6 weeks late on delivery, stereo was not as ordered, leaky sun roof (dealer install), the car is on it's 3rd Tranny(1st tranny at approx. 50,000 km,) the last tranny repair out of warr. is perfect. 2nd A/C unit, 2nd modulator poor headlights, 4 sets of tires (only 175,000km) 4 brake jobs,
dashboard rattles,

This car was built in '93 recession. Chrysler shows it can built a car to fit the times. I have no immediate plans to get rid of this car, because most major parts had been replace/repair at one time. This car is made up of parts any thing from 93 to 97. Best of all it had been paid for for years. I had paid over $25,000 (cdn) for this car back in '93, with all available options, except for the built in baby sit. We have 3 vehicles in our family. But, the bottom line is that our family will not buy another Chrylser product again. We give a "NO STAR RATING."

Strength:

Very nice looking car - it's four years old and doesn't look out of style even though the new Intrepid have a new body style.

When it is running I love it..... Handles great, has fantastic pick-up, lots of storage, I love the autostick feature, great stereo sound (infinity).

Weakness:

I only have 75k on this car and have replaced three water pumps, the transmission, the O-rings (before they were recalled), rack and pinion steering (major $$$), now only 20K miles later more steering problems (bolt to rack broke - lost all steering). Having a "keystone cop" local dealership certainly doesn't help...

I have a love hate relationship with this car. I love it when it runs and is the first car that I would have ever considered keeping after I paid it off or came to lease end (this coming from a woman who always gets bored with my current ride and gets new car hungry after three years). However, the reliability of the car makes me crazy. I am in the proces of looking at new vehicles now and have fallen in love with the Chrysler 300M, however my last break down was the straw that broke the camel's back - I will NEVER buy another Dodge/Chrysler product again nor deal with my local Dodge Chrysler dealership again!

Strength:

Interior space, cosmetic appeal, comfort and AFFORDABILITY.

Weakness:

Trunk space height isn't what I'd like it to be, and the drink holders in front look like it wouldn't take much to break them. I really hate that there aren't any in the back. I got one of those flexible ones you can hang between the glass and the door, opened the console, placed the top part inside and closed it. This allowed it to hang straight back for my son to use in the back seat. Of course you need to be careful when you open the console as it will fall if you forget about the drink...

I must say that I really enjoy owning this vehicle. As you can tell from the "Weaknesses" section there isn't alot I don't like. We have a lot of family that is either 3 or 6 hours away, which we visit at least monthly, so we wanted a car that would be comfortable on the highway for and and my 6yr old. This car fits that bill perfectly, and the rear lights with their independent controls is popular with my son when he wants to fire up the Game Boy in the dark. The car is very roomy, has plenty of headspace, I enjoy the easy visibility of the white guages and the CD stereo also sounds great. I got this car with a package upgrade, I believe it was the 22D, and the total price "out the door" was $20,050. Thank you Auto-By-Tel! There wasn't anything in this price range that could compete with the assets this car had to offer! I've had it for almost a year now and I still don't regret writing that payment check every month. I've owned cars where the novelty has worn off WAY to quickly...not the case here. The base engine won't smoke the tires, but that just saves me money on new ones and if I wanted a car for that I wouldn't have gotten a family sedan. Although, I don't ever worry about having to merge into traffic on the interstate, and I imagine the ES can make us some of the difference. To summarize, I feel the car is worth the money and can't be beat for the price....no regrets!

Strength:

Great stability on road, esthetics. Room. Excellent motor.

Weakness:

Entire A/C system.
Complex components (map sensor) that technicians can't deal with properly. (lack of training ?)
Integrity (cheap parts) : wiper mechanism, rain seals
Cheap plastic car hood lever and wiring .
Hood props need to be replaced after 4 years. (ever get knocked out by a slamming hood ?)
Tie rods, Ball joints need frequent changes.
Car gives the impression that it wasn't made for harsh northern weather.

Too many frustrating trips to the dealer to repair A/C. 3 evaporator changes/ 2 compressor changes / 2 condensor changes / 1 thermometer change. (only part on extended guarantee was evaporator .. go figure).

Every time I brought the car to the dealerhip there was at least 2 or 3 Intrepids having an A/C unit overhauled.

Rain seals sag like old bras when the temperature drops.

'MAP SENSOR' problem remained unsolved for 2 years until competent technician finally tested it. (Motor would shut down intermitently at stops or during gear downs.)

Technicians charge high fees and don't Q/A their work. Seems that selling their cars is more important than maintaining them, unfortunately that attitude will result in Chrysler's demise.

It's bye bye Chrysler for me... The 300M looks nice but as I've found out the hard way, looks are not everything (The Intrepid sure looked great back in 94 :).

Strength:

My Intrepid is very roomy and fun to drive.I am 6'4 with a family, but wanted a sporty vehicle. The Intrepid fit the bill offering room and a sporty feel.

Weakness:

The only weakness I have observed is the difficulty in parking the Intrepid. It is impossible to see the front, or rear of the vehicle from the drivers seat. This makes for difficulty when attempting to park.

Overall the Intrepid is a excellent vehicle. I recommend the ES model for the added horsepower. The autostick is a very nice option and comes in handy for city driving. Over the years I have owned sedans, sports cars and a mini van. The Intrepid offers the best of every vehicle I've owned. I recommend the Dodge Intrepid to anyone who expects performance from their vehicle, but has to take the wife and kids along for the ride. The purchase price for my Intrepid was $26,873.00. This price may seem a little high, but I got every option offered.

Strength:

Silky-smooth highway ride. Low interior noise. Very adequate but not superior gas mileage (24 city, 28 highway) Great on snow and wet pavement. Titanic size trunk. Styling is modern without beeing too futuristic looking.

Weakness:

Access into the car is a joke for those over 5'5". Radio too easily can be turned on full blast by bumping it with your hand.

We bought it at an auction for a steal. We drove this car to Michigan in December and it was better than a four wheel drive on the snow. You could drive for hours without getting restless. It is a great car that isn't too fancy or spartan. Just that right combo of optoins and affordability. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone.

Strength:

Great car for tall people. Plenty of features in the ES model. Design and style of the car was very nice.

Weakness:

Poor engineering. Unreliable. Too many trips to dealership for repair.

Bought this car 3 years ago and paid 15,500. When purchased, the car had 35K on it. The problems started around 40K. The car broke down on the highway twice while I owned it. First time was due to dealership, the second was never determined. It simply stopped running in the middle of a construction zone. Oxygen sensors replaced at 42K, new tires, air conditioning system failed completely, oil leaks. When I read about the fuel pump and the fires that resulted from the pump, I sold the car asap. I would advise anyone to do some research before buying this car. I eventually bought a '99 Honda Accord, a better choice.
