Strength:
Decent engine, roomy and comfortable.
Weakness:
Road noise, suspension makes excess noise. I bought this car used with 35,000 miles on it. I have mixed feelings about this car. I have had it for only 5 months, and I have had to replace a sensor, rebuild the alternator, both a bit pricy. It is a very comfortable car and provides a lot of space for multiple passengers. I do enjoy it overall, and won't be looking to get rid of it any time soon. Pretty good bang for your buck. |

Strength:
Has all the essentials at a low price. BUT all strengths are overshadowed by all the problems I've had.
Weakness:
Very CHEAP quality hardware. DO NOT buy the chevy malibu no matter what kind of a deal the dealer gives you ! You will have many headaches to come after the first three months of ownership. Spend the extra $4000 and get an Accord. Five of my friends who have accords have never had the problems I had with the Malibu and they have had their cars from 3 to 10 years. Strength:
A great car for the price, if you want an accord but don't want the big payments get a Malbu.
Weakness:
The tires that come on the car are terrible, when purchasing get the tires replaced before you drive it off the lot. Also the brake rotors have given me a lot of trouble, replaced or turned down 3 times in 38000 kms. Basically I think it is a good car for the money but there is virtually no resale value in comparison to the Accord or Altima. As a young guy I would like to see the stereo speakers upgraded and GM must find a way to eliminate the premature wearing of the rotors. The V-6 engine is peppy but with 4 grown men in the car you will certainly be able to tell it is working hard on the hills because your gas mileage will severly suffer. |

None!

Many! Wise advice. If you are even thinking about buying a Malibu, think again! My wife has had this car for about 2 years (6 cylinder version; leased it new), and has had nothing but problems with it. This car is a piece of garbage, period. The suspension constantly makes strange noises and the ride is very harsh. The electrical system is a joke. The car plain does not want to start from time to time (this happens quite often), and the turn signals either dont work, or blink very slowly. In addition, the dash lights dim and the instrumentation needles 'go haywire' (they flail wildly and pin at times) at times when the car is started/moving. The local Chevy dealer has examined the car many times over the 2 year period, and has found 'nothing wrong'!!! Can you beleive this?!?! So my wife is stuck driving a car that is dangerous (no turn signals) and subpar, to say the least. At this point, I just want to say we are through with American cars! My family has owned 9 throughout the decades, and ALL of them have given them considerable problems in comparison to Japanese or German cars that we've owned. This can even be documented if one opens up any issue of 'Consumer Reports' and reads ratings of cars. We are totally disgusted with Chevy, and would NEVER consider buying American again. It's a crying shame, but Detroit is doing this to themselves. Wake up Detroit. |

Strength:
I like the size, its very roomy and has a very large trunk.
Weakness:
Everything, havent had anything but trouble since the first month I bought it. I haven't had anything but trouble withthis car since I bought it. I cannot even name all the problems that I have had with it. It all started with the fuel pump, which I think was replaced 2 times. Then after they supposedly fixed that the cruise control wouldnt work because the cars RMPs kept jumping up and down. The windshield has a whissling noise coming from it when the wind is blowing. They were supposed to have resealed it. It still has this problem. The whole transmission was replaced because they told me that they found metal shaving in it. Before that they replaced all kinds of parts until they just finally replaced it all. I have had it in the shop so much that the service men hate to see me come in and they are rude to me when I do. The left headlight has a leak in it. They had to replace a bulb in the taillight when I had had it for only a week. All of these problems occured after owning it for only a year. Now my car has almost 50,000 miles on it and at around 36,000 miles I started having problems with the A/C. The fan kicks off and doesnt cool. It was a little to late by the time I finally noticed that it didnt need coolant anymore, and my warrenty had run out. There have been lots more problems that I cannot remember. In all it has been in the shop numerous times, at least 8 or more. I had been informed by a relative that GM had a recall on a part that had to do with the A/C. When I called my dealer they said that they hadnt heard of any recall. Now its out of warranty and I really dont know what to do know. I am going to call the dealer and ask them to fix it one more time and then go up the chain of command, but by this time I'll have 100,000 miles on it or have gotten anything but a Chevrolet. I highly DO NOT recommend this car to anyone. It has been nothing but trouble. Similar Products Used: None |
