Weakness:

glare from dash thru front window can be blinding

I bought my Dodge brand new and boy was it the biggest mistake I've ever made!!! What a LEMON, Well lets see I just got back from the shop after being there for 3 wks. The problems it was there for, when I press on brakes my brake light goes on a dings, annoying chirpping noise from front end, humming transmission, knocking in steering, flickering dash lights, rattle from rear back tire, back passenger window control won't work, humming in wheel area front drivers side. The senario, the brakes are at 20%, need new rotars they are below secs, I have complained about the brakes before for being loud and grinding sounds. They say it normal. I needed new hub bearing in the front driver tire. By the way my car only has 35,000 miles on it. chirpping noise they couldn't identify, but I have had it in for the same noise before twice and it was fixed for maybe 50 miles. The window it was a connection problem. The humming in tranny they replaced gears in. The steering they replaced rack and pinnon, it stll is not working right it is making the same noise again. The flickering dash lights they couldn't identify it either, I'm sure because that would be to much work and not a solution or fix it can be made. Overall my car has been in the Dodge service center at least 6 times for this kind of crap and 20% of the time they can fix it temporary fix that is. The noise from the rear passenger wheel is from a clip on the brake pad that they say is not covered under warranty, they don't cover brake pads that is a wear and tear. So one more thing the annoying brake light well, they say it cuz my brakes are gone and they filled the fluid, dumb guys there are no sensors on the bake pads and the light does not go on because of that!! They blamed all the problems on the brakes because I refused there $500 brake fix job, my husband can do it for $100 and as far as Dodge service centers go they suck. My car runs worse now then before I took it in. Now I am going to have to take it to another Dodge service center because the guys pissed me off and just wanted to get me out the door because my car being under warranty doesn't make $. I will never buy another Dodge and would tell anyone looking at one to look the other way. They are Lemons and I am in search for a huge Lemon sticker to apply to the car.

Strength:

Good interior room, extremely dependable (one day in the shop in the course of 110,000 miles). Good gas mileage considering my wife drives 80mph+ (on 4 lane highway) for 100 miles a day and 12 more miles of gravel roads.

Weakness:

Low power for passing on two lane roads. AC quit prematurely.

Bought the car with 70,000 miles from its orginal owner (he bought it right out of college). We now have 188,000 miles on it. Replace the brakes at 100,000 miles (Midas with life time warranty) and the AC quit working at 145,000 miles (not repaired). 4 cylinder engine runs great and uses no oil, gets about 28 miles per gallon. No other problems. Have just bought a 2004 with the V6 as a new family car (replaces 1999 Taurus), am selling this one to a nephew to take to college ($1200). I personally warrantied the car for another 5K. Good car for the money. Hope my new V6 SE is as good.

Nice ride. Drives well. Looks good.

Weakness:

Nit picky problems. Most annoying and unusual. e.g. coating coming off where door open handle is (inside car)Gas guage only works to 1/2 tank and stops. Many more.

Although the card is 6 years old, it only has 23000 mile on it. Regular maint program was followed. Just out of warranty and there's a head gasket leak. Oil leaking externally from the gasket. Costing $1100.00 to fix. I will be getting rid of this car as soon as my NEW Nissian, is paid off. I believe I am finished with chrysler because every chrysler car I ever owned has needed the head gasket replaced. I have a 87 daytona that has had the gasket replaced 3 times and needs it again. Duster V6 3.0, heas gasket at 50000 miles. Turismo head gasket at 45000.

Fun, pretty reliable car...great for anyone: male or female, young or old. Also, not a real expensive car. Gas mileage is average I would say.

Weakness:

Some very minor problems...rear drivers side window is off track, minor transmission problems (costing no more than $100 to fix completely...other than that it's been great!

I love my stratus! Im a teenager and it has been a pretty good car so far. Purchasing it with about 42k miles and now having around 72k miles... it's been very reliable. Recently, I have had some minor problems... needing new brakes, a new belt in front, very minor transmission problems, and a few other minor issues. I would recommend a Stratus to anyone who wants a fun car that looks mature, but not like a "granny" car. My only problem is mine didn't come with a cd deck, only a tape deck. I need one of those, so if anyones heard of a cheap one... please write me. thanks

Model Reviewed: Stratus ES 2.5 V6

Strength:

Nice power, roomy seats, quality audio system, the cupholders in the back are cool, like that the backseat folds down for more room. Oh yeah, it's got great ground clearance.

Weakness:

Looks kinda dorky after awhile, after 65,000 miles expect to be taking it to the shop. Wind noise, uncomfortable seats on long drives. Transmission has a noticeable lag from 1st to 2nd, and struggles sometimes to downshift from 3rd to 2nd (only on hills, though).

