Strength:

Price? I know its a cheap car, better milage then other american cars, but not as good as some imports.

Weakness:

handling, this car handles TERRIBLY and puts the driver in a weird possition regarding the chassis. And FORGET about passing any one ever again. Its REAL easy to get this car up to 5000 RPMs with out trying. And I 5000 rpms (close to red line) this car still isn't going any where. Maybe a manual would perform better (I perfer them), but I heard the gear box is rough, on the manuals of this car.

I am not impressed by the quality of this car. I understand its an economy car, but that said, here is my review. I enjoy small cars, but this car feels like a plastic box. It feels like driving a tiny mini van, it handles like a mini van, it places you up over the front wheels like a mini van. I don't understand why american compacts are getting small, tall and narrow, rather then short and wide. These tall narrow cars give you head room, but handle like crap! Add some 13" pizza cutter wheels, and its not exactly sports handling. For the size of this car, it does NOT get good gas milage. It supposed to get 35 high way, and 27 city I believe. My larger, 4 door geo sedan, which has more pick up (YES a GEO has more pick up) more room, and with 174,000 miles on it (!) and it STILL gets the same, or better has milage as this car new (the one I am driving as 6K on it). This car feels cheap (and this comes from some one who commutes a GEO people!) and I doubt it would last a 174,000 miles and still be going strong (I am in a rental because my car was rear ended).

Nission Tendy. This is an AWASOME subcompact sold in europe. I want one! whish they sold them over here. Besides that, as for small cars, I have driven a ford focus (can't even compare the two, focus blows this car out of the water). And a high milage Geo Prizm (looks like a corolla), the GEO out performs the Aveo every way.

Model Reviewed: Aveo/base model 5 door

Strength:

Quality of build, fit and finish. Overall quality fine, drive train does as it should, drives well, stops well, and is a relatively quiet car for a small car.

Weakness:

Have found none, if you consider that the car is a small economy car.

I have found my Aveo 5 Door purchased new to be of a higher quality than other new vehicles purchased in the past.I have always found small items to be corrected at first dealer visit, if I made it that far. This car has no faults for correction, it is built right and runs right. Although it is a small car it doesn't feel as a small car when driving it. I had a GEO Metro in the past and it drove as a small car with engine noise, road noise etc. This car is a quieter car and handles well, it has acceptable gas mileage ( 32+ mpg US with automatic) acceptable acceleration, braking, ride and overall comfort for a small car. I am a retired GM worker with 38 1/2 years of service with GM and applaud GM on the introduction of the Aveo, I think you finally have a small car for the people to buy and enjoy!!! Naysayers haven't driven this car, drive one and find out what you have been missing!

Strength:

Okay, I do give it a thumbs up on the mileage. We have averaged 28 miles per gallon.

Weakness:

Choppy ride on the highway. Additionally, there are blind spots gallore. With the rear seat head restraints in place it's difficult to see out the rear window.

The car has been an absolute nightmare. Witin one week of ownership the paint on the front bumper started to peel. Within one month a fuel injector went bad. Shortly after another injector went bad. Today, as I write this post another injector has gone. the car has spent more time at the dealer than on the road. There are only 3200 miles on the car and it was bought brand new in June!

None...and don't plan on it!
