Model Reviewed: Ford Thunderbird

Strength:

-Very reliable
-Low maintenance
-Great styling
-Interior looks classy
-Great riding car
-Great car for pulling motorcycle trailers

Weakness:

-3.8 V6 could use more power
-Head gasket should last longer than 141,000 miles

This 1993 Thunderbird has been the best car I have ever owned. I have driven the car over 200,000 miles and have only replaced a head gasket at 141,000 miles (brakes and tires don't count). The handling is great. The 3.8 V-6 is a little down on horsepower but it's been a relatively good engine. The car has great styling and the interior is top notch.

Strength:

PLENTY OF POWER, GOOD HANDLING.

Weakness:

THIS V8 HAS A PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT USUALLY CRACKS AND LEAKS WATER/COOLANT AT 40,000 OR SO MILES. MANY T-BIRD OWNERS HAVE HAD ENGINE FAILURE BECAUSE OF THIS. YOUR FORD DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY THIS DEFECT IN MOST CASES. AT LEAST, THEY DID NOT IN MINE. IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY FROM $750 TO $1,000 PARTS AND LABOR TO GET IT REPAIRED AND TAKE 2 DAYS TO GET THE CAR BACK. I HAVE PURCHASED 8 NEW FORDS OVER THE YEARS, BUT THIS WILL BE THE LAST ONE BECAUSE OF THE GRIEF THE MANIFOLD PROBLEM HAS CAUSED. THERE ARE OTHER FORD PRODUCTS WITH PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS....LOTS OF LUCK IF YOU HAPPEN TO BUY ONE

FUN CAR, GOOD BODY STYLING, PLENTY OF POWER, OVERALL GOOD VEHICLE

Model Reviewed: T-Bird 3.8

Strength:

RW drive, the looks, the cabin (everything is tilted towards the driver for maximum convinence), engine block is big enough for many upgrades (the 3.8 really needs it), very very very comforterable seats

Weakness:

145 hp on a 3.8? a camaro of the same year and same engine size gets 200. what was ford doing when they designed this thing? and the 4.6 and SC aren't that much better getting only 205 and 210 respectively. The tranny is giving me problems, Im not holding pressure so unless I throw it in drive right away and go, Itll stall every time. The doors are long and heavy, so the hinges need to be replaced b/c when the door opens it drops about an inch. This car needs rear disc brakes, especailly with no ABS.

I fell in love with Thunderbirds when I was about 14 years old. So naturally when I turned 16 and had enough money to get my first car, this car was my first choice. Thunderbirds are VERY popular in this area, even though the winters aren't appropriate for this RW drive vehicle.

Strength:

Comfortable, quick, good handling & ride, V8 engine is smooth & sounds great, sharp looking, gets lots of complements

Weakness:

Reliabilty of the transmission and plastic intake manifold, did not come with traction-lok (limited slip differential)

I loved the MN12 T-Bird ever since it came out in '89. When I found this '97 for sale I had to have it! It has the V8 and the sport package which comes with bigger wheels & tires, firmer suspension and bigger front brakes. The car is great fun to drive and is very comfortable. Haven't had any trouble with the brakes or intake manifold. The only problem I've had is with transmission shudder which was fixed under warranty. Overall the car is almost perfect, it just needs traction-lok to make it easier to drive in winter, but I've owned rear-drive cars all my life so it's not a big deal. If you are looking to buy one I recommend the V8, it's a much better engine and only slightly harder on gas, and the sport package if you can find it.

several mecanical problems ,trans, driveshaft capanion flange, plastic intake manifold [left me walking]cracked without warning, real hard to change the oil filter,

Strength:

1995 Thunderbird LX V8 4.6L OHC with dual exhaust
(modified):2.5" Flowmaster and ground effects! It is metalic green in color with green window tinting that fades to black (from to bottom of tint). Future modifications are as follows: K&N Filters dnad fuel injection system; change hardtop to convertable top and upgrade engine to 400hp.

Weakness:

DRINKS GAS! Burns ignition wires.

I would quickly recommend an LX V8 4.6 or SC to any sports car enthusiast that want the speed and attraction of a sports car, but don't have the budget of a 5.0 or higher! It's fast, powerful and affordable!!!!

Model Reviewed: ford t-bird lx V-8

Strength:

My T-bird has sex appeal, a bunch of luxury and alot of nut for the price.

Weakness:

I've had some bad luck with it so far. Between having the tranny rebuilt twice in less then a year and some severe and ongoing electrical problems, the car has left me walking a few times.

It has definitely been a love hate relationship. My father has owned many T-birds in his lifetime and stands by them religiously, as do I. Unfortunately, my T-bird has been trying my patience. I would like to believe it is this individual that has been trying to break my trust in the almighty blue oval. Whoever had that poor car before me must have done some pretty assinine things tot he thing.

Right now, there isn't a car that compares with the T-bird. It outclasses everything that it sits next to.

Weakness:

Had this car 2 months... transmission was starting to go, so I saving up $ to rebuild... then one of the fuel injectors failed, I took it into the ford dealership (FIESTA FORD, INDIO) and THEY BLEW THE ENGINE while diagnosing the problem! I've been working on rebuilding it... the design makes it real dificult to do any work... drop the gastank to pull the driveshaft? Empty the airconditioning to work on engine? Drop the subframe to pull the oil pan? I've barely started and dread what i'll have to do next... DON'T BUY A FORD!!! YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!

DON'T BUY A FORD!

Model Reviewed: LX 4.6L V-8

Strength:

I can't begin to tell you what I love about this car, MY "Bird" deemed black beauty. First the neck wrenching power on take off. The V-8 my be small for the weight but it rockets from take off. Add an aftermarket performance chip and you will see just what it can do. Later for Stang GT's. The Bird just plain looks good...sorry great. It has an agressive stance and drop it a bit and it gets even better. It looks as strong as it performs. I also like the fact that it is an easy platform for after-market add ons to beef up the apperance. I sport a 2 inch drop and 18 inch rims...yes, 18 inch rims with 245/40 rubber. Limo tint windows all around on a black car leaves all on lookers in awe. Mary stated "they have never seen such a wicked T-Bird." Interior room is also a plus because i am 6 feet talland clock in at 270. It is a big car with a sports car feel. She is very solid cornering thanks to the drop and the big rubber. If you add dual chamber Flowmasters to the stock exaust you will be rewarded with a growl that will not only make you smile with pride but weaken the knees of those around you. I love this car.

Weakness:

The weight of this car is one thing. She is a little heavy. The transmission shutter is also bothersome. Other than that the 105 mph limiter. I don't like to lose only because I can't excede 105. Other that that NOTHING.

If you are going to buy a car...buy American and buy Ford. There is not a prettier car on the road than the T-Bird. The power...the appeal...the value. 18 to 80 dumb crippled or crazy, thr Ford T-bird is the choice. Don't be discouraged by the weaknessess because every car has them. My baby is beautiful and I wouldn't part with her for anything. Buy a Bird and see.
