Strength:
-Roomy and big, can fit 6 people easily.
Weakness:
-With 3.3L engine, not much power I bought this car in 1996, great fun car on highway and long drive, but had lot of problems, most got fixed under warranty, (Glad took extended warranty) but now started thinking of replacing it with Maxima or Camry. Its not a reliable car specially when you drive 100 miles a day. Similar Products Used: Had Toyota Camry 1988 V6LE Great car |

Dodge Intrepid ES
Strength:
Lots of room in front and back seats. Tons of trunk space and back seats can fold down. Sufficient Power and Auto-Stick is handy. Smooth.
Weakness:
Not the most stylish front dash area where the radio and Air controls are. Blind spots in the rear and slightly in the front. The NEWER MODEL Dodge Intrepids are Very Good Cars!.... But stay away from the Older Models. I currently have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid ES (Newer Style) fully loaded and previously owned a 1995 Dodge Intrepid ES (Older Style). I had many problems with the older style, including fuel rail needed replacement, AC problems galore, a relay problem that would cause the car to cut off in the middle of traffic and not start for 1-minute to 3-hours! and many other problems that I can't remember. In short, stay away from the Older Model Intrepids which I believe is anything from year 1997 and earlier. The Newer Models which I believe started in 1998 are considerably more reliable from my experience. The design is much more stylish then the older models, and the Auto-Stick feature which allows you to change from fully automatic to somewhat manual is very handy. I use the Auto-Stick feature every time I want to accelerate quickly due to the increased control. A standard automatic doesn't normally change gears at a very high RPM after it has been punched unless you let off the gas a little, but Auto-Stick mode allows you to control when the gear changes. To get the most value for the money, get the car fully loaded: leather seats, sun roof, fog lights, 16-inch wheels(GoodYear Eagle GA tires aren't very good though), electronic seats driver/passenger, deluxe Infinity stereo, etc... The white dials in the dash are quite stylish, but the dash around the Air and Stereo are not exactly the most appealing. The car has a ton of leg room in the front and back(thanks to the cab-forward design) and the car is particularly smooth and comfortable, so many of my passengers tend to fall asleep after a fairly short while of driving :-) (especially in the back seat). The trunk has a ton of room and nicely designed. You can fill up to the rim of the trunk and not worry about not being able to get the lid closed because nothing from the trunk lid has to go down inside the compartment (unlike the older model that has a big elbow bar on each side that always hits any obstructions). If I have anything in the trunk towards the front, I practically have to climb inside the trunk just to get it because there is so much room. So far, the main problems I've had, was with the right rear window sticking on one occasion and the drivers side window sticking on another. Problems were fixed under warranty. I have 42,000 miles on the 1999 Intrepid and those were the only main problems I've had, whereas the 1995 older model Intrepid, I had a ton of problems over a period of 85,000 miles. In summary, get the older style Intrepid(1997 and below) and you're asking for trouble... get the Newer Style Intrepid (1998 and above) and you have a comfortable, stylish, reliable, family/sport touring vehicle. Strength:
powerful 3.3l motor and sporty exhaust give this car a high performance feel. The interior is huge for a car in this class. Good transmission
Weakness:
Inaccurate speedomometer. leaks oil often. had to replace entire electrical system 1 year after purchase. I paid 22,345 for a loaded ES with all the options except the 3.5 motor. i got this used with 450 miles on it. I would recommend it for large families with a driver who has a appetite for power. I think everyone should have a intrepid. Similar Products Used: '99 Ford Tauras, '96 Chevy Impala SS. the tauras rides better than the intrepid and the impala has a V-8 and has no problems. |

Intrepid ES
Strength:
This is a very roomy car for family outings - my husband is 6' and fits easily in the back seat. Very nice sized family vehicle.
Weakness:
Transmissions - TERRIBLE..... on it's 3rd right now, going on 4.... bought it used in '96, and had I known the transmission had already been replaced, I never would have puchased the car. Fuel Pump - TERRIBLE..... went out right in middle of rush hour traffic with NO warning. A/C Condensing Unit - TERRIBLE.... had it replaced in '97... whole unit went out. Safety Recall on Fuel Rail O-Rings... Safety Recall on Control Arm Brackets for Engine Compartment...... Water Pump replaced..... Need I go on???? I believe that every major component has been replaced on this car since '96! I did buy it for a steal, but I would not recommend this car to anyone who wants a RELIABLE means of transportation.... this vehicle is used for the "family" vehicle. I am just grateful that I purchased the extended warranty package with this car. The sad part is that my father has worked for Chrysler for over 36 years.... but I will never purchase another Chrysler product. Not only is the car unreliable, but the dealership it was purchased from treats me as if I have no clue as to what I am talking about.... the attitude of "she's just another dumb girl who knows nothing about cars". Sorry, but I will go foreign next time around! Similar Products Used: Nothing similar |

Fun to drive, sort of makes you feel like your flying a jet with the cab forward design, great pick-up, roomy, looks different than the pack.

