Strength:

I love the cargo capacity it has and I'll take a station wagon over an SUV for now.

Weakness:

Can Ford put the 3.8 of the Chev Impala? Why, why, why does Ford like so much it's own custom panel for the radio, I can't put what I want to install.

Well, it's a Taurus, I like it, but I don't like the low end torque and the traction control gets on my nerves sometimes. I had issues with it and some have been taken care off. This car is a lease vehicle and I'm sure not going to keep it. I like the leader seats, but it has not heating so they do get cold in the winter, but they do have a better head rest than the Impala.

This is a follow-up on a previous review, Oct. 29, '03. Vehicle is now 3 years old, this month with 48,500 miles. I can relate to ruffincat's review. I am also getting that high pitched noise in the engine. I have not gotten around to replacing the front rotors & pads yet. Terrible front end shimmy when brakes are applied. I am now getting an engine oil leak. When the car sits for several days I get oil on the garage floor. I suspect it's coming from the rear intake manifold gasket near the throttle body. A difficult and expensive fix. I'll live with it until it gets a lot worse. I wish I new about this web site before I purchased this vehicle. Thanks Carreview.com. I will use this site in the future. Unfortunately I cannot afford to get out of my mistake for a while.

not many. the car looked great when i got it. comfortable drove great for long drives

Weakness:

EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! the shocks, transmission, alternater, and starter and battery ( had to replace 2 times in 9 months) all suck

I HATE THIS CAR!!! here is the story.. My parents cosigned for a friend of thiers for this POS. the guy defaulted on the loan and left my parents stuck with the payments. needing a car desparately I offered to take over the payments.. i got the car with 110,000 miles on it.. IT looked great and even tho the friend left it dirty on the inside. We cleaned it and off i drove into the sunset in a nice car with a sunroof which i loved.. I got the car from my parents in 4/2003. THe Clutch Compressor (AC) went out in June 24 miles outside of Tulsa on our way to Dallas!! had to have it towed home and my dad helped me fix it ( even tho it took a month. That cost about 350.00 IT drove great after that. even handled a few trips to Oklahoma City which is 200 miles round trip. In September We were again heading to Dallas and it did till we got to the FT Worth Zoo the same day and it started smoking a little! ON The Beltway between Ft Worth and Arlington The Car completely broke down ( Smoke everywhere) during rush hour! We had to rent a UHAUL to HAUL the POS home that was another 250.00 come to find out the Transmission was blown!!! spent 1400.00 to get the Transmission fixed and it drove great after that even making a trip to Dallas working terrificly. Then comes january ( have now had the car 9 months) and just last Thursday (1/28/2004) my Alternator has broken!!!!!!! AUGH!!!! will the repairs never end????? This car has now cost about 2000.00 to repair and it is not even a year old!! The car does have 122,000 miles on it but good lord is it wrong to ask for a car that does not beak down so quickly? I am getting rid of this car after i get it back from gettign teh Alternater fixed! I will get a Toyota or Honda.. This car sucks.. Then to top it all off. my parents who have a Taurus 98 SHO now have starter problems and transmission problems and just like mine thier sunroof is broken. I cant blame everything on the friend who had my car before me but this is ridiculous.. the struts are bad and this is just horrible.. Also the resale value is really bad.. dropped in value as soon as it left the lot. Toyotas are getting my vote for the best most reliable car made ( next to Hondas)

Looks great! Comfortable car Low noise on the road

Weakness:

Mechanical Parts Electrical Parts Planned obsolence for parts to fail after warranty expires.

My girlfriend has a 2001 SE bought brand new, we have replaced the battery, alternator, a electrical in line fuse for the cigarette lighter ($114) and now the Ford repair shops are telling her she needs a new transmission at 64,000 mile (just out of warranty, of course). Other mechanics say it needs a clutch selinoid and another part in the transmission ($700+ to fix), which routinely go out around 65,000 miles due to planned obsolesence by Ford engineers. I hope these engineers have also planned for where they are going to find jobs when Ford becomes obsolete when we all go to Honda and Toyota products. If Ford cared about it's customers there should be a recall on this transmission problem since Ford designed it to fail. If you own one of these cars, my advice is dump that car as soon as you can if your not so far upside down in it (like my single mom girl friend)that you can't afford to get something else.

Weakness:

Unexplained suspension noises No oil drain under oil filter (oil drips directly on starter motor) Weak interior parts on door panels Door alignment is off

Purchased this 2001 Ford SE in March of 2001. It's gradually turning into a nightmare before my eyes. It had l0 miles on it when I bought it. Approx. a year into driving it, my battery died. I found out that it had insufficient cold cranking amps (460). Had to replace amps with 650 amps. Later it developed a water leak. The leak was so bad it saturated the carpet and it started to leak into the electrical wiring. I had it checked and "it was so called repaired" twice. There was shoddy workmanship used to make the repair. After taking to another mechanic, we found out what the problem was (it was coming in on the driver's side under the windshield wiper cowl). This is not the end of my troubles, later my engine light started to come on. The crankshaft position sensor had to be replaced. I eventually ended up on the side of the road at about 47,000 miles with a blown starter motor. At almost 50,000 miles I have just replaced my windshield washer sprayer jets located in the hood - and they were really needed because of the very bad weather in Maryland. Buying a Ford vehicle is an adventure into the world of automotive repair. You can bet, that as soon as I can I will be buying a foreign car. All the money that I thought I would save, is being spent on a lot of repairs that I didn't think I would have to make before the car is even paid off. If all this is happening at 50,000 miles, what can I expect later on. The Saga Continues.

