Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS

Power, sleek design
Weakness:
See review...please research on own and read all reviews, very wise before purchasing! Initially enjoyed this car, but really should of done additional research before purchasing. Been real deligent in getting the recommended services. 15,000 miles: faulty electrical problem caused trunk to release while car was in motion. klunking sound from steering column also at 15,000 miles. Brake pads and rotors replaced at only 22,000 miles. Interior is cheaply designed, console between driver and passenger seats peeled away within the first year and passenger dashboard is starting to fade and peel away now at 43,000 miles. 40,000 miles: coolant leak, tires in poor shape, radiator and transmission need replaced, and now at 43,000 miles: problems with gas gauge Similar Products Used: 2000 Dodge Stratus (Loved this car) |

Handles beautifully, looks great, fun to drive and comfortable. Good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Has far too many mechanical problems too soon. Catalytic converter, gas guage, radiator, steering column, all in the first 4 years. I love the way this car handles and it's sleek design. It is roomy inside and comfortable, but I have had too many problems with this car since I bought it. It had had to have a new radiator, catalytic converter, and now the gas guage doesn't work and I have a klunking sound in my steering column. It is my first new car and I will never buy a Chevrelot again! |

Handles corners great, picks up speed in a hurry, love it on the freeway for passing and love the sporty shape. And great gas mileage.
Weakness:
High back rise of design on the r/l blocks your view when trying to pass another car or change lanes. Body is not very dent or blemish resistant. And yes police love to pull you over in this vehicle. This car is sleek and stylish. I have it in white with dark tinted windows, which doubles this car as a police magnet!!! But uh seriously I recently had to shell out $599 for a catylitic converter from the dealer because this part is not out for the general public. Believe me I called around, no mechanic shop had the part available (3400 engine). Right fog light out $50 what??? Gas milage, handling, nice acceleration, looks.
Weakness:
Too many problems, make sure you PURCHASE and extended warrenty or you will live to regret it. Overall I like this car. Nice suspension and ride, however, seems to have alot of problems for a car with 40k miles. Air conditioner vent broke, wheel bearings need to be replaced, and windshield wipers broke. GM has gotten their last dollar out of me. I come from a a family of GM employees and have always bought GM products, but no more. For the money I will start buying foreign cars with much better warranties. Similar Products Used: Grand prix mustang olds |

Everything listed above. Chevy needs to get their act together and stop making lemons. If I wanted lemons, I'd go the the grocery store. I have had too many problems with this car starting when I first drove it off the car lot. First thing broken at 9,000 miles was the a/c vent broke. Next was the catalytic converter went out twice within the year, the third catalytic converter still works, thankfully. At 25,000 the manifold and throttle body had to be replaced. At 26,000 the fuel pump relay switch had to be replaced (if the fuel pump relay switch doesn't work, no gas gets to the engine). Then the power window motor went out at around 40,000 miles. The suspension cv boot had to be replaced at 50,000 miles. The alternator has been replaced. Recently the water pump went out, the gas gauge is not working, and now the air conditioning is not working. Similar Products Used: Ford mustang (1985,1990) Chevy camero (1998) |

Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34
Strength:
3.4 L V-6, of course! It's really been through a lot and still runs like a champ. I also like the space this car has; for a sportier model, it also caters to those who prefer comfort to speed.
Weakness:
The one big defect in these vehicles I've noticed is that they aren't very dent/scratch/blemish resistant. The bodies were not built to withstand like the engines. I bought my Monte Carlo from a friend who needed quick $$ last summer. These cars are amazing. I have had so much fun driving it, I've never been excited to drive before I bought this car last summer. A great amount of power for a non-modified vehicle, very sleek look, demands attention... completely meshes with my personality! Since I bought it with 145,000 miles on it last summer, I have had few mechanical problems with it. The biggest one was the electrical system-but that may have been caused by shadetree mechanics tampering with it. Right now, all that's needed is some routine maintenance and a new O2 sensor, and other than that it's been a great car to drive! I recommend this vehicle to the younger crowd.. it's fun, sassy and it gets looks (but be careful, police LOVE it). |

Roomy, great pick up.
Weakness:
Keeping up on ongoing brake issues My only complaint with my 2002 Monte Carlo is the brakes. I've had it for 2 years and have only 40,000 miles on it. During this time I've had it into the dealership on 4 occassions to have the brakes repaired. All of which consisted on turning the rotors twice, shaving them once and replacing one entirely. This is becoming an expensive vehicle to own with the rotors needing turning every 12-14,000 miles on average. |

Power Styling (I am partial to the black) Mileage Value Quiet ride Roomy
Weakness:
Interior could use some chrome trim or accent. Chrome wheel options would be nice Great value for the money. I traded my 2000 Monte SS in for the 2004. The 2004 is basically the same except for a few minor improvements. I love the styling and ride. Great combination of performance and family sedan. Quiet and comfortable with more than adequate power for a large car. I added a K&N air filter for a little extra boost. 30mpg on highway. Steering is responsive and corners well. If you are thinking about one, get it this year because the re-skin for '05 doesn't look too good. Similar Products Used: 1995 Monte Carlo LS 2000 Monte Carlo SS 2004 Impala |

Everything!!!
Weakness:
The 3.4 is expensive to replace and no mechanic here will even touch it because it's so complicated. I love my Monte Carlo. It had approximately 160,000 miles when we bought it. (It's a '97 Z34with the 3.4L of course, and we bought it in '02) It has given us very few problems. Of course it had to have to normal maintenance like brakes, hoses, etc. But other than that it was a very good, reliable vehicle. UNTIL.....a head gasket blew, and it ran very hot. No, I'm not the average female who doesn't notice when the lights start flashing in the car....I was on a dirt road so I didn't see the steam coming out of the back end til it was too late. I didn't notice the temp gauge was past 260 because the sun was shining through the back window and I couldn't see it until I was in the shade. And the light only started flashing AFTER I noticed that the temp was over 260. I stopped within 20 feet, but it was too late. The heads are now cracked and the cylinders are ruined as well. We're waiting to find a new engine at a price we can afford. :( We are fairly sure that the gasket is what caused it to run hot, not the other way around. But anyway, I love this car!!! I just wish I hadn't killed it!!