A couple of blind spots but you get used to it. A little tough to park 20,000 Highly recommend it. The only way I get rid of it is to upgrade to a 300M Similar Products Used: Drove a Cutlass Supreme, 5.0 for 14 years, loved that car too. |

Intrepid (not the ES version)
Strength:
Very stylish, very roomy, very reliable considering it had 118,000 miles (mostly highway) on it when I purchased it. Powerful, comfortable to drive, great-looking car (gotta love the looks of the front end!)
Weakness:
Minor things: the weatherstripping on 3 of the 4 doors is starting to come off (not really a problem), the power window on the front passenger side sometimes won't go up. I've read a lot about transmission problems with these cars and I also read an interesting thing that some people may have forgotten about. On all Chrysler automatic transmissions, USE CHRYSLER-TYPE 7176 TRANSMISSION FLUID. USING DEXTRON TYPES WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS! I experience stuttering in the transmission rarely and only for an instant when it occurs. It shifts like its supposed to more often than not. The A/C is not currently working, but I don't really want to use it enough to strongly consider fixing it. I've put more than 20,000 miles on since I bought it (probably close to 6 months ago) and have not had a single problem. A fitting in one of the rear tires broke, causing all the brake fluid to leak out (something undetectable in a normal safety inspection), but the dealer fixed that free-of-charge, and everything has been wonderful since. The headlights ARE NOT THAT BAD! Some people fail to realize that these headlights can be tilted slightly up or down so they project further ahead. IT DOES WORK, and they do offer very good illumination to the sides. Similar Products Used: None |

Style, performance, room and affordability
Weakness:
Difficulity parking due to poor viewing of the fromt end. Paint chips easily. I would strongly recommend this car to anyone with a desire to own a family sedan why maintaining that overwhelming desire to look and feel sporty while driving the family to the mall. The handling is outstanding and the interior is very spacious. I'm 6'2 and still find myself with plenty of legroom when driving or riding on the passenger side of the vehicle. The styling is unique and often leads to compliments and looks when cruisinig down the highway or through town. Great buy. Similar Products Used: Grand AM |

Strength:
It has excellent handling, power and highly aerodynamic. It has awesome looks ! The facia is sporty and seating position is comfortable.
Weakness:
Dodge should have given better wheels and tires, 15" wheels and 205/70 15 tires are not suitable for a big car like this. I got wider tires and my car handles 100 times better even on wet roads of OR and WA. I have been driving this car past six months and really amazed at its style, looks, comfort and power ! A full size sedan; and still peppy !! It solves both purposes utility and thrill (for the price). I go to Seattle almost every weekend and also to BC and I don't feel any fatigue. This car is so quite and smooth that you don't come to know about the distance. My friends were quite impressed with it and now they owe Intrepids too. I would say it is the best value for money !!!! Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus, Chrysler Concorde, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. Nothing compares to Intrepid (and Concorde, quite a bit) when it comes to comfort and pleasure. If you wann look for resale, go for Toyota and Hondas. |

Intrepid Sport
Strength:
Looks and space. Needed a big sedan for a growing family, but wanted something sporty. The Intrepid Sport was the perfect solution, and an affordable one. The 3.5L with Autostick gives great response and a "sports car" feeling.
Weakness:
Brakes have caused some problems, particularly in high humidity (squeaking). Cassette player drags and/or plays too slow (same problem I had with 1996 Intrepid). Outstanding value. My lease is about up on my 1997 Intrepid, and I will be purchasing (or leasing) a 2000 in the near future. I will opt for the ES this time with all the standard features -- a great value. May even take a look at the R/T!! Similar Products Used: Mercury Sable, Chevrolet Lumina, 1996 Intrepid, . The Intrepid offers much more room and comfort, and also exceeds in performance and reliability. |
