Strength:

Tough dependable car. No major problems. Car handles very well. Great on long trips.

Weakness:

Parking is a little tough due to the size of the car.

Bought new April 1999. Has never let us down after 111,000 miles. I replaced the IAC valve at 80,000 miles. I replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner at 110,000 miles (original). Rear brake pads replaced at 75,000 miles. Front pads need to be replaced soon (original pads). Recently replaced the original platinum spark plugs. It was a relatively easy procedure compared to most cars, due to the COP ignition. And of course have done regular maintenance like oil changes and fuel and air filters and such. I would not hesitate to buy another one of these fine vehicles.

Strength:

Cheap and easy to find. Reliable. Cheap to run and maintain. Cheap and standard parts. Good in-class mileage. Snappy low-end acceleration and passing power. Outstanding visibility. Very spacious-- easily accomodates 5 adults and even 6 if necessary. Cavernous trunk. The last V8.

Weakness:

Stigma of driving an "old man" car. Ugly and unrefined. Cloth seats get nasty after years of not vacuuming them. CD player should be standard. Steering is way too loose. Needs better gear ratio. Wearing a suit or sunglasses makes me look like a cop in an unmarked car, which I want to avoid.

Mechanical perfection. I purchased the car in August 2000 from my local dealer as a fleet return with 23,000 miles, I'm guessing as part of a corporate motor pool. It was the cheapest car on the lot at $15,988 when I test-drove it, then I came back two weeks later and they had dropped the price $500 because no one wanted it (!!!). It's a nice red color, unfortunately no leather but hey it was a fleet car. I have been nothing short of delighted with virtually every aspect of my car and I plan to drive it until it doesn't drive anymore. I figure 200,000+ miles will be possible. I recently had the opportunity to trade my Crown Vic for a Volvo S80, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather just keep mine. I'm looking into modding it with a higher gear ratio, leather interior, etc. Recently added police interceptor grille which is nice. The driver door keypad has been my favorite feature so I can keep an extra set of keys/credit cards in the trunk in case I lose my keys or wallet. I admit it doesn't have the style of a European luxury car but it sure smokes the Eurotrash in terms of avoiding repairs and expenses. In the four years I've owned the car, I've personally put 64,000 miles on for a total of 87,000 now. No breakdowns or massive failures of any kind. One time I accidentally sprayed water into the air filter which caused the check engine light to come on after a cylinder misfire, but it fixed itself after a couple of days like the owner's manual says. Other than oil changes at Jiffy Lube, I've done the following repairs at my local mechanic's shop (NOT the dealer!): Replace all brake pads at 70,000: $400. Replace shocks at 70,000: $500. Lubricate squealing steering joints at 65,000: $90. As you can see, 4 years and 87,000 miles and $990 in repairs is pretty good. I replaced the tires at 78,000 miles with the OEM Michelin Symmetry ($415). which seems a little soon but I do tend to thrash them. I also replaced the battery at 85,000 miles with a Diehard brand at Sears ($105) because of finicky starting that I attribute to the laptop I installed which was draining the battery and prevented it from holding a charge. The problem hasn't recurred. The standard battery is actually pretty good but I figured why gamble on my baby? The Crown Vic is designed to be efficient because the police pursuit market demands it. Thankfully, it demands 87 octane gas. The mileage is even pretty good (18 city, 25-27 hwy, 21 overall). The LX version is somewhat better than standard trim so it's a nice balance and usually not too much more expensive when purchased used. This car is perfect for someone on a budget and is the most car for the money I have ever seen. For the price of a used Honda or BMW 3-series you can have this fine automobile, and I promise you won't be disappointed. I recommend a pre-owned model with around 30,000 miles which can be picked up on ebay for about $8,000. Don't worry too much about maintenance expenses because nothing really fails. In my trunk you'll find a gear bag with tools, supplies, and other essentials; a lock box with extra keys and credit cards; extra oil and coolant; a laptop computer; sleeping bag; full-size spare tire; cigarette lighter spotlight; and a Remington 870 shotgun. And there's _still_ room for a week's worth of luggage!

CrAp NoNe!!!!!

This car is so nice. It is so smooth and I just love it. It is so so soooo fast. I have beat Firebirds and Corevett off the line many times. My parents drive both of those and I beat both of them plus many people on the street. I have not really had much problems with my FDCRNVIC P-71: I had to replace the oli pan and it cost so much money, see the oil pan is between the engine and the axile and had to pay to have the engine raised. The brake lines snapped at 123,000 and it was a mess.I replaced the rear brakes the front were still pretty good. It was the first time they had been changed since the car was built back in 1993 in Canada. It is now 2003 and they were bad. They were split and broken to pieces. The front shocks are brand new they electronicly controlled and they are AIR SHOCKS. I have added the K&N high performance air filter and I put the new thing in the Tornado. Let me tell you from expierence that really does increase gas mileage and pick up. It is a former Oregan city police department car from Ohio. It is so nice and really clean. E-Mail me and I will send you a photo. The engine has been all cleaned and it so shinny. 1993 FDCRNVICPI cars rock that letters stand for if you don't know Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. The car is white. My P-71 has more than 400 HRPW

Strength:

My 1992 Ford Crown Victoria is a special Police Interceptor edition. It had a 4.6 litre,DOHC 410 H.P engine. The transmission is a 4-speed W overdrive. The rearend has 3:73:1 positive track.I was very skeptical when the previous owner told me that this car had 410 h.p.so i went to Columbus,Ohio to get a rear wheel dyno test done on it.The drive up there was proof alone that this car had power. When I got to the speed shop all of my questions were answered.410 at the rear wheels.I've got all the documentation to prove to anyone who is a skeptic like I was.

Weakness:

none

I think the Ford Crown Victoria is one of the best cars i have ever driven. It has plenty of power and room to accomidate anybodys daily needs.

Excellent car. Rides is smooth, design is excellent, dependable and good gas mileage for a larger car (I average 21 mpg).

Weakness:

When new the brakes squeaked, but that stopped after new pads were installed.

I bought this car new. I think it is one of the best cars I have ever driven or owned. I have had minimal problems and would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Strength:

Strong 4.6 engine. Nice ride.

Weakness:

Ford needs to improve the interior trim pieces. The trim pieces are very similar too the interior trim pieces of a mid 90's ford taurus.

Overall the car has been very good. I purchased it last year, with a bad transmission. Replaced the tranny, and the car has been great since. For a young perfessional, the car is very nice and a great cruiser. This is a nice family car. You would think a young person like me would be driving some honda or acura product, wrong!!! I drive american, and I'm proud to drive a real american car.
