Strength:

-Great for the back roads -an economy car that is actually a joy to drive

Weakness:

-its a ford, which means tons and tons of recalls -in 2000, no power doors or windows available with standard tranny on zx3 -design is beginning to look goofy after awhile

Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, than drive a fast car slow. thats what this car is all about. with 130 hp, its not gonna win any drag races but with adequet power and great steering feel, it is a car thats great to toss around in the twisties. i admit that driving this economy car wont make you feel or look like a high roller but everything about it is an exercise in balance and control. with nible chassis and a slick 5-speed, driving this little pocket rocket always puts a smile on my face

The whole car!!!

This is the worse car I have ever purchased! I have had it in the shop 9 times in the last 11 months! TOO MANY TIMES! Mostly it has been the transmission leaking. They replaced the transmission at 24,500 miles-- who ever heard of a transmission being replaced so soon! Since, I have had transmission fluid leaking constantly. Beyond that, I have replaced the brake pads twice (only have 35,000 miles on the car), the door latch will not latch, and the front end sounds as if it is going to fall off. Not a good buy!!!

Strength:

I like the sound system Love the trunk room Like the look of the auto

Weakness:

Bad road noise

First year had to replace the brakes had it in the shop to have radio worked on 3 times. It would just go off and not come back on. The trunk doesn't want close. I have 4700 miles and just had the third fuel pump put on they said the first two were defective. I was told never to let the fuel get down to 1/4. Now the tran. seems to not shift right. I have extended warranty thank goodness. I have been towed 3 times because of the fuel pump.

Weakness:

dangerous, expensive to keep up,dealing with ford company

This was my first new car,I thought new car no problems, wrong.Had to replace the brakes in the first 3 months, the horn hardly works at all now.The tires are ready to be replaced. The cooling fans fell out of the front of the car driving down the road. There is noises in the front end, when i go over bumps it sounds like it is going to fall part.I put the car in park and got out to check my tire and when i went to get back in it jumped int gear slamming my arm in the door and breaking it in half. Not only will i never buy another focus i will never deal with ford company again. They do not want to take the blame for anythig, they stink

my car has roughly 60000 miles on it and I'm having all kinds of problems. the brakes were just replaced. not sure how many times before I bought it. I'm hearing a loud thumb in the transmission and I'm feeling it. I plan on selling this car as soon as possible and I will never buy another ford

Strength:

It's American and American Jobs. Good gas milage. Handles well. Looks sleek. Logically designed driver's compartment.

Weakness:

Money pit after 2 years. Gas gauage sticks at low when full. Ignition failures. Part availability and cost. No corporate pride in standing up and fixing known falures, unless they may get caught by Government or sued by a majority of Ford owners.

I got two of these cars as commuters for my wife and I. We each drive about 100 miles a day. This means the warranty expired after 1.5 years. The recalls were expected in a new line, but the quality of the vehicle was a shock. One day my wife turned off her car and the ignition would not work again. The closest Ford Dealership said the ignition was bad, but they would have to break the column to fix the ignition if it's not already broken and I will have to pay for it all, $1100. The tow truck drive told us that every Focus he towed was for a bad ignition lock and even Ford Road Service said they were having problems with the lock. My original dealer and the dealer where it was towed both said they have been replacing a number of ignition cylinders. I called Customer Service on the advise of my original service department and it went all the way up to the supervisor who told me “there is nothing we can do, because it is not a recall or under warranty.” They acknowledge that there have been a lot of ignition problems and that Ford put out a Technical Service Bulletin to assist the dealerships. The car is two years old and started as many times as any car that is still in warranty, but because we drive 100 miles each trip instead of 10, it is not covered. Ford can't recall the ignitions because they use the same one in MILLIONS of vehicles. Never buy two Fords at the same time and look for a vehicle with a longer warranty. I feel bad because a lot of our friends bought the same car after talking with us during the first year of ownership. Hopefully I can talk them into trading them while there is still time. It's a shame because the dealership and my original service department are good people stuck with bad merchandise to sell.

Okay my hubby bought me the car for Valentines Day. I was so happy I was in love. Until it was in the shop a week later for the fuel pump. This car is awful it has been in and out of the shop atleast once a month. I am so tired of this car it isnt dependable it tries to stall out when I come to a stop and when it idles. I have spoke with Ford costmer service atleast 4 times. We did alot of research on this car and I think mine may be a lemon. If anyone has had prob's like this I would love to know what to do.

Strength:

Competively priced at the low end of new cars. Decent acceleration for a small car.

Weakness:

High road noise. Automatic transmission shifts hard. You (or don't get) what you pay for.

I travel frequently for business and my company only pays for compact cars. I use this opportunity to try out different cars that I might be interested in buying. I have driven four different Focus cars this year ranging from 135 miles to 8,500 miles. I have not been impressed with any of these cars. I know that rental cars get abused, but a car with 135 miles on it should not have interior planels and knobs falling of. Two of the cars had problems with their automatic transmissions as they shifted very hard and made the car jerk. One of the cars had a starter that would make a a metal on metal scratching sound that made me cringe as it sounded like terrible damage was being done to the engine. One of the cars didn't have any problems. So if you are looking to buy one of these cars, cross your fingers and hope you are one of the lucky ones that gets one without many problems. I wouldn't take the chance though.
