FORD PROBES SUCK!!!!!
They all have SOO mayn problems.. I have talked to mechanics who say that they always seem to see probes in thier shops more than most cars. HORRIBLE

Weakness:

Everything. Ford should of never created this PROBE-lem

Why do I like it... hmm.
It fills up extra space in my garage.

Strength:

The Handling (with poly-urithane front&rear end-link kits added)
Also the 16" (stock GT) tires 225/55-16 tires are night & day difference
I did have to hammer in the rear strut mount about .5" or so but well worth it for the handling benefits.
Gas Mileage, torque (especially when cold), engine & transmission reliability, and best of all...the PRICE.

Weakness:

...BACKSEAT or Lack Of!
ALL THE DAMN PLASTIC inside
Annoying retracting seatbelts (cut the cable & pulled the fuse) hehe Factory recall but no thanks.
Shift Stick tooo long (cut it in half)
NO POWER WINDOWS all I want is power windows.
Headlight retractor goes down fine but doesn't go back up>>>?
Also can't get my Gross Polluter to pass smog inspection. DAMNit...

I would definately recommend it to anybody who loves to drive. BUT always wear your seatbelt. I spun 3x's on the I-15 s.b. freeway with my girlfriend in heavy rain. Going 2 fast of course... caught traction near the slow lane facing perfectly backwards... skiddin...skiddn' skidding until I remembered seeing 2 broken down cars in the emergency lane... only saw 1 so I figured better to damage the front than the "impossible to find rear tail lights", spun a perfect "Movie-Like" 180deg. halfspin ... Still skidding and BOOM into the 280Z without a front wheel attached to it.
Only a small ding in the front of my hood & lic. plate fell off. Next day opposite direction, same freeway, BOOOOOOMMMMM my hood flies open shatters my windshield & folds in the top of my car at 70+ mph... well you can imagine the rest.. TRUE STORY... STILL RUNS LIKE A CHAMP at over 100mph,,:]

Strength:

Very smooth engine, complete instrumentation, excellent handling, stiff chassis, decent ride despite stiff suspension, huge cargo hold, sexy styling has held up well over the years, very quick with manual tranny (94), cruises very well at elevated speeds. The car's value has dropped, but 96's seems to be holding very well. Good around town w/automatic (96). Wife looks very good in 96. Sweet exhaust sound w/manual. Beautiful cars that drive very well and have been reliable for me. Great brakes, steering, response.

Weakness:

No exhaust sound w/auto. Poor paint quality. Subwoofer kind of cheesy, but easily fixed. Not too much of an aftermarket.

The Probe GTs have been spectacular cars for me. I love looking at them, washing them, polishing them, babying them, but when I drive them, I have to put the hammer down, and they respond beautifully. Perfectly sized for me, and no problem with rear seat room (wife has a Maxima for family outings). Excellent roadability and huge cargo hold. I have no problem recommending these cars to anyone, provided they check them out thoroughly first. A lot of younger, less-experienced drivers can buy GTs, and young people are known to be hard drivers. A lot of people tend to run theirs hard and put them away wet, if you know what I mean. Astonishing effort from Ford.

Strength:

-turning
-sporty appearance
-amount of mods u can add for GT model mostly
-no engine noises can be heard inside car
-price I paid
-hatch has a lot of room
-interior design
-safty factor
-replacement parts are super cheap to buy and most come with a 3 yr or lifetime warranty
-factory brakes are really good
-pop up head lights so nobody can brake your headlights while u r gone from your car

Weakness:

-engine needs a little more power
-back seats need more room
-hardly no room to fix anything under the hood
-Halfshaft is extremly hard to fix
-insurance is super high
-It comes with a donut spare I hate those tiny little things

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a awesome looking car and doesn't want to spend a lot of cash on the buy price. But don't buy this car if it has a major flaw and u don't know how to fix it cause most repair shops will charge you a arm and a leg. I know bout this they wanted $3200 to replace the engone that died off in the car when i bought it, but my dad and I did the whole job for a litte more then $500 and that included replacing the CV joint on the driver side a new and and a new engine with only 50,000 miles and custom painted by me and has newly installed pistons and rods bought from Autozone I love that store. :o) If u r looking for a car with a great front interior and a lot of trunk space this car is a A++. Although insurance is super high at first it drops reather quickly if you stay a good boy or girl and don't get in trouble with the law. But in a overall perspective I would recomded the car to anyone if they can get a great deal on it and likes a sporty car that is really fun to drive and does great on gas mileage and doesn't really need the back seats to sit ppl on long trips.

