I like the fact that the car has good gas mileage. It hold's up well in a accadent(was rear-ended)it only had minimal damage and my children were just fine.the car is roomy with a large trunk.
Weakness:
i don't like the fact that the car has lots of mystery problems(lights surge)and now the door says that it is open and wont let the dome light turn off husband had to pull the dome light fuse.when the heater is on the idol fluctuates rapidly and when the car goes into passing gear the headlights dim.My husband and i think that there is an electrical problem but the auto shop can't find one so we are taking it to a new auto shop. I don't think that i would buy another one.thinking about selling this one and getting something without all the problems.I wouldn't recomend it. Strength:
I like the fact that it has a 'Drive' gear for better takeoff with it's auto tranny. Although it only has the standard 150hp 6cyl 3.0L engine it still has a little bit of pep, especialy for it's size and weight. Although, i would've much preffered the SHO V8 with 235hp. As of now, the taurus has just over 80K on the odometer and there are no problems. I also tend to overwork the car. I read about how good it is at cornering, so i constantly test this theory! It is excellent at taking sharp turns at higher speeds. For added torque in the city's core I tend to leave the car in 'drive' instead of overdrive. This method does burn more gas.
Weakness:
The back seat is not meant for anyone over 5'10", if you are taller your head will hit the roof. I am 6'2" and i look out toward the front on an angle when i sit up straight. The front is not a problem. Cupholders in the back would be nice, i'm not as concerned about the rear heat/AC vents in the console. Better use of dashboard space, the airbag wastes a TON of room on the dash. i would reccommend it for highway use only. It gets horrible gas mileage around down. I averaged it out to about 60km's before the tank is right on the 3/4 full line (in overdrive gear). Mileage doubles on the highway. With my SE model I have all of the touring options which also makes it a little smoother on the highway than around town with all the potholes. Similar Products Used: Between the taurus and my old dodge grand caravan with the 3.3L engine it would definately win! |

Ford Taurus SE Station Wagon Comfort
Strength:
Fast V6 - Duratec, Dual Exhaust, Comfortable Bucket Seats, Roomy and still everything within Reach.
Weakness:
Rear seat is strait, would have preferred bucket seats and a place to attach a child seat. 3rd row of seats will not latch in if the cover is on. You have to remove it first and leave it at home to seat 7 people. I had a 1995 GT Mustang for several years, and now that my family is growing I had to get a Family Car, and which one better than the Taurus SE Comfort Station Wagon. With its 24V 200HP Duratec Engine, and Dual Exhaust (which I straight Piped) it's about as fast as those Old Mustangs and the new V6's. (No chance against the new V8's with 260HP). But, even though I'm a family man now, there is no rule that I have to give up driving fun and performance. I still take that Camry with my Pampers Bomber of the Line. I will try it out at the 1/4mile race track and see how much I can improve it... Similar Products Used: 1995 Mustange GT, Nissan Sentra GXE, Mitsubishi Diamante Station Wagon: I still prefer the Stang, definetly better than the 1997 Nissan Sentra and the Diamante. More hookup and tuning for the Diamante available. |

Strength:
Can teach you a lesson: don't buy Ford, at least not a Taurus.
Weakness:
Head gasket is guaranteed to blow. You will be repairing everything before you hit 90,000 miles. I still won't buy a foreign car, but I am done with Ford. Similar Products Used: 1989 Taurus Wagon. That one was ok, but nothing that Ford should be proud of. Fixed things here and there. Actually, at about 70,000 the engine was about to die (donated the car to a charity). |

everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong twice and been "fixed" twice This car has been nothing but a money pit and headache since the day i bought it only 15 months ago. It has been to STAN MARTIN FORD 11 times in the short time that i have owned it. From everything to the phantom door ajar chime, to 4 transmissions. The car is not reliable, has died leaving me and my family stranded, and the worst thing is that the dealership says nothing is wrong with it. Similar Products Used: None |

