Strength:
Roomy and comfortable interior. Interior materials high grade.Large trunk. Good performance, when it runs.Good brakes.
Weakness:
Ford engineering is a disgrace. Ford doesn't care about their customers.I'm buying Hondas from now on. Leave it to Ford to waste hundreds of dollars to save a few cents. Starter failure, broken strut, failed window motor, transmission failure, and defective camshaft design. Dealer service poor. I'll never buy a Ford product again. Strength:
Smooth ride, good fuel milage, good staight line stability, very quiet driving, not a sports car,but relaxing especially when you come from work.leg room front and rear, safety features, chairs, flip up center console, handling, smooth transmission, great trunk.
Weakness:
Had to change the thermostat, weak door-hinges,powerwindow-motors,lack of heat from the heater, rusted and brown coolant, solved by the coolant-bypass-kit,sometimes shifting of the tranny is somewhat strange or does not know what to do,solved by reprogramming the PCM,now good, also starting. But Americans, compared to French or Italien cars that are more lousy,A Taurus isn't that bad at all I bougt the car because I am an American car lover,Yes they also have them in holland in Europe. The 1996 Taurus is A very rare car in Holland and people say Hey check that one out, never saw one of these before. They are inported with other headligts and shocks.so its more sturdy. The price of it cost is about $35000 Dollars due to taxes. Its not even worht that much. But I bougt it used. But beside of that 3/4 of my famely lives in Covina California and they told me when I gave them a call that a 1996 Taurus wasn't a real good car.My Uncle knows a lot about cars and he told me about the possible problems I could have.So you can imagine, I went Ape! Did I buy A disaster on wheels! With a transmission under my hood like a time-bomb,but I don't know the time when it is going to go off! O Joy,every time I drive the Taurus I have a weard feeling! But the Taurus isn't that bad, only my uncle said you better bougt a 2000 model, they are finally good.(yes, even my family hase 2 driving around 2000-model)but for the rest of it it is a fine car to drive. The Vulcan-V6 has more than enough power to drive around her and on the free-way.Holland is flat so we don't have hills to climb and merging in to the free-way is no problem. The only problem so fare is that the heater inside doesn't produce enough heat below freecing temparatures due to the coolant bypass-kit they have installed, and i also changed the thermostad that helped a bit to solve the problem.J hope that I drive the car for some years,I am very pleased with it,but next time I buy the 2000 or newer model, give Ford an other chance. Strength:
-Brake-thourgh design for that year. -Very soft and comfortable ride.
Weakness:
-Terible mpg's. -A bunch of small, but costly problems appear at around 100K miles and everyting breakes when it hits 160K miles. -Rusts inside out. Even if the paint still looks good, you can be sure there's rust under it. Wery nice while it works I had it in my family from early 1997 untill late 2001. In about 2000, I got tired of fixing every little thing and decided to drive it till it dies. By the late 2001, all four shocks were broken, trany was broken and rust was popping out faster than I culd sand and paint it. Similar Products Used: This was my first and my last ford. |

The whole car is strong. I have never had a problem with this car. She's good on gas milage, and is reliable. It never slides in the snow, very good in all weather.
Weakness:
The only problem i have had with this car is that i broke a sway bar in the back right tire well. It happend during a careless moment when i was driving around a turn at excessive speeds. But other than that I have had no problems with her. This is a great car. Very easy to drive. Very safe and reliable. I love her! Similar Products Used: 1996 Taurus G 2002 Ford Taurus |

Ford Tauras

Its computer setup, it will allow you to download trouble codes by using the "Eng Warn" light. The 3.8 liter has more than enough horse to get it out of harms way. The suspension, steering and interior are very comfortable. The anti-lock feature on my unit is great. Overall, I am satifisfied.
Weakness:
The AXOD tranny is a stong tranny but it will only last 100k with or without maintance. This model, Tauras GL, should have been offered with a manual tranny. When one thing goes wrong, watch out, the domino effect does happen. This car has been good to me with exception: AT 96K miles I had to replace the Tranny (AXOD) and the engine (3.8). The tranny's speed sensor when out without warning and the engine would overrev. This cause the water pump to seize and whoops there it is, blown motor. The AXOD tranny costed $2500, the engine $3500. After I went the $6k in debt, I went to a tech college so I can fix it myself. I would like to know why Ford built the AXOD for it is a tranny that I have researched and only will last 100k before replacement on the average. I am now researching if I can attached a manual tranny to my 3.8 for this concern and may improve my milage. I have to say that other parts are now tiring for once my milage was 25/29 and now it is 22/25. Similar Products Used: Ford Thunderbird |

Ford Taurus SES
Strength:
Quiet cabin. Seats are firm and comfortable. Large trunk. Very well equipped auto for very little dinero.
Weakness:
Steering wheel band is thick and may not feel right in smaller hands. Controls for turn signals/brights-dims/gear selector are stiff and somewhat awkward to move them. They may take some getting used too since they to mimic the controls of European cars. Cruise control has no illumination and is difficult to use at night. Driver must feel around for raised bump or little dimple to use cruise control. Sure, this is the ultimate fleet car but to pickup a 2002 Ford Taurus SES with only 17,500 miles for $11,000.00 (no trade) is a great bargin. Don't let the dealer BS you, he is buying these cars by the truckload for $10,000 to $10500 at the factory auctions right now. Make the dealer show you his Black Book average wholesale price then nail him to the cross for trying to charge you $13995 - $15995 retail. And stay the heck away from Kelley Blue Book and NADA retail values unless you have money to burn. These are nearly worthless publications for the consumer, and great for the dealer. Ah, but I digress! IMHO, I think the Taurus is good looking car. About the only oval left on this Taurus is the grill. The SES is fully equipped, lacking only leather and a moonroof. The interior cabin is very quiet at highway speeds with no noticable interior rattles or wind noise. I found the ride very firm and controlled. By firm ride, I don't mean uncomfortable. The suspension and 16" wheels and tires masked old two lane road imperfections very well without compromising a good road feel. The guages are easy to read, and the controls were easy to reach from the driver's position. The 3.0 litre Vulcan V-6 is more than adequate to propel the 3400 pound Taurus. I had a Ford with the Duratec V-6, and it is clearly superior in terms of power. But for this price the old Vulcan will be just fine. All in all, if you can find a dealer who won't try to scalp you on price, the 2002 Taurus SES is one of the best values around. Similar Products Used: 90 Mercury Sable, 96 Ford Taurus Lx Wagen |

200 HP Duratech engine, roomy, good price.
Weakness:
Slow shifting transmission...takes awhile to downshift...searhes for the right gear when stomping on the accelerator pedal. This has been an excellent car for the price...purchased brand new...now has 39000 miles on it. Good amount of room even with two kids in car seats. The adjustable pedals are great for my 5'2" wife...she doesn't need to sit right against the steering wheel to reach the pedals (much safer)! The 24-valve Duratech V-6 is an excellent engine...a well proven motor (Ford uses this same engine in some Jaguar models). Only problem I had was light thumping sound coming from fron suspension when turning and hitting a bump in the road...took to dealer (under warranty) and they fixed front sway bar link...mechanic said it was a common problem. No other problems. I highly recommend this car for its value. It may not be as high in quality as Honda or Toyota but it has power, size, and a lower price. |
