Seems to have good acceleration. Handles great! Very roomy. Get fairly decent fuel milage.
Weakness:
Left unused electrical plugs opent get moisture in rather than plug them. No place to put my CB. Listen people who complain about the engine loud at high speed: it is normal!! You are not in a v-6 or v-8, and even those engines are loud at extreme speeds(70 mph up). What do you expect from a small engine? Similar Products Used: 1982 dodge aries, 1986 dodge omni. There is an awsome amount of improvments. |

Good looking car.
Weakness:
Unreliable transportation. While it was praised as "Car of the Year" based on it's low price, cool looks, and how fun it was to drive, it is obvious those issuing the awards didn't have to live with this car for a substantial amount of time. Oh, I loved this car for the first year or so, then the problems started. This piece of junk lemon has had the engine oil gasket replaced 3 times, the A/C has gone out 3 times, I've had the transmission replaced, new brake pads squeal like crazy when the road gets wet to the point that it FAILED inspection though I had new pads on it (I now only get it inspected on dry days), and if I leave the car parked out in the rain during heavy thunderstorms I now get INCHES of water built up in the back seat floor board because because water drains in through the back doors (yes, the windows are rolled up). Oh and there were other annoyances like the car's computer frying, the frequent wheel misalignments, the almost yearly battery replacements, etc. Similar Products Used: None |

MONEY PIT!! The car is worthless. We just finished paying it off in Nov-00, and here is a list of major failures: Don't buy, you would be better off walking. The past two years this car has all but fallen apart. It is barely 5yrs old, and has 78k miles. I have gone through as many sets of tires as I have head gaskets and transmissions. To date I am still looking for some type of resolve. Dealing with the folks at Chrysler thus far has been a nightmare. The dealership has done nothing. Basically they say since the warranty has expired it is no longer their problem. Dealing with Chrysler's customer service department has been a real treat!! They hide behind rehearsed answers, and have zero accountability for producing a lousy product. I can't understand how a vehicle with such a terrible track record is still able to be sold. You might be one of the lucky few to own a problem free 95' Neon........I'd rather gamble in Vagas not on my car!! Similar Products Used: Buy a schwin!! |

Very nice looking car. Everyone who towed it complimented me on what a cute car it was.
Weakness:
Money pit. Totally unreliable. Requires frequent and extensive repairs. This car was fine for almost the first year, then it started stalling unexpectedly even at freeway speed. The stalling problem was computer related and happened approximately every 6 months while I owned the car. Then the engine mounts broke. Then they broke again. Then the wheel hub disintigrated. I replaced them three times. Then the air conditioner went out. Then it went out again. Then it began overheating for no apparent reason. The trunk and doors leaked. I would no sooner have the dealer fix something than it would happen again. Once that problem was solved within a few weeks the car would need repairs again for another mysterious problem. I doubt I'll ever buy another Dodge after this experience. Similar Products Used: 1970 Ford Pinto (better) 1988 Nissan Sentra (vastly superior) |

Excellent acceleration, sporty looking car, great gas milage, fun to drive, inexpensive insurance (as opposed to an eclipse), great car for anyone who enjoys the drive in driving, also excellent for younger adults, good trunk size, quiet on the highway but will roar when you want it to.
Weakness:
Two problems i have seen, One the window seals are not exactly highquality actually they stink when you drive over 55 you get a whistling sound. Second ive had a problem with my check engine light coming on I am told I just need the CPU reset which will be done shortly. Other than that I have found nothing wrong except that it is under rated for its ability. An excellent car for the daily driver as well as the aspiring racer. With many aftermarket parts and an excellent reliability record, I would recomend this car to who ever is looking for afordability mixed with power Similar Products Used: compaired to an eclipse, celica, mustang, camero, 200sx, civic... the neon can definitly keep up with the aftermarket race. Many performance parts are available ie. www.modernperformance.com . As for overall horsepower and driving fun you will not find a better bang for your buck. |

