Strength:

It gets me to work...for now.

Weakness:

Replaced front rotors after 30k miles, brake shoes replaced 4 times after 65k miles, fan motor switch only works on 3,4,5. poor radio reception, passenger window stopped rolling down, rear brake bar lights not working, transmission filter is not purchasable, tires suck, etc.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!! I have had nothing but problems with this car and no dealer wants to touch it. It is now common knowledge that the brakes are GARBAGE. I have 75k miles on mine and pray that it gets me home every day.

Strength:

Roomy interior

Weakness:

All but the roomy interior!

Problems from mile 7! I have had to have warranty work done at every oil change. Problems began with a "mysterious" noise/creeking/crunching noise in the front end. Dealer was unable to pin point problem so they began by replacing part by part. Brakes and rotors???? Let's just say every 3,000 to 6,000 miles we are placing one or the other. Thank goodness for lifetime warranty's on parts! Check engine light???? 1st time was at 42,000, told to replace fuel filter and spark plug wires, did that....13 days later, "can you say stranded at the mall?" Funny thing, dealer has no record of our car being serviced that day! 59,900...check engine light on for the 3rd time, same characteristics (won't start the first time, usually takes 3 times and when it finally kicks over the whole entire front end shakes, therefore turning on the check engine light on.) Get this, less than a month later at 62,000 miles the check engine light turns on AGAIN, now we need new fuel injectors ($1,500) Did I mention that my extended warranty ran out at 60,000 miles?
I would NEVER recommend this car or dealership to anyone, not even an enemy!
Please feel free to email if you have had similar problems!

Strength:

The left-side cup holder, roominess.

Weakness:

Everything else.

We've had problems almost from day one. First the radio quit, then bushings in the rear went out. Also we've had a tie rod end replaced, power steering pump replaced, power window switch replaced 3 times, air leaks - had it in 3 times for leaking windshield, still leaks, a/c switches replaced, had corroding aluminum rims replaced, exhaust smell that the dealer just can't seem to find, leaking manifold cover, coolant leak, brakes replaced at 30k, MAP sensor replaced and more that I can't recall at the moment. We've gotten lousy service from the dealer and GMAC doesn't seem to care either. We are planning on getting rid of it very soon before the resale value drops even lower on it.

Strength:

Feature packed, value priced, realiable, comfortable, handles good, looks good (I like its modest looking)

Weakness:

The front break (does anyone know how to get it recalled?)
Engine more noisy than import, and is getting dirty

I have had the 98 Malibu LS for 3.5 years now and have put 35,000 miles on it. I bought it for its price, features, magazine review (well, at that time) as compared to similarly priced Honda and Toyota. I still feel it is a good value depite a few nuisances.

The car had ABS, 6-cylinder, power everything, remote, automatic head light (but you can NOT turn it off at night, annoying sometimes like driving through a light show), automatic volume control of the stereo (louder as you go faster). A similarly equipped import would have cost a whole bundle more. The acceleration is excellent, handling is good, ride is excellent, smooth and solid, just about right. Best of all, it all handles, feels, and looks EXACTLY the same as I drove it off the lot 3.5 years ago.

It is not without problems, but the only repair I had during the past 3.5 years was a $150 bill for resurfacing the rotor at a Chevy dealer. Other than that, it's just gas, oil change, and car wash.

If you feel that I love this car, then you are right, at least so far :)

Strength:

good pick up. smooth ride.

Weakness:

electric system

I have not had any problems with the brakes and I am at 34000 miles. However, the antilock brake light does come on frequently and a tail light
has melted. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with similar problems. I did hear this is a reletively frequent problem after I bought the car. I have checked the Chevrolet web site and could not help but noticed no place for recall information.

Strength:

It has four wheels

Weakness:

Brakes, A/C, power, reliability, service dept.,etc.etc.

This is a horrible excuse for a car. I have had the brakes replaced or worked on three times before I hit 35,000 miles (of course this is not warranty work). The drivers seat rocks back and forth- in the shop three times, still not fixed. The A/C is nonexistent. It pulls to the left, vibrates and has the power of a bicycle. A very poor, unreliable vehicle.

The room.

Weakness:

Everything that goes wrong.

My first car was a 1979 Malibu. It was the best car I ever had. BUT, recently my boyfriend bought a 1997 Malibu and it is the bigggest pile. The ABS light, the oil light keeps coming on. It had a motor replaced when we bought it and now we have to replace this one because of a bad knock. There is no way to ckeck the transmission fluid. The drivers side handle on the door cracked. Do we need to go on?

Bumper to bumper

Worse vehicle I have ever driven. Even worse than the Dodge pick up.
Breaks have been done 3X(13K, 21K, 31K) going on 4. Ac at 15K. Alt @ 15002. Cooling system @ 21K. Window switches @ 34k Have 46K now AC control switches are going bad. Tires are good for one minor flat only(do not exceed) Engine has had valve clatter since 21K all mechs say this is OK. BULLXXXX!!!!! @ 36145 mech at Dewey Barber in Warrior said this noise was caused by the pistons, and that it would not damage the engine. If I wanted it fixed, I would have to pay for it.
I have been dealing with Reese Harrell at Customer service until last Fri.
Have not heard from him since. Guess I should not have mentioned council.
