Power windows
Weakness:
The white ext. and blue int. don't exactly match but you get used to it. This is a beautiful car. All of my friend including the ones with newer cars are in love with it. It is loaded and spacious. Honestly, I never liked Fords until I got this one in near perfect condition(had cigarette burns in about 4 places. not obvious though). The Taurus has given me a totally new impression on Ford vehicles. Similar Products Used: It is like a mercedes compared to my in pretty good condition 87 Maxima. |

Ford Taurus LX Wagon
Strength:
-Comfortable ride
Weakness:
-None for me; changed oil every 3,000 miles and wasn't rough with the car. To this day, it has been my first car. From what I have read, many say I'll experience many problems before 90,000 miles. Yet, I have not. I have 111,439 miles on it. I've only replaced brakes and had some AC work. Nothing over $200 dollars in repairs. This car is very reliable and comfortable with all the power and leather interior that is offered with the LX model. This was the top of the line car. It's very roomy and comfortly holds 8 passengers. I've taken very good care of this car, maybe that's why it's been so good to me. Similar Products Used: 1995 Ford Bronco XLT- My Taurus gets better MPG and has a smoother ride. I'd drive the Taurus over the Bronco anyday! |

Strength:
Features for cost. Size is the main benefit.
Weakness:
The brake rotors are warped for the second time in less than 10,000 miles... all four!!!!! I am going to buy after market (Bendix) high quality components to replace Fords obvious cheap out. i bet they melted down the old rusty Fords from the seventies to cast the rotors... Venusalian crappy steel. I know. Good overall. Inexpensive for the features that it has. Not a HQ car by any stretch. The size is good. I would have liked larger but not all the time. My elderly parents like it for getting in and out... point. The styling is sporty not gauche. The ride is a little firmer than my Oldsmobile (why did they discontinue that great ride?) Colour Similar Products Used: Whatever, I'm not in love with, it just a car. Fix the brakes (boy O) do the maitenance Buy the warranty or blame yourself. I sell insurance... point bye bye |

LX Sedan
Strength:
Easy to find parts
Weakness:
Tired design My overall impression of this vehicle is that for the investment it wasn't a bad choice. The Taurus runs in our family. My Dad has an SHO, mom a Sable, and me a Taurus LX. It starts every time, except once the alternator died. This vehicle has all the options, moonroof, digital dash, climate control and dual power seats. I've had it painted (and it looks like a new car) and a lot of the components were replaced. It runs pretty much like a new car. The tranny has a shift kit which really helps and is suggested for anyone with this vintage taurus. I use this car to get to school and back and runs great for its purpose. No worries about taking it on long trips. If you have a moonroof on your older Taurus watch out, the seal gets old and doesn't properly seal and the switch easily breaks because the internal component is plastic. Similar Products Used: This is my second car after owning an 83 honda accord. Very different, although I like the honda because it just kept going, and going, and going..... |

Strength:
It was the first new car that we had ever purchased. So I assumed that it would at least last until it was paid for. It had great power and was comfortable. Great adjustable seating and plenty of room. Great stereo.
Weakness:
Well, I had no complaints and plan to drive it forever. We've always owned Ford and believed in them. My sister and I planned a trip to Pigeon Forge and I said "I'll drive" (Thinking that my vehichle was the most dependable). WRONG. We went to Gatlinburg one evening and started to return back to Pigeon Forge late evening and that is where all the trouble began. I got in the car, back up started to go forward and my tranmission was stuck in 1st gear we managed to get to a store. I had a car load of children and was told that there was no where to rent a car that late. A police officer happen to stop by. He managed to find a vehicle to rent and gave me a ride. (Just what everybody want on vacation). Well it must have been the only vehicle left in town. Because the radio had been stolen, the break light stayed on, and to top it off someone had painted the inside interior with paint use to give it the marble look (I also had to initial that the vehicle was known for turnover, so be careful). My car was towed the following morning to Sieverville to the dealship of course when it arrived there it was running fine. They recommended that the transmission be serviced. It brought us home, only to have the same promblems two weeks later. This time it stopped in my driveway. Thank goodness. It now needs a tranmission. Once it's fixed. It's gone. We owned another Ford before and the tranmission had to be relplaced also. Ran well for the first 3 1/2 years no major problem, just minor inexpesive things. I also had the popping noise on turns, window stuck, and door ajar when all doors were closed Similar Products Used: Never had this kind of trouble with anything before. Looking at Camry, Maxima. |

Strength:
Acceleration (this puppy left the big boys in the dust, on a near vertical passing lane, I could reach 70 mph while most other cars were chugging at 50), handles curves well, decent in snow and ice. Cops looking to ticket speeders ignore this car for some mysterious reason (I call my gray Taurus a stealth car because it blends in so well with the road).
Weakness:
Vapor lock on really hot days (happened once when gas was low), AC was flakey, I notice all Taurus' of this model rust around the bottom of the doors...cheap paint? Also, if you're 5'3" looking over your shoulder is impossible when entering an on ramp. Trunk leaked but hey, she's 12 years old. Also, we never used the back doors until we had the baby. They didn't work well from disuse. I think that's probably common for most cars. My complaints were petty for the most part. Oh, and it went through a suspicious amount of power steering fluid, lots toward the end. Oh wow, we drove this car into the GROUND and it impressed us for years (7 to be exact). Acceleration was awesome, I liked the way it handled the curves (I live in the mountains)and it was a faithful car. We're going to replace it (finally) at 181,000 miles - and we got it at 30,000 miles. We depended on this vehicle and either we had an incredible streak of luck or this is just a great car. My biggest complaint was that it seemed prone to rusting and the paint seemed cheap, but that did not affect performance at all. People boggled that we drove this thing year after year rarely complaining. We went coast to coast a few times. Very reliable and fun to drive :) Similar Products Used: I'm no expert on cars and have only owned this one. Everyone I know has replaced their car at least once, often twice, in the time I've owned this vehicle. Most traded in their cars due to serious problems with them. I'm replacing mine because I'm not pushing my luck at 181 K miles. I'd like to get a newer model but am sad to let her go. |
