Strength:

For the time era was great looking car. Dependable and had plenty of get up and go for the Autobahn.

Weakness:

Make A/C standard option was ok in Germany. When I came to the states was to hot to drive.

Great starter car. Pretty gutsy for a 4 cyl. Mine was black and very stylish. I really enjoyed the use of this car. I would recomend one to some one starting out.

Model Reviewed: 2.2L RS

Strength:

It is a quite reliable car,I never had and real troubles, unless I caused them (and in that case *any* car would break). The interior is nice and roomy for 2 people on the 2 door coupe I have, but anyone in the back seat had better be small. It gets great gas mileage as long as the air conditioning is off and you drive nice. (I.E. Beating the guy next to you at the stop light in full throttle HURTS the economy drastically) It is also very easy to install an after market sound system- only minimal tools are required to replace all the speakers. The fact that the rear seats fold down is also a plus, and increases the already nice sized trunk even more.

Weakness:

I can complain about how 'not cool' the car is almost as much as I can talk about how cool it is. The 2.2L has some power, but not much. The suspension is terrible, along with the 14" steel rims. Being a '92, it is begining to rust, but I take good care of it and park it in the garage to slow that down. I do sand down the problem spots, esp. around the kicker panels of the door and hood, so it does not look to bad if you stop it before the rust gets to far into the metal.

I paid $3,500 for the Cavalier, and I think I paid a little to much for it, but it has been very reliable. I put 25,000 miles on it in 1 year, and the battery was the most expencice thing I had to replace. For an econobox, it is a great car, but if you want performance, speed, or sporty looks your going to have to look someware else. It has 110,000 miles, and as long as the normal maintence is done, it should last me well into the 200,000 mile range, I have friends with similar Cavaliers the still run great with that many miles.

'94 Saturn SR-2 - This car kicks ass. Highly recommended for a used car, and looks great! It never rusts! Go plastic power!!!

Its pretty, great brakes, good for 16 year olds who want a cheap car (im 16 and this is my first car), its really peppy, i love it.

Weakness:

Nothing yet!

I think this car is great for someone looking for a cheap car. i got mine for 12,000 dollars. This is my first car so of course im going to love it, but it really is a great car. I've been driving my moms grand am for a while and the cavalier is a better car. I personally think its better in every way. If your reading this and you are looking to buy a car, this is the car for you! This interior looks great (the nice neutral color) and the outside is sweet (A cool dark blue color). BUY THIS NOW!

Model Reviewed: 2Dr Coupe/ 4Dr Sedan

Strength:

Everything. Both cars that I have owned have been great. Of course I've given them a few modifications myself. Living in Wichita, you can't have a stock vehicle. 2Dr handles great with the performance parts that I've added. No factory sound. Everything was gutted and I installed own stereos. Plenty of room in both vehicles.

Weakness:

Not a thing. I think the main problem that these other idiots are having is that they don't take care of their cars. Chevrolet has put together a great package in both cars and these people need to learn how to take care of their vehicles. Neither of mine have a scratch on them. Both run as good if not better than the day they were bought.

Again, let me say that the people who say that the Cavelier falls apart are full of crap and need to learn how to take care of their vehicles. My 2 Caveliers have never been garaged and neither have a scratch of them. That's taking care of your car. I spend at least 5 hours a week per car, cleaning and caring for my car. Besides the scheduled oil changes and tire rotations I have had no problems with the cars.

