Taurus LX Wagon
Strength:
Seems okay so far mechanically but I'm now worried.
Weakness:
Stereo has already stopped working and there is a pretty loud squeaky rattle in the rear cabin. After reading all these reviews I'm really worried about the repairs I may have to make. I only saw one real good review for my kind of taurus and the guy seemed a little biased. Man, hope I didn't get screwed. The worst thing is I can't trade it because it's a gift from my father and I don't think he'd let me trade a car he just bought me for my 17th birthday. Has anyone had a good experience with an early 90's Taurus wagon? Similar Products Used: 1998 Chevy Prism LSI (great car, good stereo, kick ass acceleration for a 4cyl.) |

SEL
Strength:
Value, looks, safety, quality.
Weakness:
None I researched midsize vehicles for a year before I bought my SEL. I decided to buy the top of the line SEL with every possible option and I'm not disappointed. Not only does it look great but it runs and rides great. Very roomy, plenty of room for 5 (I've got a console). Very solid; doors, windows, hood, trunk all fit tight with no noise. Great ride on long trips. I've taken 2 and it was quiet, smooth and comfortable. With the 6 disk CD changer in the console I felt like I was setting in my living room. This is my 4th Ford, 91 Mustang, 95 Ranger, 96 Concord and now the 2001 Taurus. I've still got all of them. Too dependable to get rid of. I would definately recommend the Taurus. Similar Products Used: 2001 Accord, 2001 Alero, 2001 Mazda 626, Chrysler Sebring, and many more. Looked at them all and bought the best. |

Strength:
Reliable, spacious, and rides easy.
Weakness:
Slow as molasses. 0-60 in 5 minutes. I think this car would be a good car for someone older with a family but not a teenager. I am looking for something with a little more power. It would also be a good first car. Similar Products Used: 89 Buick LeSabre. That thing could hall major butt. It drove really well, and had a lot of room. |

Strength:
Decent mpg for the car's size. Comfortable interior-- foreign owned auto makers don't compare in my opinion comparing same market segment.
Weakness:
Overall build quality lacking compared to some competitors. Weight against price advantage that Ford offers (even on new) loaded Taurus being about 4,000 less than loaded Camry. When considering all the purchase one could make today it is now wonder to second guess and do your research. I've found that yes you do get what you pay for. It isn't always the case especially for my experience with my Taurus. I have been overall pretty happy. It is like anything, if you beat it or neglect it and then complain about the quality what value is that? I've pampered my Taurus while replacing all necessary parts myself (this is a very easy car to work on and you save money this way) that wear out on any car ie. water pump, p/s pump, pads, drums, discs, tires, belts, steering tie rods. I have 114,000 on it and have found that I could have a nicer car but this car was only 4000 with 91,000 when I bought it. Try buying a Honda Accord for that kind of money with 91,000 on it. The only one you find is a salvage car. (Nothing against a Honda Accord--great car). Great value. I have not done any unusual repairs to it. Similar Products Used: None |

LX
Strength:
The Ford Taurus is a roomy vehicle for a family of four. It is a smooth ride on the highway (when your not experience mechanical problems).
Weakness:
This is the second engine in my 96 Taurus. The first engine burn out due to a pinhole leak in a hose. I had to pay for it. We protested, persisted, and discovered it was a manufacturers defect. Ford acknowledged and reimbursed the money put out on rebuilding the engine. Also, I am about to pay for an oil leak (2nd year in a row)in the rear seal gasket. I paid approx. $500 dollars less than a year and 1/2 ago. The same problem has resurfaced and Ford will not accept responsibilitity. I am an average driver (I don't jump over curbs or do daredevil stunts with the car) who maintains his vehicle. This will be my third and last Ford vehicle. This is due to my negative experiences with the 1996 Ford Taurus and a 1995 Ford Escort. I must be a glutton for punishment. The Taurus has experience two major mechanical problems: engine replacement due to a manufacturer defect and a recurring oil leak in the rear seal gasket. Maybe others have had positive experience with Fords - However, I have not. If you take away these two major problems then my experience with Ford would be average and I would have an extra $500.00 dollars still in my pocket. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort 1995 |

