powerfull engin, roomy, under apreashated so it cheap.
Weakness:
weak transmition, little things made of plastic break alot. first off, i'm a student. a station wagon is not my thing. but none the less the car is fairly sharp and modern. the 200 hp has pep to it but the transmition makes it so you would never even think or racing(gota change that). but it is smooth and has a great ride. up till now all my problems have been minior. but now my transmition is messed up and have have no idea how to fix it. about 2k for a new tranny. also the little things break easily(cup holders handles, mostly cosmetic stuff) but i have found the engin to be bullet proof. great over all car with tons of room. defenitly get the upgraded enginthough. well worth it. Ford
Strength:
Very roomy vehicle, very roomy trunk, low price
Weakness:
EVERYTHING about this car's design. It is very cheap and of poor quality. Haven't you realized that all other Ford models have been recalled or taken off the public consumer market? No more proteges, probes, escorts. Crown Victorias have been recalled as well as the 1997 Ford Explorer. This should tell you something. Where do I even begin with this horrible, awful, always malfunctioning "car"? I will never, ever in a million years, even if I were paid the entire price of a brand new Ford, purchase a Ford ever again. First, the brake pads and rotors had to be replaced at about 40k, okay, understandble. Before that, it was the battery (car only had 30k on it), next, the alternator went. Then it was the MultiFunction Switch - sometimes the turn signals would work and most of the time, they would not. The Hazards wouldn't either. The windshield wiper fluid would never come out when the switch was depressed. Mechanics and dealers never identified the problem because the lights would work when the car was in the shop. The radio light never comes on (unless you bang repeatedly on it). The car always had a funny odor coming out of it unless you hose it down with air freshener. The trunk hardly ever stayed up when it was opened. The wipers were shotty. The car, if you touch it, crumples upon even the slightest impact - I found this out by brushing against a small pole by a gas station - lower part of passenger side door smashed. Also, the paint chips so easily! The throttle body had to be replaced at 50K. The air filter is faulty. The diagnostic computer on the car was recalled. It gave wrong error codes all the time so mechanics were fixing things that never repaired the problem. Now, the transmission is gone at 50K. Everytime I put the car in gear, it dies. If I am able to get it in drive, when I come to a stop, I am jerked forward or I stall. Dealer said it was just my imagination. I purchased this car in 2001 so it was 3 years old - a HORRIBLE move to make with Ford. 3 years is pretty much the cut off for reliable service with Ford. If you don't know, now you know. And don't get me started on the rude service dealers. You can never get an appointment when you want to see them. If it's January 1, maybe you can see your dealer in March. If you still purchase this crappy car after reading this review, you deserve what happens with whatever Ford you purchase. Ask anyone who has had a Ford! They SUCK. Have you driven a Ford lately? If you're a Ford owner, then probably not b/c it's always in the shop! Similar Products Used: Toyota Camry |

Ford Taurus
Strength:
A lot of space, so a family of five can travel comfortably
Weakness:
This car just isn't built well. And the parts are of inferior quality. You can't count on the Ford Taurus to be reliable. It falls apart as soon as you drive it off the lot. Our 1999 Ford Taurus stationwagon has only 60,000 miles on it. At 30,000 miles, we had to replace a front tie rod and, a few months later, the front brakes. We had to replace the back brake pads twice because of a defective caliper. At 40,000 miles, the rear "Liddy" brake light fell out and had to be replaced. At 50,000 miles, the starter went, plus we had to replace the radiator overflow reservoir. At 60,000 miles, the tensioner for the serpentine belt had to be replaced, and then the transmission went!! People with cars with 100,000 miles on it haven't had half the problems we have had with our Ford. Every month there's a new mechanical headache to deal with. I even called Ford Motor Company to complain, but they just brushed me off. |