My dad lent me the Stratus as my daily driver shortly after I turned 16. The car had 50,000 miles on it, and a great track record for NOT having any costly mechanical problems. The car was great for high school. Very roomy backseat, ample room in the front as well. With the 2.5, it had a great pick up, and put most of my friends loaner cars to shame (aka Ford Contour, Nissan Maxima, Acura Integra, Ford Taurus). Those other cars were just base models, but still, the Stratus could stay with similarly priced midsizes and compacts. The car was always reliable, up until about 64,000 miles. That's when things on it started to need replacement; power steering pump, belts, hoses, other minor things. Mechanical stuff that didn't drain too much out of the bank account (except for the power steering pump). After longer drives (2 hours and up), the front seats became quite uncomfortable, and the backseat didn't feel too great either. Even with the lumbar support for the driver's seat, it still got painful. Wind noise was pretty bad, too. Bearable, but after 3 hours of it, you're ready to make a pitstop. Just have the radio up for long drives with it. Now the car is at 72,000 miles, and after it's 70,000 mile tune-up, the starter went out. THAT wasn't cheap. You'll notice that it's gone out when you keep blowing the fuse for the ignition/starter. After that not so cheap fix, the Stratus has been an OK car. But now that I'm out of high school, I think it's time to move on to something more me. I definately outgrew it's looks and what seems like lack of power now. Great for back then, but now I'd rather have an '04 Stratus RT coupe. THOSE are cool.

This car has become a money pit. In December 2003, I had to spend $750 on transmission work. In June 2004 I had to spend over $100 to replace a blower motor. Then I found out my compressor is going bad that same week, and that that will cost around $1150 to fix/replace. Now, in August 2004 my Check Engine light came on. I spent $480 to have that fixed. Well sort of. I just drove it home from the dealer, and the light's back on again. Doing a search on the Internet, I see that some people have had good luck with their Dodges so far. BUT I have also seen many people experience problems left and right with their Dodge, costing them a lot of money. In some cases, a LOT OF MONEY. Stay away from Dodge. I'm going back to foreign cars. I had a Mazda that I ran for TEN years up to 215,000 miles with NEVER a problem. I then sold it for about $1000 bucks. I got my money's worth out of that car. There used to be that big hype about buying domestic cars made right here in the good ole US. I did just that, and look where it got me.

Reliable, good speakers, theives won't target this ugly car

Weakness:

head gasket, not much power

Good car for the most part. Purchased car with 60,000 gentle miles on it. I purchased extended warranty which covered usual head-gasket replacement. Since then, every year or so I have had a problem with it, these include: wheel bearings, clutch cable, wiper motor, and minor AC problem. Just recently, I blew out back brakes completely which made for a fun ride home. The whole thing cost me about $350. I have driven this car through summer and winter in Maine for the past four years and have been fairly impressed that this car has been able to withstand my driving habbits with only two problems (brakes, headgasket). Also has a nice stock speakers. I replaced the head unit and speakers sound awesome with new CD player in car. Would be nice if the car had a little more pep, but what can you expect out of the 2.0L engine? Have about 133,000 miles on it and considering selling because it has lost its fun.

Too many leaks. A/C and heater only works on high

Car was awesome until about 70K. Thats when I got an oil leak and the A/C and heater only works on high. Now at 85K the transmission leaks. Other than that I havnt had any problems with it. My inlaw has the Plymoth Breeze and hes had to replace the head gaskett and the transmission. He also has the same problem with his A/C and heater. I have the 2.4L model. Great power compared to the 2.0 model my inlaw has.

Clutch is nice, havnt had any problems so far. Very nice and efficient on gas, high 20's in miles per the gallon. Like i said, lots of potential.

Weakness:

Not a whole lot, i think a 2.0 is a little small, 2.4 or so would be better. I cant think of any thing at the moment, so far i havnt found any problems. hard to get through fire wall if running a power wire for an amp through, but that is my problem.

So far i like this car, its a 2.0, five speed, with a sports tune. This car has lots of potential if you want to deck it out. COmes with a factory amp(looks between 100-250 watts). I have yet to put my real system in, but already i have beat out some of my friends who have a real system. Nice sized car, 4 doors, can fit 5 comfortably. Has 93,500 miles on it and i havnt had any problems and either did the previous owner.

Weakness:

The reliablitly of the V6 The poor showing of the I-4 2.0 (Okay for a Neon not a Stratus) Few or no manual trasmission options.

This car is an extremely reliable car. From the out side it looks okay lacking some areas of style, but the overall look works. Enter the car though and you would think you are in family sedan not a compact. The contols are all well placed and the veiw is good.
