comfortable and spacious interior powerful 3.1 v6 engine lasts forever huge trunk

Weakness:

battery placement cup holders break easy and aren't placed very well

I got the car maybe four months ago. it's been running great ever since. i even ended up tinting the windows, putting rims on it, throwing a huge system in the monstrous trunk, and even putting a flowmaster on it. this is the nicest and smoothest ride i've had. plus the chevy 3100 engine lasts for a really really long time. i work at an autoparts store and i've witnessed people getting parts for this engine after it has 350,000 miles or more! the engine is very powerful for only being a 3.1 litre v6. and my car has not needed any work done to it after 120,000 miles. i will continue to drive this car until the day it burns to the ground.

Powerful 3.1 litre engine. Spacious Lots of trunk space Solid safe car Smoot ride Relatively quite engine Can seat 6 people in 4 door Lumina Decent stereo system, Good radio reception. Aircon and heating are quick and efficient on even the coldest and hottest days

Weakness:

cupholders battery placement

I purchased my lumina 3yrs ago and never had a problem until about last month, The intake gasket went out and that was about a 630.00 repair bill but other than that she been running GREAT, when I got her she only had 66,000 miles on her, now she has 110,175. My job as me on the road a lot and the Lumina gets outstanding gas milage ( 21 city 34 Hyw ), The interior is very spacious & well done as is the dashboard, The radio gets great reception altho you may want to replace the speckers. comfortable cruiser, trunk is big enough to fit a whole house and a bag of chips, powertrain is extremely reliable and adequately powerful. there are some small odd things about the car such as the battery and cup holder placement, Why GM desided to put a cup holder in front of the stereo controls and the battery underneath the windshield fluid container is be-on me. But other than that the Lumina is a very solid car. Overall the Chevy Lumina is a good Car,

Great speed. roomy, stylish. good on gas

Weakness:

Brake problems, windshield fluid hoses, oil leaks

I love my Lumina but a couple of weeks ago it took a crap. It stall and wouldnt start again. I have had it down in the shop for over 2 weeks and they cant pinpoint the problem. First it was the coil, next it was the sensor, then it was a wire connected to the engine causing a short, now the latest thing it is a lifter.... Go figure all I want is my car back. My car was a 2 door 3.1 very quick. very roomy, for people who dont think it is roomy , I have 2 car seats and a 8 yr old. Anyone out there with the same problems e-mail me. carla@jtsconstruction.com.

It is a very roomy, quiet running car and it is also great for road trips for the comfort and gas milage.

Weakness:

transmissions are poorly designed and the gasket problem is quite pesky. The moldings on the inside are not made to stand up to children. The car could use a little more power.

we purchased ourlumina 3yrs ago and never had a problem until about 6mos. ago. The fuel intake manifold gasket went out and that was about a 400.00 repair bill(not to mention the 6 oilchanges it took after the repair.) The car now has 88,000 miles on it and the transmission has to be rebuilt. The antilock system has a problem and theres a glitch in my windshield wipers. The door moldings are loose and falling off and the visor holder ripped out of the ceiling, also both of the cup holders have broken and fallen off. Not to mention the fact we had to replace the calipers on it.

Strength:

-Powerful 3.1 litre engine. More power with 3.8 litre -Spacious -Lots of trunk space (excluding the poorly designed trunk hinges that take up a lot of space in the trunk) -Solid safe car -Smoot ride -Relatively quite engine -Able to seat 6 people on 4 door Lumina editions -Decent stereo system, excluding the poor radio reception. -Aircon, heating, relatively quick and efficient on even the coldest and hottest days -Automatic night lights

Weakness:

-Poorly designed inside and out -cupholders -battery placement -interior fittings -Engine flaw -Trunk hinges interfare with cargo space -Only front disc breaks on base models -Cheap looking mirrors on pull-out sun visors -Breaks need replacement quite often -Old Engine technology

