Ford Taurus SEL
Strength:
Duratech V6 has excellent power. Leather seats and climate control make for an enjoyable ride. Five star crash test rating. Looks sporty with the sunroof and rear spoiler.
Weakness:
Average Fuel Economy. Questionable Transmission. I bought this vehicle used from a dealership in Ohio. A thorough carfax report claimed that this vehicle was flawless. This is the SEL model and it is loaded with all the options available on a Taurus. The ride of this car is absolutely great and the leather seats are some of the most comfortable that i have ever sat in. The 200hp Duratech V6 has impressive response and passing power. But there is one thing that may have spoiled my opinion of this car. I was doing a walk around inspection of my taurus before taking my wife and our 5 month old son on a six hour drive home for the holidays. I was startled to find a huge pool of transmission fluid underneath the car. I took it to the local Ford dealership and they had to overhaul the whole damn tranny! Im glad i found this problem before we started our trip ( we make our trips at night while our son sleeps). I think a car that has 27,000 miles on it should definitely not run into a problem like this! I bought this Taurus because of its reputation of being a safe and dependable family car. Now I am left wondering if I should have bought a Camry or Accord. Similar Products Used: none |

TRANSMISSION! brakes/rotors I orginally had a 1999 Taurus SE with the awesome 24v engine. BUT Then Ford decided to recall the 99's with a supposed transmission line problem. I find out later after I get the car back that my car because of the engine style didnt need it but they fixed it anyways. I was like ok whatever. THREE days later I'm on the shoulder of a highway with a broken down car. They forgot to put engine oil back in. Four months down the road, i get the car back just to have the engine light come back on driving home on a dark road from class. I go back to ford and all but throw the keys at them and tell them i dont want the car period. They conned me back into a 2001 Taurus SES with the same engine and two years later, I'm tracking transmission oil. I refused to take it to ford and took it a trusted mechanic and he informs me that there's a defect in the pan that holds the transmission oil. So I take it back to Ford and they refused to cover it. MY Friendly Suggestion: DONT EVER BUY A FORD PERIOD!!!! Stay with foreign cars. Remeber Ford stands for found on road DEAD. Similar Products Used: 94 Honda CIVIC (much better car) |

crappy tranny, gas mileage...terribly unreliable Bought this car in 3/2002 with 50,000 miles. Transmission exploded 8 weeks later! Had it replaced w/ a used transmission w/ 17,000 miles...installed by Ford Dealer. This tranny broke 11 months later. Had tranny rebuilt. Replaced fuel pump approximately 6 months after buying the car. Now, blown head gasket. This car is the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned other than my ex-husband!! Now Ford wants to charge me 2,400 on a car that's only worth about twice that much if I'm lucky! Ford should be ashamed for selling such poor quality to the American public. No more Fords in this household...Foreign all the way!! Similar Products Used: Had a Ford Tempo in 1988...cost me dearly too...should've learned my lesson |

Strength:
Comfortable mid-sized car. Very reliable. Handles and rides fine. Decent power. Body has held up very well. No rust yet. Heater and A/C work fine even after 10 years. Doors, windows and trunk are still tight.
Weakness:
No major weaknesses so far. Getting a bit crowed due to family growing. Purchased in 1997 with 73,000 kms. Has been a terrific car. Now has 200,000 kms. Replaced the waterpump and done the brakes twice. Found its better to replace the rotors than have them turned. It needs shocks and struts now for the first time. Fan motor is noisy even after replacement. Seats are comfortable and trunk is larger than it looks. The 3.0 litre engine won't win any drag races but is more than enough to get you around. Cruises on hiway very comfortably. After 10 years everything still works. Similar Products Used: None. |

Funny...I can't think of any.
Weakness:
number of trips to the shop. Transmission, everything. If you see one, RUN. I regret the day I saw the car. Bought it with 28,800 miles. At 40,000 transmission mounts went out. The starter went out, brakes are shotty even though I've tried to get them fixed numerous times. Gas milage is also crappy. It has been to the shop several times with bills over $300 and 3 trips to the shop over $600. It doesn't even have 73,000 on it now and the tranmission is sounding shotty. The previous owner took excellent care of it and so do I. Oil change every 2000miles with GTX and Lucas, but obviously it hasn't helped. The interior was perfent when I bought it, but all the paneling is coming apart now! I hate this car and am now looking at Accords. |

Ford Taurus Station Wagon SE
Strength:
Acceleration, this car has quite a bit of pep to it, even at highway speeds. The car has a smooth ride up until 85 mph, above the posted speed obviously, but on long trips, who can help it. Top speed 110 mph. Runs at low RPMs at high speeds. Roomy interior, comfy seats, cup holders. I love the power driver's seat and adjustable pedals, as well as the layout of the instrument panel. This car has endless cargo room. With 60/40 fold down seats there is already an abundance of space, plus the hole in the floor where the third row seats fold down can hold things as well. This car handles very well, I recently drove it from Boise, Idaho to Portland Oregon, which took me over the Cascade Mountain range. The car had no trouble gripping the road over windy mountain passes and canyon roads, at speeds over 70mph. The tires have over 50% tread left, and look safe. The car has 24,000 miles on it.
Weakness:
This car could get better gas mileage. 20mpg city 26mpg highway. I know the technology is out there to get better fuel economy, it's just to bad American car manufacturers are run by oil companies, there isn't an American car that gets 42mpg like a VW jetta or 35mpg like a Honda Civic. This car has the turning radius of a 747. Have fun parallel parking this car. The 12V power points don't work. This car has a lot of blind spots, I suppose because it's a wagon. This has been a great all around car. I have taken it on a few long trips, and it has done well. One problem it has had though is the break lights sticking on. This has happened twice, and both times it was a hassle to get it fixed because Ford dealers are a pain to deal with. I have three keys for the car, all of which have computer chips in them, to keep the car from being stolen, and one of these failed. The dealer wanted to charge me over $200 to fix them and give me three new ones. I wouldn't stand for this and got them to do it all for free. Similar Products Used: 1989 Dodge Colt |

Awesome drive, good pickup, Bigger engine than most tauruses(3.8). Had some ballz and always got looks, looked like an sho.
Weakness:
Lots of problems under the hood, very costly. though the body was great and well worth the money into it. I owned a ford tempo for 3 years which I thought was an awsome car for the fact that their were no real problems, $1000 bucks well spent. Then I got my Taurus, I love the ride, body, and interior, though by about 100,000 I had to rebuild the engine that was already rebuilt, I was running on only four cylander and getting 160 mpg. Adding to that I did the fan, radiator, exaust, and schedualed maitainace. Then the car ran beutiful for about a year, excellent body, my favorite car, until it got totally by a drunk driver, and insurance is giving me 2000. for the car. After six years too may problem. In 6 years, everthing look fine. After 6 years, Transmission broken, Engin got problem. When the transmission broked and put me on the midle of a high way, police man came and told me he has a 1999 turas and had the same problem. One of my friend also told me he has a turas and got the same problem after six years driving, he got a new transmission and the new one broken again in about six years. Does Ford's transmission can only work for six year? |
