Strength:

Great gas milage.

Weakness:

Lack of power but if I wanted to go fast I would have gotten something else!

Well I have had this car since sept. 2004 and I have to say I have had no problems with it as of yet! The gas millage is great at 30 miles a gallon. The car is a 2 door hatch back. The first thing I did when I got the car home was to take out the back speakers and install my 4 8"subwoofers! Besides regualr maintance the only thing I have done is change brakes! I love this car. I know of someone who worked with my dad that has a Daewoo that he has 97000 miles on it, the only thing he has done on a regular bases is change the timeing belt every 60000 miles! I think it is a great car and look forward to driving it for a long time!!!!

great gas mileage. pretty easy to repair also.

Weakness:

seats are uncomfortable. clutch stick could stand to be smaller

me and my gf bought this car because we had driven a skylark into the ground. 105hp in an 'inline' 4 wasnt the best, but it would do. since we've gotten it, ive turned it into my project car. since owning it, ive installed many custom performance mods and have done most of the repair work on my own. we've only had one major problem, and that was partly my fault for requesting a standard. the clutch went out @ 31000 miles, mainly because my gf rides the clutch. ive put ~90k on my daewoo since then and the clutch shows no sign if giving. aside from that, ive had no problems with my woo. had the 3 recalls fixed last year, and my gas mileage increased. i currently rival hondas @ 41mpg on the highway. i can run 14.6 @ 101mph in the quarter mile. all in all, im pretty impressed for such a cheap car. parts are scarce ive heard, so ive stocked up on spares that people report having issues with.

Strength:

descent gas mileage

Weakness:

Between the headlights and the rear bumper could use improvement.

Please Please Please, don't buy this car. We bought the car new. Hunted for a dealership that sold daewoo for a week. They had a 4 door lanos with all the options that somebody ordered and backed out on. ( I should have known then). I knew in the first month I was in for a rough ride. The car was in the shop 3 times in the first 6 months. In one of the problems the dealership said the rear seat belts are suppost to tighten as you lay against the seat and never losen again. My 8 year old was being cut in half by the seat belt. The problems didn't get major until we broke 50,000 miles. Including rear wheal bearings, thermostat, alternator, a/c twice. 3 recalls, rear window motors and on and on. I upgraded the tires to max size available and good tires to lower Road noise. The car has two ways to drive it, putt putt or in the gas. It pulled pretty well when your were in the gas but my wife needed an everyday driver not an indy car. 70,000 thousand miles the engine blows. Fidelity warranty won't cover the engine because they say it's water damaged. Full coverage insurance won't cover the engine because the car blew the engine on a dry night, and we had not had rain for 3 weeks. No signs of water damage at all. The dealership did me a favor and used a boriscope, still no water. I pay for the engine to be further dissasembled at the request of fidelity warranty company. Still no signs of water fidelity refuses my claim. The car a waste of 16000 dollars after purchase, warranty, interest, tow and parts bills. No one could find parts because daewoo went bankrupt.( I heard chevy bought them out?). To finish it out we had to pay $3000 and the car was long gone in the junk yard. I wouldn't take this car for free!

It's unique style. Thats all.

Weakness:

pretty much everything. Do not expect to get good life of the car. Parts are very hard to come by. Once something goes wrong the whole car starts to fall apart.

I have to admit this car is cute especially since it was my first car. For the first 30,000 miles it was great. I maintained my vehicle and got my oil changes every 3,000 miles. Now I am going through so many problems. The motor is dying every other day. I had to by a new battery after the first year. My a/c went out and now the alternator needs to be replaced. Did I forget to mention I had to replace the thermostat as well. And as everyone well knows that Daewoo motors filed bancrupcy which is making parts very hard to go by. Most of all I can't trade it in because I am totally upside down since the value of my trade-in really sucks. All I have to say is yea it's an affordable car at first however, I would really recommend buying an american made car or a car that has a good track record which to me every vehicle in America except Daewoo. Please do not consider getting yourself into a car like this. It is not worth it and parts are horribly hard to come by. This is the last time I will buy a foreign car especially one that no one has ever heard before.

