Strength:
Great gas mileage for small car, fairly roomy for a 2 door, lots of trunk space, loves the freeway here, easily gets up to 120 mph with little or no rattling...
Weakness:
My floor leaks, can you believe it? Haven't figured this problem out yet, I don't have the money to pay for it right now. Muffler makes a loud rumbling sound, was fixed by drilling a hole in it and putting in a bolt =) This is my first car, and I think it's very beautiful...however I made a mistake. In buying my first car, and being a girl, I was going for looks, and what other perks it had...I wasn't thinking about the saftey features or any of that. It's a nice looking, cheap car with a sunroof, cd player, all the works that I thought would be great! Similar Products Used: First car - no *real* comparisons... |

Strength:
Car is faster than most cars in its price range. 2.4 ltr, DOHC, 16 valves. I got the auto, 5 speed is even faster and can be had for a little over 15K. 0-60 in 7.7 , 1/4 mile in 15.9. Ive seen good drivers get low to mid 15's with some simple bolt ons. Interior is big room is spacious, rear fold down seats give trunk lots of space. The car flat out looks good, much better than the base model Cavaliers. Aftermarket support is good and growing if you want to spice up your car a bit, although not as big as the Honda's and Toyota's.
Weakness:
ABS brakes are too twitchy, and sound bad when engaged. Suspension is OK, solid rear twist beam, no IRS..the whole car rock when you hit big potholes and bumps. Otherwise the ride is smooth and comfy. Interior is a bit plasticy, but what do you expect for 15k? Seats are comfy for short rides but not for long trips. Great car for the price. Although not as refined as newer engines, the "Quad 4" derived 2.4 liter engine is strong and has more torque than anything in its class. 150 hp and 155 ft/lbs. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic is a more refined car, with much MORE aftermarket support, but I you have to get an Si for any kind of spirited driving. Si runs about 2K more than a Z24. Ford Focus, too weak and slow until the SVT version comes out, but then your looking at 18K. Toyota Celica GT, still more expensive and not as quick. All in all, probably the fastest little car you can buy for 15K. |

Strength:
looks, great gas mileage, cheep cost
Weakness:
in the stock form, its pretty slow. Head gasket, bottom of doors rusting. The rear bumper support always rusts through and becomes very unsupportive on this generation. I had to replace mine when i installed the body kit. The semi-flimsy interior. The plastic trim around the head unit, tneds to break easily. It took me $4000 to get it to its current status.... http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/skate11/cod/cod.html Ok, my mom purchased this car from the dealer way back in 1990. It was a brand spanking new 91 rs. Some basic stuff wemt wrong on it, but it was all covered by the dealer. When the car hit about 76k miles, the clutch and head gasket went. The body was also all dinged up, so my mom decided it would be a good project car for me to learn on. My friends and I pulled it into my garage adn ripped it all apart. First we put in a new clutch. Then after that went smoothly, we replaced the head gasket and had the head machined out (took us 2 trys to get it back together right). ok, now that it was running good, i wanted it to look good, so i bought a supra style spoiler and got some ground effects from a totaled cavalier z24. I painted them and put em on. It still looked funny because it had the crappy black rubber bumpers and the body was still dinged up, so i ordered a very aggressive body kit from fx designs. In the mean time, the water pump, starter, fuel injector, and a mess of other mechanical things went wrong, but were all fixed. Once the body kit came in the mail, i decided i needed a new hood, because the old one was dented up. I found a fiberglass z24 hood with air scoops. I bought it along with a new drivers side door to get rid of the rust at the bottom. My friends and i ripped all the body panels off and did some major body work. I installed the body kit and put the car all back together along with some new rims, high performance exhaust, etc. Now it just needed some paint. I liked its red color, so i got it painted a slightly deeper red. It turned out pretty good. I think I have all the car's bugs worked out after investing over $4000 and hundreds of hours of work. I have pictures posted at http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/skate11/cod/cod.html I am currently selling it, incase you're interested. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Acceleration, Daytime Running Lamps, Roomy
Weakness:
I think I got the Lemon on the lot. The problems began soon after I got it and the warranty was not good enough to handle the problems. Hear's just a run thru of some of the problems: Brakes replaced twice because the axle is warped which in turn lead to fastly worn tires; many electrical problems (fuses going out), horn stopped working, radio resets itself in middle of driving; alternator; had ignition fixed twice, 4 batteries (and no I didn't leave my lights on except once), brake light has to be replaced frequently; rear view mirror fell off; glove compartment latch broke off; cigarette lighter came out (holder and the wires); loud popping sound in back; leaky trunk;power steering;-most of these things have had to be fixed more than once!-- way too many blind spots...you get the point. The car is very cute, sporty, and drives fast. That is pretty much where it ends. Similar Products Used: I think a yugo would have been better! |

The heater always worked well and was very hot.
Weakness:
everthing, 1.8 liter engine with 2bbl electronic feedback carb is the biggest piece of crap,I wouldn't be supprised if it didn't make 65 hp. suspension was harsh, interior was crusty and falling apart. I could go on and on. ugly, slow, never ran right. cooling fan would never work and the fan wasn't broke, it was in the wiring. Had to work on it all the time, oil filter was almost next to impossibe to remove along with the spark plugs but the worst was the ignition coil: what Idiot thought to put it under the intake manifold. It had no options except for a roof rack and some one installed a cruise control, this car had nothing, not even power steering. Similar Products Used: I now own a 91 dodge shadow that I bought for 500 dollars, put $500 worth of work into it and it would and will run all over that "crapalier". The shadow always starts in the winter runs like a top on the highway has plenty of power even for a 4 cylinder and most importantly(at least to me anyway) it is so easy to work on and maintain and parts are cheap and easy to come by, chevrolet sucks, long live mopar! |

Strength:
Well styled, roomy front seats, available with higher-end options at lower-end cost. For a 2.2L, I find that the car moves really well, in and around the city, and on the expressway.
Weakness:
Paint rubbing off of the stereo buttons; seatbelt fastener (which keeps the buckle up where you can grab it) defective; shift lever gets in the way of changing the radio station; cupholders block the climate controls; occasional odd noise from the vents; less-than refined ABS system. For a first new car, I have been satisfied with my Cavalier. At almost 14,000 miles, I have had no major issues, and I get a lot of nice comments from people who think its a sports car. Any complaints I have at this point are about small stuff (i.e. fit and finish issues) which I expected. It's not a Cadillac, or a speed racer, but who buys a Cavalier and expects that? This is supposed to be a car you trade UP from. Similar Products Used: I test drove all of the "starter" cars before I bought this. For the money, I have (knock on wood) reliable transportation that looks much better than a lot of the econoboxes available. |

The looks, with the tint all around.White paint. I panited the Z-24 in the molding red. 500KM to a tank(very good). 16" rims, Shes got some balls and will fly for a auto. handles great.Nice factory CD.
Weakness:
driver side power window doesnt work, i miss the 3.1l v6. needs a turbo. governer at 180km.she red lines at 5800-6000 but doesnt change to 2nd gear until over 7000( good and bad) I bought the car with a small fender bender, nothing too bad. So i painted the whole car except for the roof which was fine. I love the ground effects as well the power sunroof. This car is loaded to the tits except the power trunk.I love the 5 stars on her. I have yet to put any work into it beside s brakes and a mufler, and the usuall oil. The 2.3 quad 4 works hard for the power it produces. I enjoy the 3.1l V6. Similar Products Used: i had a 1991 beretta mint condition 65000 miles sold it 2 years ago and now wanting it back. The little cav will fly. |