I am a typical person who likes the reliability and the design of Japanese cars. Previously owning a 1997 Honda Accord (V6 engine), I had crashed it and bought myself a brand new 1999 Lumina for its space. The quality of the Lumina is substantially lower than that of the Accord. Such as the battery and cup holder placement is very poor. Who puts a cup holder in front of the stereo controls and a battery underneath the windshield fluid container? The interior is poorly done as well. The side door moldings and the door itself have gone loose and the plastic fixture that holds the sun-visor in place snapped off from the ceiling. The most embarrassing thing is the decals/markings on the signal turner have faded away! I can now barely read anything on it such as the cruise control settings. Engine problems have occurred too at 55,000KM only! A common problem with Luminas is the leakage of engine coolant fluent caused by a broken gasket. That was an $800 CAD job. There is supposedly a hidden warranty for this flaw. During winter or an extremely hot day, the doors and trunk stick making it difficult to open. The front brake pads wear out quickly too making changes more often then average cars. The radio is another disappointing thing; the reception is poor as the antenna closely resembles a clothes hanger stuck on the car. I am disappointed that my Lumina (base model) only came with rear drum breaks as compared to all disc brakes on the Accord (higher models). Though this may seem like a long list of problems, they have actually occurred over the course of only 3 1/2 years which in my opinion is extremely poor reliability. The engine technology (OHV - Over Head Valve) is old compared to the newer more efficient DOCH and SOCH engines found in German /Japanese cars. The engine design/concept hasn't changed in 10 years and can still be found on newer cars such as the Impala. On a positive note, these engines produce a lot of torque at low RPMS compared to Japanese cars, which make them perfect for hauling things such as a trailer. They are considerably good for long trips, but the seats get uncomfortable after several hours of use. The 160hp on the base and LS edition is adequate, but is slow when going from 0 to 60mph (100km/h). I found that the 160hp Luminas can do 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds with an automatic transmission (I am not 100% sure about the credibility of that info - was found on a website). That is considerably slow compared to the average family car of 8 seconds (a V6 Oldsmobile Alero). When you stomp on the gas, the car SOMETIMES downshifts (goes to a lower gear)for more power, but when it doesn't I find the vehicle very slow. If your considering this car, I would strongly recommend upgrading the warranty package to at least 5 years/80,000km from the dealer such as I did. I found it came in handy a lot! Or if you do not want to bother with the hassle of returning your Lumina for service, you would be pleased to drive an Accord at around the same price(even a four-cylinder edition!). All in all, I would not recommend this car for the typical family who enjoys reliability and comfort whereas the power enthusiasts may enjoy the beefy 3.8 liter edition to spank those small Japanese cars on the roads. It is your choice. Choose wisely!

Powerful 3.8 V6 , roomy, quiet, and comfortable car as a good price.

Weakness:

Gas mileage in the teen's during city driving, heavy duty cloth in the police package.

Bought this Lumina because it has the 9C3 police package on it, meaning beefed up brakes, tranny, cooling, and the 3.8 V6. Currently has 56k miles. Car is solid, safe, and is quiet and smooth even at 100+ mph. My first car was a 95 LS 3.1 and after a major wreck I gained enough respect for Luminas to buy another as a daily driver. My other car is a Taurus SHO. Had a Bonnevilel for a few months but this Lumina has more character and better fit and finish. I think the 95+ Lumina is one of Chevy's best cars. Have had no problems thus far.

My car has it's own mind. I think it knows me, too. When there is something needs to be change like oil, etc, it tells me. I like that! My brakes are good and the console is very accessible to me when I'm driving. It's comfortable for me and my three children.

Weakness:

The room. My boyfriend is 6'1 and looks VERY tall in this car. The seats don't go back far enough for him when he has to drive it. The head room is for him is almost to short for him. It's comforable for five people, but with two car seats, there is bearly enough for my 12 year old. Makes me wish it was a SUV (by Chevrolet, of couse); No trunk access. I have to use my key in order to get in. Sure would be nice to press a button to open my trunk.

Since I've bought my car, it handles great! It runs very well on gas and very well on the road (long distance). My enjoyed herself when I let her borrow it when she went out of town. She stated that it handled very well. (She own's a Grand AM) Question: Why did U stop making them? All I want is more room, romote key entry, and access to my trunk.

Weakness:

nothing. This car is perfect, i wouldn't take a F50 or a Mclaren over it.

This is one bad z34. I have 3.4 liters of pure power and I put some flows on, when i stop the gas (which i don't have much) i'm glued to my seat. i love my car soo much that i even had a custom license plate made. It reads 1badz34. Sweet huh. I put some racing seats in and i have a chip on the way. I think UPS lost it though oh well. I still run my 1/4 mile in the low 9's. Every night i stick my erection in my new flowmasters and feel the rumble they make, it's sensational.