Strength:
decent power, room for 6 people and their crap, comfortable seats, 3.0 engine is durable., suprisingly quiet ride, handles decently
Weakness:
transmission not as durable as the engine, rust (fixed) no cupholders, jack sucks cant hold the cars weight, transmission went, and no tach I purchased my 1988 Taurus Gl August of 2000.It looked like absolute crap. THE paint was all faded and oxidised, but overall the car was in decent condotion, though far from MINT. I psid 400 bucks out the door for the car. I restored the finish, using rubbing compound, i added a front air dam which was missing, sanded down the rust, primed and painted it and the car dont look 14 yrs old. I did that myself. i am 18 and this is my first car,i have only 75k miles on the car. i will keep it till it dies. For a first car, i think it suits the purpose. It gets me where i need to go. I would like to get an SHO,but alas i cannot. Similar Products Used: 1989 honda accord-car had a tach and cupholders--dont think it could touch a SHO however |

Taurus SHO
Strength:
The speed, what else? I'd have to say it's a great car to be running like brand new after 152,000 miles
Weakness:
I have had no problems with this car since i bought it. I've had to replace the brakes but that's nothin major, every car has to get new brakes eventually. What can I say? This is a great car and I love the speed. It's so much fun drive. When I bought this car several people told me different opinions on what type of car they thought it was. The re-sale value may be low on these cars but if you put the right amount of work into fixing it up then the re-sale value will go up. I've put maybe $450-500 worth of work into my car and the re-sale value on my car has gone up by $2000. Anyone who wants a fast and reliable car, I would suggest the Taurus SHO. Similar Products Used: Personally, I think that this car is one of the most reliable cars out there. I've driven a 96 intrepid, 97 eclipse, and a 96 honda civic and none of them even compare to the SHO. |

Weakness:
slow....very dissapointing. and everyone says theyre better top-end, well it seemed as if the car wanted the give up at 80 mph i dont own this car, but i test drove one. it was slow. couldnt wait to get out and back into my grand prix gt. i was really dissapointed in this car. my gt was faster....and a gtp would blow the freggin doors off it. sorry owners of the 96-99 sho. they say earlier models were faster, i certainly hope so. Similar Products Used: 99 grand prix gt. taurus was slower and not even close to as cool. they can slap a "sho" decal on it, but in the end its still a taurus. |

Ford Taurus
Strength:
Roomy mid-size
Weakness:
AC repairs, coolant problems, brake problems, poor gas mileage, oil leaks. I would never recommend the Ford Taurus. It is a completely unreliable vehicle; I'm now convinced that Ford Motor Company produces inferior products. At the price of vehicles today, one should be able to obtain a minimum of 150,000 miles without experiencing major problems. Meticulous care of these vehicles mean absolutely nill. Be assured, it will let you down. Similar Products Used: Have owned Toyota, GM, Dodge, Oldsmobile. Not one of these vehicles required anything other than routine maintenance; drove them all for 10 plus years. The dodge had over 180,000 miles without a single repair.....wish I still had it!!!!! |

Strength:
Upholstry nice, options are great.
Weakness:
gas mileage, tranny, struts, brakes, power steering pump, motor mount, door locks, small interior, noisy ride, not too smooth, slow acceleration. Bought at 77K miles, good for a few miles. Wouldn't buy another taurus if it was the last car on earth. I have owned 2~! 1996 & 1992. This review is the 1992. We have put more $ into it than it was worth, starting with struts, breaks, door locks, spark plugs, tranny going out now, motor mount, power steering pump, radiator. The car was a waste, especially when Ford taurus is 'the best' YEAH RIGHT> Similar Products Used: 1996 taurus, The 96 didn't have quite so many miles but it was about the same interior, nice and small! It had fuel trouble also and was slow too. |
