Strength:

Strong Viper look, Great handling grip to the road ( I would know this ) hehe I think there is plenty of room, It has a nice roar ROOOMMM!!!!!

Weakness:

No manual V6, Could have had a bigger engine, It does resemble a Viper, Im not saying to drop an 8.3 liter engine into it but may around 210 hp would be nice

I dont know why everybody isn't happy with the avenger If there is not enough room for your legs dont get it, I think the Name Avenger will live on forever, I hate the dodge stratus i think replacing the avenger with the stratus was a stupid idea. I love you drive my avenger I had Zip problems with it. Mine now has 135,000 mile and I never had to replace anything, I hope that they bring back the avenger some day.

Strength:

Great looks, enough legroom for the driver (I'm 6'4"), handles great with Pirelli's, automatic transmission with O/D, Shark Blue color unique!

Weakness:

Turning radius, view thru rear window when backing, sparkplugs have to be changed by mechanic at extra expense.

I bought my Avenger brand new right out of the showroom and have been thrilled with it ever since. I have the Sport model with the V6, which was a little cheaper than the ES without the leather and sunroof. I had driven a 4 cylinder owned by a friend and decided I must have the V6. The car is sporty, fun to drive, and looks sleek. I get many compliments on it and since there doesn't seem to be many around, I get asked what it is. It's just about to turn 90K miles and (knock on wood) has been very dependable with no major problems. The brakes squeeled after the first replacement until my mechanic put on some new style pads recently. The doors leaked the black sealant early on, but had the dealer fix it(after 2 tries) and no problems since. The car handles great, has sufficient power, and cruises nicely on the highway. I get about 30 mpg hwy, 24 city. I hope to keep it for another 90k miles!

Strength:

Strong Bold Look, Great Handling, Lots Of Room, Upgradable - Wheels/bodykit/lowering springs/Turbo addon and or motorswap

Weakness:

Disc Brakes a little small but still work effectively. For high performance braking a swap with a junked Stealth will do the trick as long as you have 16inch rims or bigger so the rotors will fit.

After reading all the dodge avenger reviews, I feel the need to clear up a few misconceptions about the dodge avenger. First off, People are complaining that the headlights get fogged up or look dirty on the inside - ACK! Wrong! Whats happening in most cases is that the outside plastic of the lense is pitted from dirt & sand hitting against it for prolonged periods. It looks decieving but it is on the outside. Best remedy aside from buying new light bezels is wetsanding them with 1000,1500 & 2000 grit sandpaper. About 10 to 15 minutes with each grit and keep it wet. After your done and cleaned them off and dried them they will look a little milky/hazy All you need to do now is apply a bit of car wax to them and they will look brand new and clear as a bell. Another misconception is not being able to find performance parts for the avenger, granted you cant find them everywhere but they are available - a good place to start is at www.asog.net, there you will find everything you want to know and more about the car. Now finally onto my review, This car is diffantly for those for the young at heart, But I've actually seen old people enjoy this car as well. It's actually an ideal car for those that have the means to do the maintainance on it themselfs in order to save high costs at the dealership or Local Garage unless of course your loaded. Parts are a little on the expensive side especially from a dodge dealer, Best to go to Mitsubishi for things like Hub assemblies, ball joints etc. Like many have said here the look and feel of the car make it a pleasure to drive and I wouldnt trade it for anything, well ok maybe a viper hehe.

Weakness:

No leg room for driver, I'm 5'10 and my knees are always hitting the wheel. Headlights, suspension, tranny, paint, door handles, tire wear, road noise, and anythign else you can think of

I bought this car in 2003 with 63000 miles, and in less than a week after purchase from a "5-star" dealership, i had paint chipping off the front air dam, and needed a new driverside lower control arm. Once i got it back, the paint immediately chipped again. after 10,000 miles, i had to have the transmission rebuilt. when i got the car back i had to replace the remaining lower control arm, as well as both upper control arms. as the result of a small stone chip, there is now a quarter sized paint ship on my hood, and the paint is nearly half gone on my front air dam. after a year of ownership and about 3 months of being problem free, the drivers side door handle came off. and after everything, my transmission recently broke again and had to be completely replaced. just to get my car to llok like it did when i bought it(price not included expected wear and tear) for new paint on bumper, hood, and a new door handle was over $1100, for the cost of repairs just to keep the car drivable, is over $4500. Also tires are nearly impossible to come by especially for anythign decent. stock good year rs-a cost about 150 a piece. headlight also looks as if it has been sandblasted, that happend about 2 months after ownership. i've nearly paid for this car twice and havent had it for 2 years yet. anybody who would buy this car will be sorry, for every car with no problems there is probably 10 with multiple problems. i still own the car, until it gets fixed. dodge/chrysler/mitsubishi(powertrain) has definitely lost a customer. this car is an absolute waste of money, dont buy it. oh and dont buy a car from elhart dodge in Holland, MI. they wont acknowledge and past customer, even after a week.

