I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE 15 MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE PISTONS REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD KNOCKED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, THEY FIXED THE PISTONS AND THE VEHICLE IS KNOCKING AGAIN AFTER 2,000 MILES. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALONG WITH THE ROTORS TWICE AND NOW THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I AM VERY DISSASISFIED WITH THIS VEHICLE AS I AM A CHEVROLET PERSON. THE DOORS TO THE VEHICLE ARE SQUEEKING LIKE THEY ARE BENT OUT OF SHAPE. THE INTERIOR IS TEARING ALL BY ITSELF ALONG THE REAR DOORS. THE TRUNK DONT OPEN ALL THE TIME WITH THE REMOTE AND THE BUTTON IN THE CAR. STEERING AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NEED TO ALL BE REMADE BY GM TO A BETTER QUALITY.

Reoccurring Brake and A/C problems. Chevrolet & General Motors don't stand behind their product.

This car STINKS. DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!! I purchased the car 4/98. After 8,000 miles the brakes started to pulsate. At 13,000 the rotors were replaced. I also had problems with the A/C vents getting stuck. The dealer ended up replacing the vent. The brakes stared to pulsate again by 20,000 miles and by 36,000 miles they needed to be cut. The A/C control head needed to be repalced after 43.000 miles. The A/C cycled on and off. Let me tell you that GM/Chevy knows there are problems and still require you to pay for the parts until they find a solution. Anyway, two days after I had the A/C control head replaced, the A/C started to blow out hot air. Brought the car back to the dealer (Royal Chevrolet in New Jersey) to find out what happened. They stated there was a hole in the condensor and it would cost $1200 for the part. I found it hard to beleive that something could fit thru the grill without damaging the grill and put a hole in the condensor. When I picked the car up, he threw the keys accross the counter, said it was in the back and walked away. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! 9 months past untill I had my regular dealer look at the car. He tightened a hose and replaced a seal and freon at a cost of $80. A big difference. I recommend them. (Lynn Chevrolet). I had the water pump replaced. A camshaft sensor was shorted and had to be replaced. (The check engine light kept coming on) I also replaced the hub bearing on both front wheels after 60,000 miles. Recently the A/C started to have the same problem. I called Chevy because I feel I should not have to pay for reoccurring problems. They could care less about the consumer. They have your money already. Chevy told me the only dealer that could repair it on good faith was the dealer that installed the part the first time. The ones the tried to rip me off. Chevy just don't get it. They lost me as a customer. DON'T BUY THIS CAR UNLESS YOU WANT POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS.

Roomy, Quiet, Looks nice, and has large trunk space.

Weakness:

BRAKES!, Light that are always coming on the Dealership cannot duplicate to fix: Check Engine, ABS

Is a maintenance nightmare! At 47000 just had rotors turned. Rotors were replaced at 12k and 25k, passenger mirror has fallen off twice, and lights are always coming on (ABS, Check engine, Coolant)! Has been in for several other minor things!

When getting rotors replace at 25k, it took calling Chevy's customer service line to finally get dealership to fix it. Until I told them that I called they said the original dealer had to fix it that replaced the original rotors. After Chevy Customer line was called and they were aware of it, they looked and fix immediately no questions!

Strength:

Most everything

Weakness:

None so far but the couple of minor rattles on the interior but I live on a dirt road.

My wife and I have owned this car for about 4 months and have put almost 5,000 miles on the car. There are a few minor rattles on the interior but other than that I have been very impressed with the car. I have not experienced any of the problems that others have mentioned. The car drives well, gets good gas mileage (30 on trips), and runs flawlessly. I hope that I don't have problems later on but so far this seems like a nice car.

brakes, Brakes, BRAKES!, Transmission, Fan, and oh yeah - BRAKES! Dirtiest front wheels you've ever seen from all the brake dust!

Absolutely the WORST CAR I have ever owned! DO NOT BUY A MALIBU!!!!!
A total waste of good money. I wish I could find a nice tall cliff to run it off!
-AC stopped working in 9 months, had to have a switch replaced. (only repair under warranty)
-Brakes went up at 25K miles and 36K miles... and 47K miles ... and YES AGAIN began pulsating 3K miles later! I have been told by several shops and dealers that there is a serious problem with the brake system overheating itself & causing premature wear on the rotors. But has Chevy done anything about it? NO! Calls to Customer service line are a waste of time as well.
-ABS light constantly comes on.
Still owe over $10,500 but it's only Blue Book valued at $6,400.
-Fan only works at settings 3,4,5.
-Now, at 58K miles the transmission is going up. Almost got me killed pulling out of a road yesterday!
Still owe $10,500 but Blue book value is $6,400. Seriously considering taking the hit to get rid of the thing.

Where do I start!!!

Here is just the jist of what has happened with my 1999 Chevy Malibu. I bought it used from a Chevy dealership.
- At about 27,000 miles new brakes and rotaters
- At about 54,000 complete new engine (because my original engine exploded)...Yes, I changed the oil regularly.
- At about 55,500 miles (about 6 weeks after new engine) I got a new transmission system and fuel pump.
Just got my car back tonight, so my fight has just begun. Any experiences regarding anyone's pursuits would be appreciated. I have found the Chevrolet dealership to be of no help. Calling the Chevy Customer Hotline has been a waste of my time as well.

I like most things about the car.

Weakness:

Pulls to the left constantly. I've taken it back to the dealer 3 times and they finally said it was torque steering making it pull. I'm not buying that since it does it even when you take your foot of the accelerator. I had to have the passenger door adjusted since it was rubbing against the front quarter panel. No brake or rotor problems as yet but I did have a blow out that was of course was not covered under warranty. They said something must have flown up off the road and hit the side of my tire making it weak.

Only minor complaints so far. Some of the other reviews have me worried.

Over all I love this car. What surprises me is that theer are so many bad reviews against the Malibu?! I truly believe it is a strong import fighter that trys to keep imports out of America!
