dies young, transmissions are horrible, legendary for how bad they are....its a ford... well first off, first I had a taurus. The transmission failed with no warning while the engine was dead to begin with at under a 100K miles. Then, although i shouldn't have, I bought a merdcury sable which is the taurus' sister, same exact piece of junk. The transmission completely broke at 70,000 miles. It was even purchased from an old women who babied it! I rebuilt the tranny 4 times in six months. Sure the tranny place must of stunk, but the pieces in a ford car, especially tauruses and sables just wont work well with eachother and will break. Even if you surf through ebay motors you will see transmission troubles and bad histories on the tauruses being sold. They are junk, and only buy them new, becayse they will die young. Ford Taurus GL 3.0L
Strength:
roomy as hell, great on trips as far as comfort goes. decent power for a car that size. good in snow for a FWD car(from Buffalo, NY)trust me
Weakness:
rough idle, water pump went out early, big and dopey looking, battery has died twice in the four years i've had it, had entire suspension replaced, airbag light randomly comes on, as does brake light and other lights, replaced bulbs several times, coolant system pretty much completely replaced for no good reason, recalls, recalls, recalls, sandy noise in steering column, rust, rust, rust at 130,000, crappy gas mileage. I will never own another Ford. It's Japanese from here on out for me. disappoining seeing as it was one of the most popular family cars for years, but price was right at 93k (all highway miles)and was very friendly to drive for the first year or so, then problem after problem started. Strength:
Appears to be a good value at first look. Drives nice, handles well, plenty of power. At lot of features for the money
Weakness:
Overall quality poor. Ford Motor Company seams to have brushed me off. Perhaps they ahve lost too much money at this point and feels I'm not worth their time. I like the way this automobile drives. Current mileage 42,500. However, I would not recommend buying it. I would not purchase it again if I had it to do over. From the start I had problems. At 3,000 miles, sun/moon roof motor died. At 12,000 miles, front brake rotors needed turning/cutting. Brake shimmy returned at 20,000 miles and remains today. At 12,000 miles gasoline fumes entering the cabin. Dealer did not fix it the first time, I researched Ford TSB's told dealer about problem w/ defective manifold gasket. Gasket changed, problem fixed. At 15,000 miles gasoline fumes return, gasket changed again. At about 24,000 miles engine begain running rough. It had a defective valve in cylinder #4. Valve head changed, 2 weeks w/o vehicle. When head replaced, timing chain was not set correctly. Engine taken apart again and timing chain reset. At 36,100 miles engine would not start. Loose cable at starter solenoid. With towing and repair, cost me $190.71. Ford denied me coverage. Yesterday check engine light came on, engine runs rough. Service scheduled tomorrow. And on I go.. strong, well built car, lots of room, very reliable
Weakness:
under powered , but thats a good thing since my wife has a lead foot. I really like my ford taurus. It has 204000km's on it and it is still going strong. l am still getting very low numbers on emissions tests on it as well. The mechanic who did it said he's never seen emission tests soo low on a car with that many km's on it. The car has also saved my life.. twice, as well as the lives of a few school children. Twice l was stopped at red lights, once with school children cossing and got rear ended. The first time was by a pick-up, and minimal damage was done to my car. The truck wasn't as lucky. The second time was by a Honda Accord which was totaled, and my car suffered even less serious damage than the first time. All within 6 months. The only problem l find with it is there is wind noise comming from the front passinger side, and it seems to be a bit thirsty. My father's windstar gets better milage than my car, but other than that its been a great car. The only problem with it l've had is the ignition went on it at 173 000 km's and a front wheel bearing went at 195 000 kms Similar Products Used: mazda 323, ford escort, ford focus, saturn ls1, mazda 6 |

Ford Taurus Station Wagon
Strength:
The car seems to be well-made, but what good is it if you can't drive it comfortably?
Weakness:
Horrible, torturous driver and passenger seats. Ford refuses to own up to the problem. WARNING! This is absolutely the most uncomfortable car I have ever driven. The lumbar "support" in the seats are placed too high and driving becomes miserable after a couple of hours of sitting in this car. You can't tell this from a short test drive! Ford, of course, refuses to acknowledge the problem and will not help us. We now have a car that neither my wife nor I can drive. The WORST car buying experience of my life. Stay away from the Ford Taurus wagon!!! If others have the same problem, please contact me. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort Wagon. Great car, no problems. |

Weakness:
Little too big for ladies - pedals hard to reach. Left foot was always tired when driving longer. Every Taurus/Ford has same things that have to be replaced (Water pump broke with every Ford vehicle we ever owned). Fords can go up to 130,000, everything over this is pushing it hard. Low resale value. We no longer own this car. It was totally damaged in flood. However, it was a nice vehicle. Very spacious and at the time it had the look. you dont have to make the same mistake i did and be woed by the go-fast engine.
Weakness:
i actually drove this POS for a year (I WANT MY YEAR BACK!) ::weeps:: this car.... where do i start? it was my first car, for one. i never liked domestic cars, but the price was right, and the 220 hp engine was rather attractive. i put about 12000 miles on it in 1 year, i believe. in that time, it was in the shop about 10 times. the battery was replaced 3 times. the front suspension needed to be completely overhauled, as well as the rear struts. the brakes were completely replaced. the cd player fell apart, peice by peice. the interior door panels were falling apart. the engine was "weird," and mechanics wanted to charge us upwards of 300 dollars for things such as spark plug wires. when it idled, it felt like every 5 seconds it was about to die. it got less than 20 miles per gallon (215 miles per tank). i probably bought the car twice over in repairs, and it was in the shop about once a month. even when it was "fixed", it wasnt all that great to drive. weak transmition, little things made of plastic break alot. first off, i'm a student. a station wagon is not my thing. but none the less the car is fairly sharp and modern. the 200 hp has pep to it but the transmition makes it so you would never even think or racing(gota change that). but it is smooth and has a great ride. up till now all my problems have been minior. but now my transmition is messed up and have have no idea how to fix it. about 2k for a new tranny. also the little things break easily(cup holders handles, mostly cosmetic stuff) but i have found the engin to be bullet proof. great over all car with tons of room. defenitly get the upgraded enginthough. well worth it.