the roomy interior and sleek look has good power when getting up there

Weakness:

it's just not a very well-built car

I have had nothing but trouble from my Dodge Avenger ES. I have a white exterior, white rims and dark grey leather interior. I love the way the car looks and enjoy the extra room that the Avenger provides in a coupe, but I have had MANY problems with the car. During my first years of driving the car, I had transmission problems 3 times. Sometimes, when I back up my car and put it into drive -- it still does not always go into gear immediately. I have the tar that leaks onto the door frames. That is also very annoying. I have had many body problems too. My front bumper is coming apart. The driver's side door handle fell off when a passenger opened the door. All of the door lock and window controls on the driver's side have fallen into the door panel. I do not recommend this car.

Strength:

Power after 60 mph- I have had mine over 140 but that is where it tops out Looks- refined yet attractive wheels/tires- give a great look and feel reliable- its one of the only dodge products id ever buy plenty of options and is a great summer of cruising car.

Weakness:

take off is not impressive, my jeep cherokee posts a better 0-40 time than the avenger, then again it is a jeep. the tar occasionally leaks out of the doors onto the frame, it is annoying to clean up. it is chrysler/dodge product so the chance of getting one that could be problematic is much higher, mine wasnt one fo those

I own a 99 dodge avenger, it is the tan/ pewter color es model. It is fully loaded and has 61000 miles on it. There have been no problems at all with this car, the only complaint is the small amount of tar that leaks out of the doors in the summer time, cleaning it can be a little annoying. It isnt the best car for winter driving but then again i dont know any 2 door coupes that are. the 2.5 offer sufficent power for most people and most situations. my longest pass so far on it was 4 cars and a school bus, if that doesnt tell you anything then nothing does. Im currently looking to add more power to it because everything else is in perfect condition. There is no rust and it been through 5 NY winters. the tires and rims give the car a great look and feel while driving. Although the turning radious is large because of the long wheel base, the suspension and tires give it great handeling. the body roll is minimual when corning and changing lanes. the car looks simular to a stealth with a more "laid back" appearance. i think anyone shopping for a all around car should buy one of the es models.

Plenty of room Affordable Good Looks Solid construction and ride

Weakness:

Low to the ground Long body(affects turning radius) Could be faster Glue sometimes leaks from the doors

I Paid $4500 for my Avenger Sport with 69,000 miles on it. It has the Mitsubishi built 2.5 liter V6 and automatic transmission. This car drives perfectly. Although it is not as fast as it looks there is more than enough power for sporty driving. The back seat has to be the largest in its class (compared to Integra, Eclipse and Mustang) and it folds down to expand trunk space. I have experienced no major mechanical problems and have few complaints. The main one would have to be the black glue that sometimes leaks from the doors. Other than that the car has been a worthy investment. Because Chrysler sold way more Sebrings than Avengers the Avenger is rarer and more eye-catching in comparison. I reccomend this car to anyone who wants a sporty, roomy, and affordable vehicle.

Decent power with the 2.5 liter. GREAT handling with the 17" rims and lo pro tires.

Weakness:

CD player, paint, fog lamps, head lamps.

I bought my avenger with 134,000 miles on it almost a year ago. I do a lot of highway driving. at 165,003 miles the motor started knocking VERY LOUDLY. At 165,045 miles the transmission started slipping. I am going to repair both next week (7-30-04). I have the 2.5 liter engine. Just a word of warning to all who read this. be careful at high miles. I have a toyota with 230,500 mi that has NO mechanical problems what so ever, and a Volvo station wagon with 185,000 miles. that also has no problems. I have taken vary good care of my car, and I know the owner before me did as well. I have known them all of my life. that's bout it.

Strength:

Appearance, definetly. Looks like a slightly tamer Dodge Stealth with the big back end, and the 17 inch rims look great on it. Interior, although cloth, is fine for me, and I haven't had any interior problems to speak of yet.

Weakness:

Definetly the paint job, paint was coming off on the roof when I bough it, and now its only getting worse, I will definetly need to repaint it soon. The headlights for some reason fog up really bad, there must be a leak somewhere in it.

I couldn't have asked for a better first car. I spent nearly 3 years researching over the internet to find the sportiest car for the best deal that was unique and not found everywhere. I ended up somewhere between the Eclipse and Talon, this is where I found the Avenger. The car looks sharp enough to get the girls, and although it has a relatively weak engine for the car size, as a 17 year old, I don't care about 0-60 time. Got it with only 48000 miles on it and I plan to keep it until it falls apart on me.
