Recalls, breaks go too soon

This car has had recalls, however it wasn't anything that I noticed. I received the recall letters through the mail and my dealer did a good job getting me scheduled. I love the way this car drives. I owned a Ford escort and it did not hug the turns like this car. I think it is a great sedan for the money. When I first bought this car in 2000, I was stopped in parking lots by several people asking me how I liked the car. I have had this car for 2 and half years and so far so good. I have 22,000 miles and I am starting to notice something with the front end. Hopefully it won't be anything to extensive. I did have to have the breaks replaced I thought that it was too soon for a new car. Oh well, you can't have everything. I do love the way the car drives, looks and feels.

Looks, Price, handling, very peppy, room, and reliability.

Weakness:

although peppy the Horsepower should have been higher. I believe if the HP were higher there would be more sales.

Focus rocks. I think it is the perfect vehicle for young families because it has good gas mileage, lots of room, style and so far very safe and reliable. I also think that it is very sporty for the younger guys, with all the mods out there it can be done to suit your style. I have put a few dollars into the look of mine and I must say its the best looking Focus I've seen in my city. Ford was great with the sale and will have my support for future buys from me, family and friends.

Fun and easy drive.......Fits anywhere.

Weakness:

Seems to get a little pushed around on the highway, especially around semi-trucks.

Great transportation car.......Just a little under horsepowered. At this time I have 18600 miles on it. And it has only been at the dealer twice. First time for check engine light and the second for the recall on the rear wheel bearing.Service ability of oil changes and general maintinence very easy.

Weakness:

Idles rough, stalls for no reason, engine smells hot all the time, car pulls right when braking.....

Well I've had my focus only 3 weeks and it's left me stranded 2 times! I've taken it back to the dealership and they say it had a bad fuel pump. On the way home from picking it up, it stalls again! I just stalls for no aparent reason and Ford says they don't see a problem. So, I have a brand new vehicle sitting in my driveway that I'm afraid to drive because I don't want to be stranded again. It will be in the shop for the second time next week, it only has 475 miles on it.

Gas mileage, front leg room ( 5 ft 6 in) A/C.

Weakness:

The engine (could have more power), the annoying seat belt chime.

The Ford Focus is a good car. It is reliable and fun to drive. There are many features you would not expect on this type of car, but they come in handy. This is my first car, and I really love it. But maybe I am only saying this because I am a first time owner and mabye tis is just the beginning. If you have any comments please e-mail me.

Overall great car, could use a little bit more horse power but takes curves like a dream, brakes fantastic, and cruises at 70-80 really smooth. Very versitile when ready to fix up. There are so many add-ons for it.

It's roomy for a compact car. I had a couple uneventful trips down to NC out to MO and to DC and PA, so I thought she was reliable.

See summary

I used to love my Focus. That was before I had to go to the dealership at least once a month for a recall fix. Then the weather stripping on the passenger side door disintegrated at about 30000 miles. Then the service guys cracked the plastic edging around the door as they replaced that. Oh, then there was the sweet smell coming from the engine when idling. Turns out there was a leak in one of the transmission hoses. New brakes and rotors at 40000, new tires at 49000. Well, she's in the shop again. I was on my way home from PA and as I'm going over the Ben Franklin Bridge the car starts to buck like I'm outta transmission fluid. . So now she's at a dealership 60 miles from me, still waiting to hear from the warranty company to see if they'll cover diagnostic testing. Transmission shouldn't go at 51000 miles. Brand new brakes are squeaking terribly now. I'm disappointed. This was my first new car.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, roomy, fun to drive.

Weakness:

Lack of power, and reliability . . .

The Focus reminds me of a what a domestic Honda Civic would be. It rides comfortably, handles good, gets good gas mileage, and has plenty of room. The only downsides to this car are the sketchy reliability, and lack of power. You'd think the company that can pump all that power out of their Mustangs would be able to do something better for the Focus. Import makes are putting out 4 cylinder cars with up to 200 HP. For the money it is a great car, but I have yet to see how reliable it will be in the long run.