Lack of power, choppy ride and its a DODGE I bought this car used with 134,000 km. It was only $6000 3 years ago and I needed a car. When I drove it off the lot, the transmission went out. The garage replaced it free of charge ( warranty ). It has been somewhat realiable but cost me a few in the summer. I had to put a new alternator and it costed $500. Then in the winter, when I put on the defroster, this sreaching sound like came out. I took it to the dodge dealer and they told me that my belt was gone. So, it costed me 30 dollars and I thought it was going away. Guess what, it didn't! I took it back and they told me it was my head gasket and it would cost me $ 1200. I said " no way " because the car is not worth a bloody dime. So, I decided to take it back to that garage. I always trusted the garage but I had my doubt about this one. The garage people told me that there was a bolt missing in the alternator. The screaching sound was caused by there wasn't enough current and it was using a lot of power. That bolt would regulate the power. It would cost 70 bucks. IT WORKED!!!! The sound is gone and the garage told me that the gasket is fine. Similar Products Used: Pontiac Sunbird ( Better ) |

Weakness:
had to replace a few minor parts such as breaks and roters. also had to replace all gaskets and the master cylander. i think anyone who is looking for an economical car this is it. it has worked out well for this college student. i would recomend that you check the car out though before you go out to buy it, because many cars will have a problem that is reacuring and will be in the shop every other week to get it fixed. Very low maintenance. Bought it used by the original owner, he owned it for 5 years with little to no problems. Upon purchase (like any car I buy used) I had the engine tuned up (sparks replaced, belts, etc...), the brakes (the original owner only replaced them once.) and the O2 Sensor replaced. Haven't had any problems ever. Drives through snow and rain like it's not there, and has a very powerful transmission. Kills a lot of the competition cars. I usually have the oil changed every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever is first. Extremely fun to drive, I guess according to Dodge they tried to fit the feeling of a Viper into a compact car, I think they did a good job, or it wouldn't be so fun! Of course, all this is based on a manual transmission, because all the true drivers out there know, there's no better! It takes impacts very well, I was hit in the rear, and it cracked the rear-bumper cover and the taillight housing on the drivers side which cost me only $275 to repair. I'm a stranger at the gas stations and a terror on the street racers. Overall this car has been excellent and is the admiration of many of my friends and fellow Neon owners. It's very easily customizable with aftermarket accessories (such as the infamous K&N air filter), which turns it into quite the power house.
Weakness:
Damn frameless windows! My experience with this Neon has been a pleasant one indeed. And though after reading about the newer Neons and their infamous problems and how the engine has been de-tuned (lower speed performance) I doubt I'll buy any of the newer Neons. Besides, I hate the new body styles, they look too "eggish." Similar Products Used: Subaru GL (sucked!) and Cadillac SeVille (Uhm, right, like a Neon can compare to a Cadillac!). Just chews up the Honda's, Geo's, Ford's, Toyota's, and even some trucks and other cars! |

Cute, roomy, RELIABLE!! I drive 600-1000 miles per week, and it has always been raring to go!
Weakness:
That pesky "check engine" light, which turns out to be nothing mechanically wrong, but likes to stay on, anyway. The dealership I bought it from has turned out to be awful (when I returned in the early days for routine services). A few quirky noises here and there (an interesting high-pitched whistle comes and goes when the air conditioning is on for more than a few minutes, for example), but that's just its personality! Squeaky brakes, but as long as they stop the car who cares? I bought my Neon new in 1995, and it currently has 190,000 miles on it. I have kept up with the recommended service, and even done some preventative maintenance on it when suggested by my mechanic. I've never had a problem with it, and I plan to run it as long as it will go! A good car for students (and anyone who needs cheap, reliable transportation), but YOU MUST FOLLOW THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE!! Due to my long commute to work, I change the oil every 3-4 weeks, and I've never had any problems with the engine. Similar Products Used: None |