This is hard to come by....umm, the floorboard will support your weight....

Weakness:

EVERYTHING...They got nothing right on this car, and apparently never will..

I owned a 1995 Metallic Green Ford Taurus, and later test drove a 2000 model of the same kind....All that has changed over the years on this model line is the sheet metal and the seat covers. As always, Ford Trucks are great, fine vehicles, but Ford Cars Are Garbage....Especially this model. I purchased the car with 50,000 miles, which for most late model cars and their sound quality and engineering today is not that much....Not so with this one. This car cost me more to keep on the road than what I paid for it.....SERIOUS problem here.....I know for certain a 95 Camry owner is probably still driving their 95 Camry and satisfied with it. Problems are MANY. 1. Transmission. The Tranny on this vehicle was weak, rough and balky....It acted like it never seemed to want to come out of first gear, and then when it did, it hit second HARD. This was prevailent regardless of how recent or well you maitained the Tranny. 2. Brakes, the brakes on this vehicle were so poor that I was often scared of when I would actually stop. Also, I went through a set of front brakes and rotors every three months, and rear brakes and rotors every six months....I though brakes were a once a year thing........Horrible. 3. Cooling system. This cooling system is criminally inept. Without fail, every year in January I would have to replace the cheaply made factory plastic radiator because it would rupture........Even after having the car winterized in the fall.....Horrible. 4. Interior...What can I say about this cheap festival of plastic? After a while the interior door panels began falling off, rattling and the passenger side panel eventually split in half. The dash was hard to read, and reach....The seats were like trying to sit on folding chairs at a boring speach...Ford, Torture racks would have been better!! The power window and locks malfunctioned several times, and eventually the head liner liked to hang out on the top of my head........PURE CRAP!!! 5. Performance....The V-6 in this car had the energy of an old man sauntering down the nursing home hallways....Kia Sephias could beat me to 60...... And, there was tremendous understeer on the front.....Throw the car around a bit (nice wish with a weak engine, tranny and brakes) and it turns like a semi.....NO NO NO!!!! Plus, for the size of body it has, why is it so cramped? This is the last time I will ever buy a Ford product if this the kind of vehicle that they consider acceptable for the buying public....This could explain why companies like Toyota and Honda are cleaning their clocks and beatin the tar out of them on car sales.. This is not "Ford, quality is job one" This is "Ford, quality, what is that?".. NEVER AGAIN..

The car can take off when it needs too I'll give it that. Really good at pulling out of tollbooths on the Garden State Parkway. Rides pretty smooth too.

Weakness:

Ok why the hell can't I use my ashtray and center console at the same time, who designed that whole deal??? And what's with the wipers going on when I use my turn signal.

Hmm let's see I picked the car up with 81,000 miles on it in Feb 2003. Now has almost 92,000. Had the shifter cable snap in a bank drive through. Then the steering rack. Wanna have some fun spend two days under the car trying to fix that. But otherwise a good car.

Strong V6 that gets pretty decent gas mileage I observed 28 MPG during my trips to work so far. car handles good, and can pass rather quickly on the hwy. Easy Instrumentation, the 6 speaker JBL stereo is also nice, and I like the Digital Heat/AC panel

Weakness:

I noticed a shimmy in the front end may be tire balance and the check engine soon light stays on (I will have it checked this weekend)

I just bought this car a few days ago with 153,620 miles on it,The 3.0 24 Valve Engine seems strong and clean. While fishing through the glove box I found a receipt from the prior owner for a replaced Transmission which was done about 20,000 miles ago and cost him $1,511, also a brake job was done last month. When I took the car for a test drive it was fine engine took me up to 60 MPH in about 9 seconds, and there was no appearent rattling on the highway, since I bought it 3 days ago I`ve already put 400 miles on it since I drive like 100 miles round trip to work on a daily basis. The body and interior of this car is in great shape as well which was another plus for buying it, the guy I bought it from was asking $2,000, and he was an older man who I thought didn`t realize it`s actual worth I offered him $1,500 and he said no less then $1,600 and it`s mine. So far no problems, this is a car I plan to keep for maybe 6 months while I save for a new vehicle, if something expensive on it goes well it will get parted out or I`ll sell it to the highest bidder, I have owned many Ford in the past and never had some of the problems listed here, I hope this one is as good as all the rest. I will let you know if I start having problems with it.

bought this 2000 01/03 w/23K miles. 5 months later this car breaks down on side of road. charged 100.00 for a diagnostice inspection(yeah, right). am told if the defect is covered under warranty, i will not have to pay for the inspection. guess what? its not covered. maybe it's just me but i would think if you just bought a so-called certified pre-owned that is supposedly checked for any possible problem and you pay extra for this and a for a warranty that you would not be stuck on the side of the road a few months later and still having to pay for THEM to find out what is wrong with it. i pay for that and as soon as i left and stopped it felt like it was going dead. took it back 2x. they told me there was nothing wrong w/it. every time i press on the brakes the shakes and vibrates and the steering wheel pull even after i had an alignment and rotors and brakes checked. two weeks later i am back on the side of the road only this time it is with a dead battery. now the car smells like it is burning and noone can tell me what this is. i am reluctant to take it to ford because i am sure it would not be covered. i will never buy another ford again! my next car will be toyota.