Eric

Strength:

* Price... (affordable, factory rebate, additional rebates are done probably through the company you work for if they hold stock in GM like Hughs Aircraft, etc.!)
* Exterior... (compact and cute with a little spoiler in the back)
* Engine... (very strong, 2.4L, 16V, I4, 150hp)
* Ride and handling... (nice stiff ride with upgraded after-market alloy wheels, nice turning radius, responsive acceleration and ABS breaking)
* Interior... (good stock sound system w/CD player, interesting sports seats, easy access controls, fold down back seat to extend truck space, grocery net, and 4 cup holders)
* Tires... (great BFGoodrich touring tires, came with my package)
* Driver/Passenger Safty... (airbags, hope you never have to use them)
* Milage... (good gas milage, averaged out to be 25 miles per gallon)

Weakness:

* Noise... (engine plus wind, have to crank the volume up to hear the music)
* AC... (weak air conditioning, contribute more noise to cabin)
* Air... (lack micron-filter for cabin air, cabin takes in 100% of the exhaust fume from the car/truck/bus infront of you)
* Interior (cheap cloth, well, what can I say, you get for what you pay for)
* Radio Antenna... (not retractable, its a nightmare going through gas station car wash)
* Wheels (although the stock steel wheels with plastic wheel covers absorbe much shock vibration from the pot-holes on asphalt pavement and or the freeway cement seams, it did not please my eyes at all. By upgrading it with multi-spokes alloys, it adds much more personality to the car's attitude, styling, and road handling)
* Breaks... (rear drum breaks maybe sufficient, but 4 wheel disk breaks are better)
* Options... (lack-of in many catigories such as leather interior, 4 wheel disk break, etc., but I suppose if you want to put more money into a Cavalier, you might as well buy Japanese)

If you decide to purchase an American compact automobile, I would highly suggest the Cavalier 2.4L, dispite the fact it is assembled in Mexico, all parts are American though... I think. I believe what attracted my attention was the Cavalier is quite affordable (you must find out about Chevrolet's many rebates), acquired through-out the states as the most used rentals, and probably the most dependable american automobile in its class since it is used as rentles. You do get for what you pay. I use my Cavalier for commuting between work and home, approximately 15,000 a year. An extended warrentee can be purchased for an extra $1000 or so (from 3yrs/36,000 to 7yrs/70,000).

Model Reviewed: RS, RS

Strength:

-Price (can't argue that)
-Decent transportation

Weakness:

-Weak engine
-Terrible handling and ride
-Cheap in general
-Poor reliablity

Leave it to GM to make a car, let it sit unchanged for 20 years, and then in redesigning it build another car that manages to suck just as much. Some how, they manage to combine an uncomfortable ride and bad handling (while most manufactures try and make cars with a good ride and good handling). The base engine is weak; the pontiac sunfire professes to be sporty but is nothing but an american econobox with a spoiler. The seats are uncomfortable; the styling is questionable. Japanese economy cars are more reliable and better designed, although I wouldn't buy an economy car anyhow (I have driven friend's). Amazingly, GM continues to build massive engines that put out less horsepower then smaller japanese engines (When I see GM build a 2.0L four that puts out 240hp, I'll be impressed.) Until then, they keep building large, uneconomical engines that make even their economy cars weigh in at nearly 3000 lbs. (Sadly enough, their sports cars weigh even more!). I would only recommend a car like this to someone who needs basic transportation at any price. People looking for sporty cars, don't let it fool you!

Strength:

Great cassette/stereo system. Low maintenance (gas, oil changes, wiper refills, air filter). Very good mileage (combination city/highway) 34 w/o AC, 30 with. Sleek/sporty appearance. Peppy 4cyl which is actually fun to drive due to the very adequate suspension. No major or minor repairs thus far.

Weakness:

Mostly picky stuff. Minor wind noise from the weather stripping around the doors. Audible automatic trans shift P-> D or R but no problems at all while driving. Sticky power door lock switch.

Paid $8,000 from brother's estate so I wasn't attempting to get it at a bargin. For the price I have no complaints to speak of except for minor complaints mentioned above. Currently has 46K and appears to be a well built car. It drives very nicely, ride is good, reliability is great thus far, comfortable, adequate rear seat room, strong climate control, fantastic stereo, higher gas mileage, lower maintenance. I have to admit for a smaller (compact) car, it performs better than I imagined. I'd recommend it for 1-4 people, 5 if it's a child. Very good value.
