I have never had more problems with a car than I have with my Grand Am. My electric driver's side window is broken. I have seen at least two Grand Am's on the road with the same problem. Everything electric in my car has been a problem since day one. The clock shows up in foreign language. The AC has 5 differnt settings, 1 and 2 you can't feel anything and when you turn it up to 3 it blows you out. Let's see....what else. After 100,000 miles you might as well throw the thing away. I have put so much money into that car. Don't go by looks when it comes to buying this car. I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I have.

Handles like a much more expensive car than it actually is. Looks awesome. 100 Watt premium system will blow you away, the fact that I have over 200,000 miles and it's still running strong. Oh yeah, I still have the FACTORY CLUTCH!! When do most people replace clutches at? 100,000? and mine still grabs at the top yet? That kinda tells you something about the boys at Mopar... built for life, not sales. And it's the easiest thing in the world to work on. Unlike my GM products which used brackets that held brackets and held plates that held all the crap together.

Weakness:

Unfortunetly, the wheel bearings were replaced. Front drivers side one broke at highway speed and ripped the tire right off. And the AC problems are true. Mine broke... the solution however is simple. Do not replace the compressor with a Mopar part. Get one from Auto Zone or something. My replacement compressor from Auto Zone has lasted quite some time now. Also, the steering rack makes goofy noises when you hit a bump, but nothing's broken... just groans sometimes.

I don't know what some of these other people did to their Stratus', but mine is at over 200,000 miles and still running strong. It's tight, solid, awesome sound system, and one hell of a looker compared to other cars even of current day. (take the new Chevy Malibu for example... barf)

Roominess, smooth ride, it has been a very economical car for me!

Weakness:

Brakes/brake pads

I don't understand all these reviews. I bought my 99 Stratus and have not had problem #1. I LOVE IT. It is roomy, a very smooth ride, and i do have a pretty silent engine. I do agree, i seem to have to change my brake pads often, but that is the only thing i have had to have done besides routine oil changes, etc. I love my stratus, and have recommended it to friends. I don't know what i would have done if i had gotten a lemon like the other reviewers, i cannot afford mechanical repairs regulary!

Roomy and confortable

Weakness:

Everything under the hood; too many costly repairs

I would not recommend this product to anyone expect a mechanic who can afford to fix the problems himself. This car has been nothing but a headache and endless repairs...brakes, belts, and now the headgasket. I would love to get rid of it, but no one will buy it. I will never buy a dodge product again.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, roomy, a lot of power, never hesitates to start, great sound system

Weakness:

I recommend this car, just DO NOT get the 4 cylinder...go for the 2.7 V6

I really don't understand all of these reviews. Do people ride the brakes a lot? What grade of brakes are you replacing them with? Get ones with a lifetime warranty. It's a known fact that the 4 cylinder Dodge engines blow head gaskets around 50,000 miles, but I have had no problems with my 24 valve V6. I bought the car at 2 years old. It's now 9 years old and the only thing wrong with it is that the air conditioning doesn't work from lack of use. The car has its original battery. The gas lines have rusted from all the NY salt on the roads (9 years is kind of old). I have not replaced the brakes more than the standard maintenance. I would say it has had the same set of brakes for the last 2 years at least. I gets good gas mileage. At 70,000 miles it still has great power. The car also has the original exhaust system, muffler included - the 95 ES came with a stainless steel exhaust system. Wheel bearings have been replaced.

Similar Products Used:

87 Chrysler LeBaron GTS (not as good a product, but lasted 12 years), 95 Ford Escort - no problems at all.

Strength:

Roomy and comfortable, plus it's a smooth ride

Weakness:

Brakes, fuel system, belts

It is the biggest headache I have ever owned in my entire life. For my first car I was screwed over big time. 2 weeks after I bought it, I had to go get new brakes, and get the belts changed. 2 weeks after that, it's started hesitating real bad on start-up, so I took it back and they told me they haven't made silent cars yet and that I was imagining things. I took it to another place where they changed the air filter, and told me the tires were bad and that my power steering belt was almost broke. Got that fixed. Now it's still hesitating, which is a problem in the fuel line, to change the fuel filters the easiest one to get to is through underneath the back-seat, the other one is basically impossible to get it, and if it's not that it's my fuel injectors plus I need a new muffler. I love this car and I HATE this car. If I could do it all over again I would have NEVER bought it. I've put $700 dollars of work into the car and have owned it for approx 8 months, the parts are expensive, it's constantly in and out of the shop, and it's set-up so you can barely do any work on it yourself. I paid way too much for this car for how much headache it's given me.

BRAKES DON'T LAST, WHEEL BARINGS BREAK, WINDOWS COME OFF TRACK, DEALER'S DON'T LIKE TO FIX WARRENTY WORK

HORRIBLE, NIGHTMARE. IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT YOU BUY A PIECE OF CRAMP BUT WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONGE AND IS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTEY THE DEALER REFERS TO IT AS "WE CAN'T DO ALL THE WORK FOR FREE" AND NOW HAS TURNES INTO A LAW SUIT. GOOD LUCK DODGE, MAYBE YOU'LL STOP SCREWING PEOPLE OVER.

Strength:

Great pickup with the V6 No major maint. requirements until 100K (plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc) Sticks to the road like glue with the right tires Very comfortable riding Large enough for family but good mpgs Good sight lines, no blind spots

Weakness:

>$ for 100K tuneup ($600) brakes seem to go quickly Weak factory stereo (even with premium sound)

Best car I've ever owned, no problems up to 90K (other than normal maintenance, tires and brakes), traded in on new Intrepid SXT and now want another Stratus.
