Strength:

Easy to handle and drive in every day use. Spacious and relatively easy to maintain. Like the appearance.

Weakness:

Air conditioning, the O-rings has been changed now at least 5 times, still leaking, and the compressor unit once.

Reasonably well behaving family car, with good amount of space.

Similar Products Used:

BMW 540iA -97, Quite unfair to compare, BMW has superior performance, handling and overall quality. But it's double as expensive as well..
Nissan Primera stw -97. Nissan has better overall quality but doesn't quite have the same spacious feeling.
Corvette -93, same overall quality, much faster but more demanding to drive. No trunk space at all...
Trans Am -88, the same...
Honda Prelude -84. Much better quality, but lacking trunk space as well.

Strength:

Fast. Yamaha motor.

Weakness:

All items on car poor quality except engine.

This car is a LOT of fun to drive simply because of the acceleration but, it is a wonderful engine (Yamaha 24V V-6) wrapped in a junk car. One thing I can say is, it has never left me somewhere. Other than that I don't have much good to say about it. You name it, and it's going bad or has gone bad. Steering rack (second one that I know of) causes a steering pulsation which is outright dangerous. Auto trans slips ( and no I don't beat the tar out of it) front wheel bearing failure, stereo broke, cheap interior quality, poor fuel mileage, cheap paint, cruise module burned up (literally) 2 power window failures (which are also VERY slow). Also, my 93 Cadillac STS with the Northstar was much faster but otherwise a piece of junk too.

Weakness:

NOTHING..........NADA....I WISH I STILL HAD IT!

Over this car is great! Traded my 2000 camry for it, at the time I thought it was a mistake. I guess I was rong...it far better than the Camry!............AFTER 3 MONTHS OF BUYING THE CAR IT GOT TOTALED!.......i WILL BET MY LIFE ON IT AND ADMIT TO ANY "JAP" CAR OWNER THE TAURUS IS FAR BETTER AND LEAVE CAMRY AND ACCORD BEHIND!....NOT ONLY FOR QUAILTY BUT SAFTY! WHAT HAPPENED WAS THAT A LADY IN A 2000 HONDA ACCORD RAN THE RED LIGHT GOING 45MPH, AND BROADSIDED ME ON MY SIDE! THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY, PEOPLE WHERE SHOCKED BECAUSE IS I WAS DRIVING SOME PLASTIC MADE TOYOTA OR HONDA, I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THE PLOICE SAID! SINCE THE TAURUS HAS THICKER STILL ON HER FRAME. MY TWO YEAR OLD NIECE IN THE CAR SEAT IN THE BACK WAS SCARED BUT SAFE.( THE TAURUS ONLY HAD 1,091 MILES WHEN IT GOT TOTALED, WHAT A WASTE!) FOR THE LADY IN THE 2000 ACCORD, SHE WAS OUT, SHE HAD NO LICENSE AND NO INSURANCE, THE CAR WAS HER DADS AND HE WAS IN THE NAVY GONE! IAM NOT A MONEY HUNGRY PERSON, SO I DID NOT SUE, BUT DID MAKE SURE I REPORTED HER FATHER TO HIS "COMMANDING OFFICER" TO WHAT HAPPENED, BELIEVE ME HE FOUND OUT! THANK GO I HAD UNINSURED MOTIZED! AS FOR THE HONDA, IT WAS TOTALED, THERE WAS NOT FRONT END ON THAT CAR, ALL THE WAY TO THE DRIVING COMPART WAS EMPTY, THE WERID THING WAS THAT HER SEAT BELT SNAPPED! I TELL YOU "OVER RATED JAP CARS!"

Strength:

3.8L is very strong. Comfortable, fun to drive. Safety is very high for this car. LX aluminum wheel's are very good looking and strong.

Weakness:

Tranny , (mine was replaced by the second owner at 38,000 miles and this tranny they and I have had very very good luck with it).
Headgasket's on them need replacing but besides that great motor, couldnt be more reliable.
The cupholder is located right near the shifter and a pain to go to shift.

Not my first Taurus. But still very impressed!
The car has 105,000 miles and it is still running strong as the day it came of the assembly line.

Car is very comfortable to drive and the seat's are wonderful. ( especially the ones with powerseat's like mine)

Accleration is enough to put a 5.0 Thunderbird in your rear view mirror.

Handeling is a very stong point with this car.