Taurus SHO
Strength:
Powerful Yamaha engine, fully loaded, unique, nice styling.
Weakness:
Expensive replacement parts, too much plastic in the interior, doesn't get the respect it deserves. Ford mechanics didn't get much training on these cars. I am driving my 2nd Taurus SHO and this is the only Taurus model I would ever own. The 3.2 Yamaha V6 is a rocket and holds its own against most sports cars. This car has a huge following and due to its retirement after 1999, has gained in popularity. I am the founder of my own SHO club, www.picturetrail.com/tidewatershoclub . I have a fully loaded automatic 94, and I enjoy having luxury features in a fast sedan. Parts are hard to find and are expensive. It almost takes an expert to do any jobs on the engine. Fit and finish should have been better for a nearly $30k car when new. I love my SHO, nevertheless. Similar Products Used: 93 Taurus SHO, 98 Lumina police package (9C3), Bonneville SE |

The base 3.0L could use some more power. WHERE DID THE SHO GO. I needed a new car to replace my full sized Ford van (320,000 miles) and couldnt afford insurance on a new sports car. I saw this Taurus and loved the new style. It is extremely roomy, sporty, reliable, and cheap to drive. I love it. I,ve driven the base engine with 155 hsp., and compared with the 200 hsp., there is not a significant drop off in gas mileage. Seems to be very comfortable to travel in due to the lumbar support in the front seats.
Weakness:
Car is quiet for the most part, however ford engineers need to resolve wind noise from the outside mirrors. I have driven the vehicle for all of 3 days. I'm excited and thrilled to drive a 24 valve 200 horsepower engine. It really has good road manners and accleration is more than adeguate even when running the air conditioner. On the interstate you can merge quickly and use the passing lanes with confidence. |

Taurus GL 3.0
Strength:
Roomy car for big guys. Friendly for the DIY home mechanic. New and used parts are very common and easy to find. Family friendly prices on gently used models.
Weakness:
Tranny is terrible and lets go fast!!! MAKE SURE to check your fluids. Tranny fluid was red one month, burnt coffee the next. Paint peels and fades. Power seat bezel breaks easy. 3.8 nitorious for oil leaks, get the 3.0. I had owned a 90 "Fordzda" Probe GT and was gun shy about buying another Ford product. I bought the Taurus GL in 2000 with 49K on it. The water pump went at 89K last year. Easy fix and cheap DIY. Tranny acted up at 94K with hard, did I say HARD, up and down shift. It took 3 times to diagnose the value body was shot. Had the tranny rebuilt for $1400 and it runs like new again. I am now searching for a SHO and would buy another Taurus again. speedometer and transmition have some type of relational instability (adrupt switching of gears). Purchased the car at 60k and by 75k I had to replace the transmition. By 77k my speedometer and transmition were adruptly moving up and down (rpms). I've taken it to a machanic twice and can not find the problem. |

Weakness:
transmission, check engine light & controls, alignment & makes noise when stopping, it seems that Ford should be covering these faulty items!!!!! A/C & Radiator had to be replaced. Transmission makes a "clunk" when stopping, like it is slipping. Check engine light kept coming on, had repaired twice but still kept coming on, had to have pollution controls replaced. Does hold an alignment, had transmission fluids & filters changed, but still makes a slipping noise... have spent over $1,200 and still can't find what is wrong. ROOMY!!! Smooth ride, clean, no problems, knock on wood! A/C vent for rear passengers, great sound system, roomy trunk. BUT I purchased from a trustworthy dealer, and would only buy again from THEM!
Weakness:
Hazard lights don't work and the molding above the gauge controls is popping up. Because of the high mileage, I've been paying over $50 every 3,000 miles for synthetic oil that I hope is better for it. We needed a larger car for our growing family. I was a little hesitant because it had high miles and I had heard the Taurus reputation, but there was only one owner previously so I took a chance. Boy, am I happy. Similar Products Used: None, really. We had a sports car and an SUV before. The SUV was getting old and it was like a tin box, not something I considered safe for my family. (1990 Trooper) |