-94 Dodge stealth: Looks cool but body is bigger then the probe and heavier and usees more gas but still a great car in my book
-97 eclispe: Hot looking car but way to small inside and parts are super high but has serious get up and go power
-Z28 i thought this was suppose to have some horsepower but car is really roomy upfront and i have to give it some props since it's american made
-69 Ford Mustang: This is when they really made cars
-99 Special Edition Miata: Good gosh they r tiny but can turn a cornor so sharp at any speed and have a lot of horsepower for a car that size but the price is up there but i would do almost anything for one

Strength:

Cheap on Gas
Visually appealing

Weakness:

Multiple Transmission problems
Too many mechanical Problems to list

I would not recommend that anyone buy on of these cars used. They are notorious for their transmission problems and I have spent countless hours and dollars at the mechanics servicing it. I took it in for all its regualr check-ups and still had nothing but problems. This had to have been the worst car decision that I ever made. It makes me never want to buy another Ford vehicle again. The only person I could possible recommend this car to is perhaps a teenager that just drives to and from school or someone who really doesn't need to depend on the car.

Very nice looking car.

Weakness:

Slow! Compare to old Probe GT blows it. Lots of problems: electrical, sensors, fog light bulb burns out once a month. Try to change light bulb-turning signal, you have to take the bumper off. No room to work on the engine. Very small inside. The engine needs 50 more horsopowers - turbo or two more cylinders would do the job.

I woud recommended to a lady who don't have to go fast. You guys get something with more power, don't waste the money on ALL SHOW NO GO.
I had the car for 1 years and I was happy to sell it. Too many problems with the car.

Good gass mileage, Looks newer then actual year, handels great especially with ibach springs, 150,000 miles and no problems, can be quick with work done, many modifications can be done now with recent technology, no complaints at all, i love this car!

Weakness:

second gear too short, needs larger trany after engine work is done, 6,000 rpm's at 120 after exaust ignition and intake were played with, needs a 6 gear tranny, or a 5 plus 1. Could be quicker twin turbo would be nice.

I only paid $3200 for my probe, it was a steal, no problems its hooked up and as of tright now the retail value of my car is oover 7g's......

Similar Products Used:

89 taurus SHO, the probe is basically as quick as the taurus minus the secondary system, if turbo is installed the probe will blow the doors off the SHO, (my taurus blew the doors off the 89-94 firebirds and commaros verry quick car... my probe is now equal to my friends 89 v8 formula Firebird in the top end... im still working it off the line, after just recently installing ram air it is much quicker and i belive with a few modifications i will have it blow the doors off the SHO.

Do you have to ask? The car looks drives and feels like a dream. A 6 cilinder car with 164 hp ( well myn 220 ) while most v8's doing 230-250 hp.The car is sweet to look at and yet costs a lot cheaper then most sports cars and yet out preforms most of them.

Weakness:

In my opinion and most my friends they could of gone with at least 200HP but its ok they also could of put a cat-back exouhst but just my opinion.Oh yeh transmision is a little bit bad.

First i have to tell what cars i have smoked out of the road>>>> the new cougars any mustang exept for the saleen and cobras type R, i have beat the F* out of the 2000 eclipses and any sunbird let alone the cavaliers. I love the car they do go as fast as they say 140mph (tried it my self in a 45mph zone) they preform as good as they look and you can modify the S* out of them i think the latest thing I heard was my friend's buddy hes has a 425HP 96 probe GT-S as tested on the dyno. The price is as good as the car if not better and i would recommend the car over any mustangs cameros or TA's (trans ams) just buy one and see.

I had a 97 trans am, and a 95mitsubishi eclipse.I would never trade it i fell in love with the car first time i saw it in my school and haven't loved another car sence .
