Strength:

It gives you a wild roller coaster ride.

Weakness:

Do we even have to ask?

This nightmare was a gift from my parents. I was driving off to school one day when I heard a buzzing/squeaking sound coming from the breaks. Not knowing what to do I kept on riding, when I breaked to stop at a red light. When I let my foot off the break, I swear, the break FLEW OUT OF THE SOCKET!! Frantically, I tried to put it back in but it wouldn''t go. I started to trail down the street, I was up to 25MPH and I didn''t know what to do. I was going to try to run my car into a shrub but then the impossible happened...the left front tire dislodged and I saw it start rolling down the street, nearly missing a parked car. I managed to ram my car into the bushes but breaking my ribs in the process. Please don''t make the mistake I made.

It sure keeps you on your toes!

Weakness:

Go read the story again!!

OK, I got this car as a present from my parents; little did i know it would turn out to be a nightmare. Well as I was driving to school when I heard this buzzing sound coming from the brake..I wasn''t sure of what to do so I kept driving thinking that it was nothing. I went to press the break at a red light and when I let go to accelerate the car, THE ENTIRE BREAK POPPED OUT!! My car starting rolling, and the street was semi slanted downward so I rolled, picked up steam and found myself rolling at 25 MPH''s down the freakin street!! I couldn''t let it keep rolling so i decided to try to ram it into a nearby shrub when the left front tire flew off!! It rolled down the street almost hitting a parked car while I flew into the shrub breaking my ribs in the process. It was a mistake buying this car and I hope the guys on this site won''t make the same one I did!

Strength:

Plenty of interior space and very comfortable.

Weakness:

THE BRAKES!!!

I have had so much trouble with the brakes on this car. My parents bought the car in November of 1997 and by January of 1998, the front brakes had to be replaced. I also had to have the rotors and the front brakes replaced again in November of 2001. Now, the ABS light has come on the past 3 times that I have driven my car. I love the look of my car and the interior but I could do without all of these brake problems.

Strength:

Good interior room. Gas mileage good. Looks nice. Best thing is I don''t own it anymore....yea.

Weakness:

Mechanically a disaster.

I regret the day I first saw this car. Like many reviewers in this list I found that the brakes needed to be changed (pads, rotors, etc.) with about every other oil change. AC needed work about every six months, wiring to radio the same. Interior trim pieces would be found on the floor every now and then. Car was like a homing pigeon in that it liked to go back to the dealership for mechanical work. This went on until I got to 40. months and about 38K miles (just out of warranty) then bingo the coolant starts leaking from intake manifold into engine. About $600, neat! Front end was also making a scary grinding noise. At that point I gave up and took a beating on trade in, yeah it was not worth much, and got a new Maxima SE. So far so good.

Strength:

Excellent V6 engine, very good value for the price you pay. Nice standard features.

Weakness:

rattles and heating controls failures.

so far so good. Except for some noise coming from the front left of the car. The heating control only works in number 3 and on. ABS light comes on for no reason.

Strength:

Overall performance and value is as expected. Acceptable cost of operation and above average mileage. Excellent Delco sound system and climate controls. Leather seats are a nice feature in a vehicle of this class / price.

Weakness:

Rotors are inferior but may be turned twice resulting in approx. 45,000 mi. The OEM tires are substandard in brand as well as size. I upgraded to Cooper 225/60/15 but still would much prefer a 16" tire option. Interior has various rattles. Floor mats are wearing prematurely. Rear seat legroom is unacceptable for adults without the front seats moved forward.

I purchased this vehicle July 2001 with approx. 14,000 miles for business use. I have driven it over 20,000 miles in six months and it has been troublefree. Gas mileage on the highway remains in the high 20''s per gallon on regular unleaded. I did have to replace the original equipment tires at 34,500 and had the front rotors turned with the disc pads replaced at approx. 30,000 miles. Other routine maintenance has been limited to oil changes and wiper blade replacement. Minor problem occured when rubber piece below front bumper was lost to high curb.

Weakness:

i thought the car performes well overall and i have had no problems with it. It now has 42,523 miles on it

it is the best car that i have ever bought, it is so dependable. I traded in a ford tempo (what a horrible car), the malibu is much better

Strength:

The Malibu has a lot of power and interior room. It holds up well in an accident.

Weakness:

Brakes were definetly a problem at about 20,000. The rotors became warped and caused uncontrollable vibration when slowing down or coming to a stop on high-speed driving. My dealer investigated and said he found a recall on the rotors, siting poor material make-up for the cause of the warping. After changing the rotors and pads, it has been fine.

I have been over-all pleased with my Malibu. I bought the car new 3 years ago. I was recently rear-ended and was very impressed with the performance of the Malibu. While my car was only scratched on the bumper, the car that rear-ended me had major damage to the front end.

Strength:

Cheap to buy used (sorry all you new car fans!). Great pep and gas milage for a base 4 door sedan. Reasonable comfort.

Weakness:

Front Brakes. Heating-Air Conditioning-Ventilation system problems. Engine knocking. ABS sensor failures. Body parts alignment. Radio. Front Wheel bearings. Reliability, so always unpleasant if the trip is more than 50 miles or so from home. Engine may not start when warm. High repair costs because way too many repairs!

Seems that General Motors has gotten the products they deserve when forcing price reductions down their suppliers throats. This car is a reliability lemon. Ours was purchased used with about 25,000 miles on it. In the next 30,000 miles, front rotors (I usually get 120,000-140,000 miles on front brakes, various cars and sport utilities), heater fan resistor (only worked on 3-4-5), wheel bearings (never heard of wheel bearing failures on a front wheel drive car before!), ABS sensors and hard starting plague the car. The engine knocks like an old hay bailer when it''s cold (at least it starts good when cold), however I believe the piston slap story as it doesn''t use any oil, gets great gas milage - over 30 on the highway, and has good power for passing and normal driving, plus runs quiet when warmed up. Unfortunately, it has is very hard to start when warm sometimes, which prevents my wife from having any confidence in the car. The fuel tank pickup was replaced under warranty to correct this, but it didn''t help. The drivers door rubs on the front fender, removing the paint along the edge and rusting. The dealer seemed very anxious to avoid fixing anything he absolutely didn''t have to under warranty, but did replace the radio because the CD player quit working. They said the brake rotors (28,000 miles) and door alignment were my problem. I must have used the brakes and then stopped in a puddle, was the story, causing the rotors to warp! I guess you are just either 1. not supposed to use your brakes to stop if the roads are wet or 2. never use your car in the rain. Makes sense to me. I wish this tip was covered in the owners manual though, as the brake job is $500 at the Chevy dealer and judging by the shuddering I have again, needed every 25,000 miles or so. The blamed the door clearance problem on a collision. Funny that there is no indication the car was ever in an accident?

I would compare this car to a poorly set up Yugo. Cheap to buy, unreliable, and hard to sell. A poor value at any price.