wagon
Strength:
It still goes down the road with almost 170,000 miles on it. (Although not without lots of repair, see weaknesses). The interior has held up surprisingly well; just some door panels coming loose. And as long as nothing major is broken, it's a very dependable car - always starts right away, even in the coldest Denver weather, and doesn't overheat. It's happy with the "cheapest", lowest octane gasoline available. Oh, and it still passes annual pollution tests with flying colors.
Weakness:
Just about every moving part except the engine has been replaced at least once, although nothing major has broken for about the last 30,000 miles. Acceleration is pretty poor, especially uphill, although it does better in drive (vs overdrive). Handling is steady and predictable but not superb(well it also needs new tires). I doubt a review of the Taurus' first model year will be helpful to anyone. It was just fun because my parents bought this car used and then handed it down to me. It has been a fine car for me but gave them quite a bit of trouble. The Taurus was well engineered overall in my opinion and has lasted long enough to cut it some slack, but I will definitely avoid first model year cars when I buy my own. If you can pick up an older Taurus for real cheap (a thousand bucks at most) with over 150,000 mi on it (so everything has broken and been replaced), it could be a decent stopgap car. Otherwise, get something newer... Similar Products Used: Besides it I've only driven a Honda Civic and a Ford Windstar, so nothing really to compare. |

Taurus Wagon 3.0
Strength:
Very dependable runs excellent,no hesitation or engine lobe, stainless steel exaust system {it still has the original exaust}its just the perfect family car.
Weakness:
Had the transmission completly overhauled, the body rusts badly around the door handles, other than that theres been no other problems. Its my wifes car, she used to have the Calvalier until it started having problems,so that was a blessing in disguise because now she won,t part with her Taurus, she calls it her space mobile, because of the way it looks and it feels like it floats down the road, now only if I could get her to let me drive it. Strength:
Power, decent amount of extras for a GL (power windows, locks, mirrors, windows seats, ABS, etc...)
Weakness:
GAS MILEAGE! My parents purchased this car for me in 1997 with 15,000 miles. It currently has about 57,000. MPG's have decreased steadily since the car was purchased. Also, the tranny acts up ever now and then. It'll stay in 2nd too long and then thrust into 3rd. Nothing major though. This was the 2nd (or 3rd [I can't remember]) Taurus for my family. The first was an 87'Taurus LX Wagon. That car was so ahead of it's time. It had every feature you could imagine. The only repair ever done to that car was after 126,000 the water pump broke. That car was a trooper! The 95' Taurus is no less. It has been in 2 major front end collisions since purchased. Not one thing has gone wrong with this car (mechanically speaking). We've only had minor problems with this car: 1. the speedometer crapped out and started going nuts (you'd hit 55 and it started jumping back and forth). 2. The driver side window falls just a little bit after it's been raised (but not enough to allow water in). 3. FORD PAINT SUCKS! I constantly wax my car because I know if I don't, the paint will quickly fade! Though a 1995 Taurus GL was not the car I would've picked out (it was given to me), it has been a real trooper! By doing the minimal amount of upkeep (oil, wash/wax) it could last you a long time. I've put the poor thing through hell and back and it's still running strong. Just prepare to spend a lot more on gas because they're thirsty cars! Similar Products Used: 1996 Camry- The Camry did not handle as well as the Taurus. However, gas mileage was phenominal in comparison. |

/Taurus LX Wagon
Strength:
Value. I purchased this car in 1996 with 85700 miles on it. I have driven it for 142000 miles. With purchase price, repair costs, and fuel costs added over the ownership period, my cost per mile has been $ 0.106. When I sell the car in the near future, I expect the cost per mile to be approximately 10 cents. The car has also been a comfortable cruser over the last five years. Good power driver's seat, roomy, decent ride.
Weakness:
Cylinder heads on 3.8 L engine. Entire car is generally difficult to work on. I have made good use of this wagon. The 3.8 L engine has alot more power than the 3.0 L. Transmission was rebuilt at 145000 miles and has had the lubrication upgrade kit installed. Upshifts were tightened up and it has been a crisp performer for the last 80000 miles. Handling is average BUT, with a good driver behind the wheel, an average driver in a sportier car would not get away. Similar Products Used: I have a 1970 Pontiac GTO. The goat if faster. Top goes down. Gets 12.(half the milage of the Taurus) |