Rarity, color, design and powerplant (1.6L Sport engine) Low initial cost

Weakness:

Lack of Cruise Control, No Bass in Audio system, Dealer support, availability of aftermarket parts, low resale if you decide to sell,

Great Car!! The 1.6L with 4 valves/cylinder makes this this car move well. It has enough power, great looks, and if you want car no one else has... This is the car for you!! I have the 3-dr hatchback in Bright Red and it is a real head-turner! I pulled off the name badges and everyone who sees it wants to know who makes it. Is it a BMW? is the most common question asked... The red leather interior is so color contrasting and varying, that is down right cute! You can sure tell that the designers came out of a class on european design. I wish there were more aftermarket appearance items adn performance add-ons- but that is a small price to pay for such a wonderful car!! This is my fifth small import I have bought and would definately rank it as my favorite!

Sure its made out of toothpicks and cheese but it is the best small hatchback on the market for the price.beats the hell out of my daihatsu in a few ways though my daihatsu has better turning(no power steering) and braking and mileage.

Weakness:

I would say everythings strong except the power steering sucks and the interior is made of play dough and ritz crackers.

I think its the best car for your money now that the prices have dropped way down.

Ecconomical, Fun to drive, Looks Sporty & brings out the good drivers from the poor drivers and boy racers.

Weakness:

Sadly you do need to be a good driver to be able to appreciate advantages of this car and few people these days are good drivers.

This car is a wannabe sports car that sadly falls short. However it does move and handle well. Without it being overly expensive it is quick and has all the creture comforts that you need when you drive; air con, abs etc.

the gas mileage is good and the car is cute.

Weakness:

all but whats listed in the strenghts

This car ran great for the first couple of months. After that everything fell to crap. I had to replace the break pads and the rotors after only 1 year, my 3rd cylinder is mis-fireing and some other part in my engine is mis-fireing. On top of that the electrical system in my car is screwed! I have no dash lights and no right tail light or front running light. Oh, and my dial for ac/heat seams to me one click off and I can't defrost my windshield. If you own this car I hope you live somewhere it doesn't snow because you try to turn and the car keeps going forward. I'm sorry, but I loved my car for a few months now I'm stuck with it and I can't trade it in because I still owe 2 times as much as it's trade in value!!!!!

Strength:

This car runs strong, drives well,is comfortable to ride in for extended distances, has dual air bags for your saftey and your passenger. They have taken care of any safety problems or recalls without question. The Lanos Spirit that I have enjoyed driving has made around 35 MPG on the highway at 80-85 MPH and it doesn't take it long to reach that crusing speed equipped with the smooth running 1.6 DOHC F.I 4 CYL. engine with an increadibly smooth shifting 5 SPD manual trans. I am impressed with the amount of leg room it has in the fron and the back seats. My neighbor is 6' tall and can get in and out of the back seat on the passenger's side of the car relatively easy,(and sit in those "comfy" leather seats. This car is well designed!

Weakness:

I can not find many weaknesses. The one that strikes my mind first is the chinsey little cup holders that don't work too bad as far as holding the cups if there not too large, but are rather hard to get to pop out like they are suppose to.As with most small cars it should have more insolation against road noise.Test tracks that new car manufactures use must be too smooth to test for road noise because they all lack insulation from road noise(except Mercedes,I know because I own one). The other thing that I would like to see is Gages for Amps, oil, and Tach. I think for the price this could and should have been standard on the sports model.

I have not owned this car very long but if it continues to run and drive as well as it is now it is a much better automobile than Toyota or Honda. This car cruses at 80-90 MPH with ease. It handles much better than Toyota or Honda with its Macpherson Strut setup. Anybody who says this car don't handle well has never raced on a track.Find another car in the same class (class meaning price,$16000.00 average new price,Cubic inch displacement 97.5 ci,Horse Power 105,Weight 2447 Lbs.,completely stock from the factory). Then meet me on an oval track and let's race boso,I'll clean your clock buster. You are a real Clown if you think you can buy something newer, faster, with more quality and more warrenty for the money .You will find out that if it doesn't Daewoo Lanos Sport that it's more blow than GO!I have worked at a used car dealership that sold them all and and I know what I'm talking about, (O Toyota what you can't and won't do for me!)I've been around the track more than once too!!!!! Would you think more of this car to know that the man that designed it also designed the Lexus? Don't let that sway your thoughts because you buy a car on it's own values, not how high they jump on the TV commercials, Right? If you haven't put the other cars through the stress test, then don't be too quick to put this little machine down. The longer I have mine the better I like it. The warranty is one of the best in the buisness and is still valid(drive train 6yr.or 50,000mi.) It's a shame that they stopped making this car. It's one of the few that would have gave the Japs a run for there money. It's a classy machine for the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
