on loan 'cause my knuckle-dragging Z-28 is making a funny transmission noise. So I'm used to sharp response, immediate performance, and a pretty laid-out driving position. Tells you where this review is going, right? Not so fast. Fact is, I'm rather beguiled by this winsome little rebadged Daewoo. The first thing to strike me was the interior quality - not surprising, considering the mouse fur upholstery and Igloo cooler-grade plastic I'm used to. And yet, even though most of what you touch in the Aveo is hard, it's nonetheless smartly designed and decently assembled. Of note are the cheeky little touches like the faux-carbon fiber trim and the chromed auto shift gate that does a passable imitation of its counterpart from a mid-'80's Mercedes E-class. And with its tallish stance and proportioning, headroom and legroom abound. The tweedy seat fabrics, though inexpensive, look as if they'll wear well, and the full headrests lend a decidedly plush look to the rear seats. So far, so good. Rolling underway brings you an interesting blend of sensations. Again, you have to consider my basis for comparison, but the first impression left on me was how solid and substantial the car felt. It tracks very straight and surrenders little by way of tinniness and rattles. The ride seems exceptionally smooth for the car's size, though you see a bit of a price paid for that in cornering prowess. Body lean in a modest curve was pronounced enough that I felt chastened against pushing it any further, and the steering is light and devoid of feedback - rather unlike the '96 Neon that remains my fwd benchmark of steering feel. Because the car feels so much heavier than its 2400 pounds, I would have guessed it to have more than its 103 horsepower. The 4-speed automatic's gearing seems short enough to offer decent response from a stop, though the a/c drags noticeably on the engine. Still, considering what how this car is scraping against the bottom of the price-point barrel, I'd say it's not at all bad. The mix of options takes some getting used to - usually, when I'm pushing buttons for the windows, there's a button for the locks, too. I also noted that the gas cap was apparently broken in 29,000 miles of use. On the other hand, ItalDesign did a pretty nice job with the dimensions this car dealt them, making for uncommonly smart sheetmetal in this price range. So, will this neatly turned-out piece of practicality drive me to musclecar apostasy? Pending transmission repairs aside, not quite. But might it work as a nice little commuting appliance as the Flying Mullet rolls into its dotage as a tuned weekend toy? Quite possibly. College students looking for that first new set of wheels, thirtysomethings seeking a practical second car, seniors looking for economical commuting, even small families on entry-level budgets might all find a certain appeal in the Chevy Aveo. As briskly as it's selling, many others apparently have already.
