Strength:

Very reliable, only routine maintenance needed. EPA numbers accurate for normal driving (22 city, 30 highway) Ride is quite smooth for the type of car it is. Good stereo by factory standards, never skips on CD's (even CD-RW's), sounds better than Evo's, STI has no radio. Similar performance (except hard acceleration from a stop) to AWD cars (STI, Evo) costing much more. Has factory boost guage, which the STI and Evo lack. In my opinion, nicer interior overall than the STI and Evo. Very comfortable standard seats. Full size spare can fit in tire well with low intrusion into trunk area. Weaknesses of 03 model (no Limited Slip differential, no sunroof) addressed for 2004 model year. Very Good handling for a high-power FWD car.

Weakness:

Gas Tank too small (12.5 gallons). Rear Wing too large (BUT a smaller Neon SXT rear wing can be retro-fitted, using the same trunk mounting holes). The factory should offer a small-wing and/or no-wing option. Exhaust might be too loud for some people (they could have an exhaust shop add a muffler). Side bolsters on front seats make it hard for older persons to enter/exit the car. Demands more driver skill than STI or Evo to accelerate hard from a stop. Stock tires terrible in snow, snow tires a must. (same for STI and Evo, AWD does not help you STOP any faster!) Stage 1 and 2 modification kits for this car (sold by dealers) are not CARB approved for emissions purposes.

Great Value for the Money

Test-drove the STI and Evo VIII. Aside from the "AWD Launch", the SRT4 provides similar performance for about $10k less.

Strength:

Everything everyone else said.

Weakness:

Every car has weaknesses they are made by humans.

I am writing this review because people are talking smack about the SRT and they have never driven one or raced one. I did a little dollar mod on my car which gives it 16 lbs of boost and I have been pulling STI's no problem. No I am not full of Sh#$ this car is fast and no it is not AWD big deal. Don't you know what Nitto's are. Duh! Just because it spins off the line doesn't make it slow that just means it has lots of power. The STI is faster than the EVO and I pull STI's. Yes they beat me across the intersection and then I pull up in second gear and pull by in third and walk away in fourth. Instead to talking about how you think they are crap why don't you race one, and be realsitic. I don't mean some WRX that has had 10,000's worth of mods I mean semi stock for semi stock, you will find out the hard way. If you beat one with your stock WRX you are full of it. And also this car being FWD who rally races their EVO or WRX? You race on the street light for light. So stop the bull with the FWD hang up. Sorry, but I am out every weekend doing this not sitting around with no ride wishing I had a WRX or Evo and talking smack about a car you have never raced. And don't get me wrong I like the WRX's and Evo's but when the stage II comes out for $895.00 it will be game over. plus the SRT weighs almost four hundred pounds less than the STI, the advantage of only being FWD. Race one don't talk garbage about one.

I'm looking to buy a new car relatively soon, I've test drove everything from a Mazda Rx-8 to the SRT-4. I don't really like american made cars cause I've own lots and they just don't last. Who cares how fast your car goes if it doesn't last for anymore then 5 years before you have to start dumping loads of money into it. Sure the SRT is fast, acceleration is pretty good. Ride is good, shifting is just decent. The most important deal is it's cheap, but once again you'll probably make up for that later when it blows on ya. How can Dodge make/sell almost the most expensive trucks (trucks that last I might add) and then make a care with turbo and all that for 20,000 when other cars of this caliber are 30,000 and up? so you have to ask yourself how cheaply made are the parts they used, where did they skimp.

Power, price and, to a much lesser degree, handling and breaking.

Weakness:

Short turning radio, uncomfortable seats, stiff ride. Lack of LSD in vehicles sold in Mexico (annoying!). I would sugest optional leather interiors.

A sports car without that recognition by most specialized magazines: according to these sources, it has the performance (acceleration, maximum speed, slalom speed, breaking...), but, apparently, its more than humble roots prevent such award. Instead, some magazines prefer to include in the sports cathegory cars with less performance. Or perhaps with much better PR? I live and use my srt-4 in Mexico City, 2,200 above sea level, and the turbo is a very considerable advantage at this alttitude. Mine is one of the very first, commands attention everywhere I go and surprises everybody when I decide to release its full power in the streets. On the higway, I easily surpass anything equal or below Mustang GT's, probably due to the turbo advantage at higer alttitudes. I find the breaking and handling good, clearly above average, yet not spectacular.

Power, and lots of it. You also need good brakes to handle all that power, and the SRT-4 has them. You either love or hate the viper style seats...I happen to love 'em.

Weakness:

I've owned mine for a month now and can't find anything I'd want to change. Even the factory sound system is pretty good.

This pocket rocket from Dodge is the most fun you can have with your clothes on for 20 grand. It does many things well, but the heart of all this fun and joy is a turbocharged 230 horsepower four banger that pushes (pulls) it from 0 to 60 in a hasty 5.6 seconds. Yes, there are faster cars, but not many, and none near the price of this one.

FAST Fun to drive affordable limited slip (on 04 models) semi-sneaky look, b/c its a neon! oh did I mention its fast

Weakness:

its a dodge, and a dodge neon at that. no rear power windows-(kinda retarded) Front wheel Drive stock shifter sucks (get the Mopar Short throw) gas mileage isn't as good as I'd hoped, even when I'm nice to it. (minor)

The SRT-$ is an awesome machine, I've had it just over a month, and its great. Reminds me of the old DSM's (turbo eclipse) I used to own. This car is fast, Don't go buy one for your 16 yr old son. The ride is good, the roadnoise isn't too bad, there is some wind noise, so it doesn't seal up as good as some Jap. cars, but you have to remember its only 20k. I suggest if your even thinking about getting one to goto www.srtforums.com to ask questions, everyone there is great, but use the search function or you'll get flamed.

stage upgrades that will make it even faster. aftermarket support from mopar. affordable price. great warranty. sounds like a v8 when the exhaust kicks in. it doesn't sit really low.

Weakness:

insurance rates are a crime for this car. stage upgrades are not all available yet. launching the car from a stand still can be difficult. it only takes synthetic motor oil, and premium fuel so maintenance is very expensive.

this is one nice car. i went from a civic SI to this car, and im beating my self up for not getting into one earlier. the car draws a lot of attention a lot of people believe that it is a plain old neon. if you think that it is anything like its little brothers you will be surprised when you either get smoked by one, or you actually ride out in one. i had mine for a month and it was almost stolen so watch out. it would be best that you got some type of security on it.

Power, power, power. This car is quick and nimble. It's ready for the street or track right from the dealer's showroom. I'm 6'2" and have room to spare on the inside.

Weakness:

With the front door fully open, it's quite a stretch to reach out and close it.

Without a doubt, this car is the most fun and performance you can have for twenty grand. Yes, there are faster cars, but at least I don't have to take a part-time job to make the payments.
