Strength:
Everything..solid very camrylike..american v6 w 170hp (J code) ergonomic dream..radio htr shifter all OUTSTANDING design. interior room & trunk space!! Seamless automatic ...wow!!
Weakness:
After working w Ford then toyota directley I was a total import buyer..still believe they are incredible machines..(NOT FORD)!! YIKES. However for bang for the buck this "camry killer" is well worth the $$ Dont expect it to be a camry / accord , however dont expect it to be the typical plasticy gm fit & finish of old either,, ITS SOLID!! I am definatley more than pleasaed.. FYI get the v6, get the audio upgrade,..yes also get an ext warranty just incase.. It is domestic. If the rotors keep warping due to high heat, get aftermarket cross drilled rotors & matching pads, MAKE SURE that whenever tires are rotated etc the lugs get HAND TORQUED in a "Star pattern" and @ 100ft/lbs!!!!!!!!! or else the hubs warp!!! YIKES!!! GET THIS CAR! keep it washed and waxed like all domestics it stains easy.gas mileage is 26-30!! Owned for 9mos 37K everything already mentioned Similar Products Used: camry,accord,golf,jetta..close but consider $$$ dont buy any vehicle new espec a domestic!! YIKES..wait buy used @ 40-50% off. Expect a toyota you wont be pleased expect an exceptional american attempt at a toyota using import style, & philosophys w american attitude youll be happy espec for the bucks..remember no timing belt...exp 30 & 60k services all adds up!!! yes abs sensors suck..disable it and drive w/o its better that way. |

INITIALLY FEELS like a strong, quality/solidly built car, good powerful V6 engine that moves when I want it to
Weakness:
BUT THEN YOU OWN IT FOR A WHILE..... BRAKES/ROTORS, control arms, Rack & Pinion assembly, wind noise/whistle, intermittant ABS sensor problems, Intermittant Check Engine light We bought the car from Enterprise Rent-a-car, Sept 99, with 34K on it (got an extended warranty, BOY AM I GLAD THAT I DID), the problems started at 42K, yep you guessed it, brake rotors warped.. Chevy dealership said "no problem we'll just machine them & they'll be fine", suprise, suprise, 4K later, warped again, this time had to have them replaced to the tune of approx $300 (not covered by ext warranty), car goes a few more months...have to replace 2 of the tires... wind noise on windshield gets noticable, never traceable over the next few months...brought car in for 60k maintenance, had MONTH LONG ordeal with dealership trying to check out bad shifting transmission problem, & knocking noise from front left quarter (turned out to be bad control arm)... takes them TWO WEEKS (out of the month) to determine that the transmission problem is due to LOW TRANSMISSION FLUID!!!! while fixing the control arm issue, they did actually find a problem with my rack & Pinion assembly(known issue with malibu's there IS A SERVICE BULLETIN on a knocking noise from the Rack & Pinion assembly being loose)and replace the R&P, but in the process damage my ABS sensor on the front/right side of the car, and have to replace that... in the process of replacing the ABS sensor, then somehow manage to destroy the control module for the car alarm system, which they then have to replace as well. Less than a month after this, and only 10 months & 16K after replacing rotors, they warped again, needing replacement...again.... we've spent over $2000 in less than 2 years, and that is not including the $1500+ in covered Extended warranty work. Latest problem, check engine light came on due to a faulty air flow sensor, I try to get it checked out... Chevy Dealership said... oh sorry, can't look at your car today, how about in TWO WEEKS, as we are booked solid until then. (No doubt with other piece of crap Malibu's) Similar Products Used: We owned a 93 Ford Tempo for five years, and truly thought that we were "moving up" when getting the malibu. We've sunk MORE MONEY into this hunk O junk, in less than TWO YEARS, than we did in the FIVE YEARS that we owned the Tempo. |

The speed is good. I like the 3.1 V6 engine.
Weakness:
-water pumped has been replaced I will never buy a GM car again. They have nice toys but they don't hold up as good quality cars overall. Similar Products Used: '95 Ford Contour , It wasn't a flashy car but it ran nice and I didnt have all the problem that I listed above for the Malibu |

Smooth ride, comfortable, lots of power when needed.
Weakness:
FRONT BRAKES Nice looking, comfortable car. Lots of power when needed. Thats about all the good stuff I can say about this car. Since day one this car has been a headache. Thank God I leased this vehicle and didn't buy it. I think I will throw a party when I get rid of this headache. Since I have had this car (a little less than 2 years), I have had at least 3 full front brake jobs, rotors and pads. It could be more I give up keeping track. ABS light use to come on they don't know why and I don't think they care. Rubber around tail lights had to be repaired twice, was falling out. Plastic molding in trunk has popped out had to be fixed. Now when driving the car you can hear creaking coming from all corners of the car. From talking to other people, I think it is the strutt mounts. So know I have to take it in to get this problem fixed under warranty. ALL AS I HAVE TO SAY IS THANK GOD FOR WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
Air conditioning- what air conditioning?!! An old lady wheezing puts out more air! People in backseat ROAST!! Heating is no better, by the time it's warm enough you've reached your destination. The radio might be good if I could hear it above the road noise! Headlights were replaced 3 times. Upper and Lower control arms (front and back) replaced. Cold air whistles in from door handles. Alloys pit and corrode. The brakes squeak so bad you can hear me coming. AWFUL traction on snow, rain, anything slick!..and they put FIRESTONES on it to boot. Low coolant light keeps coming on along with idiot bell, yet dealer can't tell me why. Defrosters are TERRIBLE, window fogs up way too easily. Glove box-why is there a lock on it, when it's so poorly designed you could open it with your fingers?!Safety side impact worst rating for driver passenger side. Was happy for the first few months, then had to return to the dealer for repairs shortly thereafter. Thought it would be a car that I would end up buying at end of lease...NOT!!!!!! Similar Products Used: Can't hold a candle to our old 87'Pontiac 6000LE, which is STILL running with 281,000K. All major things still original-why did GM stop making that car? Too reliable? Would rather buy just about anything, except maybe a LADA. |

I have 42000 km on the vehicle, a base model with the 3.1 V6, lots of power options, and love its interior volume and trunk space, adequate power (155 HP) and after 3 Canadian winters it still looks great.
