Strength:

-GOOD STYLING
-LOTS OF HEAD AND LEG ROOM
-VERY SOLID FEEL WHEN DRIVING
-GOOD GRIP IN TURNS(EXCEPT IN WET CONDITIONS!!)
-LOTS OF OPTIONS FOR PRICE
-PULLS HARD ALL THE WAY TO THE REDLINE WHEN PUSHED TO THE FLOOR

Weakness:

The head gasket problem was caught during a recall by the dealer. The real problem was a faulty sparkplug that threw the engine for a loop, causing the engine to R.I.P.. But thanks to a very courteous dealership, a brand-new motor was dropped in and that was over 6000 miles ago! The performance since then is well beyond what it was before and gas mileage is way better.

If you're looking for a value that you won't regret, I would recommend getting one. It had less than 25000 miles on it in early 97 and it was a rental car at one point. definitly a value

Model Reviewed: Ford Thunderbird LX V8

Strength:

I LOVE the looks of the car, the V8 has some serious BALLS, well, power, that is. The interior is the best design I have EVER seen, very ergonomic, and very comforatable. The tranny shifts very smoothly, yet the engine/trans. are very responsive when you need them to be. Very well designed, hard to redline, yet, still a good performer. Premium sound is great for being a factory system. The car handles, and rides very well. I absolutely LOVE the paint job, it is light blue, or purple, or gray, or just blue. I get compliments on the paint, and the car every day. It's a real eye catcher, since the 96-97 were not popular models, and not too many people have them. This car is definantly a Pimpin' cruiser. Luxury and performance for a great price. As Ferris Beuler said: "I love driving it...It is so choice; if you have the means, you should definantly pick one up." I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants to be a badass with a badass car!! Ford Power For Ever!

Weakness:

Not the best gas milage, all though not bad for being a powerful, awesome V8. The 108mph limiter is an inconveniance, but honestly, do we really need to drive that fast? If you don't have ABS, it's easy to lock up the brakes, and sliding we go...and if you don't have traction control, rain is complete terror!! Other than that, this car is awesome, and wonderful, and I really can't think of any other car in the world that is better than the V8 thunderbird, well, exept a Dodge Viper Venom with 650 horses!! But that's too much money, so for everyone whose name doesn't happen to be Bill Gates, Buy a Thunderbird!!

Well, I paid $8600.00 for my 96 with 71,000 miles on it, which is 4000 off of bluebook and it is less than what you find an identical car with a V6 going for. a lot of miles, but this car was cared for!! If you find the right deal, get one. It's a dying breed, it's the "American Classic" as ford put it. Where else can you find V8 power Rear Wheel drive, Extreme luxury, and badassness at this price?? T-bird is the best car ever!!! And that's all I have to say about that.

Similar Products Used:

1994 Ford F-150 302 V8 It's not as powerful, eats twice the gas, and is alot harder to manuver. Also, a 1998 Mercury Mystique V6--Definantly would be considered a "Pocketbook Rocket" by most people in today's standards of front-wheel-drive cars. Still not as luxurious, or powerful, or badass as my thunderbird, but not a bad car.

This car has a very powerful engine for a v-6,have'nt really tromped it yet ,trying to take care of it. Owned it about 6 months & no repairs as of yet. 110,000 miles & still going!!!!!

Weakness:

Transmission shifts rough, power steering pump noisy, wish the rear speakers were in back dash!!!

For $2200.00 i think i did alright , still a strong car for 110,000 miles.
I would recommend this car to my friends or anyone looking for a dependable used car.

The sweet sound of the supercharger reminds me of a jet taking off, the ground effects kit and alloy rims give the car appeal. The roomy and stylish half leather half cloth interior in my car are a definate bonus. and Fast? i've easily beaten Mustang 5.0's, some camaro's, and Monte SS's are a joke

Weakness:

MPG MPG MPG!!! this car eats gas... still working on fixing that one... and mine tends to run hot... although a 160 thermostat will remedy that problem... TRANSMISSION CAN NOT HANDLE THE POWER! but if you got the $$$ to fix it drive on!

I paid $4400 for the car on my 18th birthday... happy B-Day to me... i love the car... a definate must have for speed freaks.... lots of fun things to do to this car to make it even faster

Model Reviewed: Thunderbird 3.8

Strength:

I love my T-bird for what it is---A Stylish cruising car. The 96-97 models have the best styling of the MN-12 platform. My car has is gold with a factory spoiler and dark tinted windows. Step in the interior and you're greeted with a cockpit style interior that curves towards the driver. The breaks on the car are excellent--mine is equipped with 4-wheel disk with ABS. The suspension is also excellent--It's one of the few rear-wheel drive cars produced with an independent rear suspension. The car is a pure pleasure to drive on the highway. At high speeds, the car is sure-footed and stable. The 3.8 V6 is an adequate powerplant that has excellent torque--215 FT/lbs at a low 2,750 RPM. The engine's excellent torque allows the car to cruise at 60MPH with the tach barely ticking at 1800 RPM; at 100 MPH, the tach reads 3000 RPM--provides for excellent cruising fuel economy. The engine is in excellent shape after 67,000 miles. I use synthetic oil, and the engine consumes less than 1/8th of a quart between oil changes, and that's even with lots of hard driving. The car has class, which is uncommon in todays cars. It is a true pleasure to drive.

Weakness:

The stock alloy wheels are stylish, but small. They're 15 inch and are built to wear not-so-low-profile balloon looking P21570R15 tires. The Sport T-bird's 16 inch alloys are a better choice. The 3.8 V-6, is somewhat noisy and rough and could use more than 145 HP. Although mine hasn't given me any problems at 67k miles, the 3.8 is notorious for headgasket failure, so I would avoid a T-bird with this engine. The car also has a 108 MPH speed limiter (based on stock tire temp rating) that cuts fuel until car slows to 108MPH or slower. It's a real bummer considering that the car loves to run at high speeds and cruises effortlessly at 90MPH.

The T-Bird is an outstanding value for the money. I bought mine last year (may99) for $10,500 with 39,000 miles on it and consider all that I got: V-6, all power options including driver seat, electronic climate control, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, spoiler, 4-wheel disk ABS brakes, Fully Independent front and rear suspensions, Rear wheel drive, Oustanding style and comfort, 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, full instrumentation including tachometer, oil press. gauge, voltmeter, 120 MPH speedometer, and just pure class and styling. If you buy a T-bird, I definitly recommend buying one with the v-8 and at least all of the options that I've got. I also recommend getting either a 96 or 97 model--they've got the best styling (in my opinion) and have most of the bugs worked out, unlike privious years. The 96&97 models also have a newer &improved transmission (the 4R70W) that's still in use today. If you get a 96 or 97 v-8 model, I recommend finding own that has the sport package, which includes 16 inch alloys and a stiffer suspension. T-birds also came with leather and a sunroof, which is also something to shop for.

1992 Ford tempo v-6---owned for a year with no problems whatsoever. It was totaled in a accident
1994 Pontic grand prix 3.1 v-6---owned for three months--had nothing but major problems. It had a strange bearing noise that sounded like piston slap and consumed more than a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. The engine also had a strange burning plastic smell.
1995 Pontic Grand-AM GT CPE V-6---fun to drive car with V-6 and leather seats. The car had a cheap looking plastic interior (like most GM cars) compared to my T-Bird. The engine had major problems at 65k miles--it leaked more than a quart of oil out of the main oil seal (between engine and tranny) per 1,000 miles. The struts made weird sound when going over bumps. The car was destroyed in the May 3rd tornado.

Strength:

The car has good power and performance for size, the seats are comfortable, the dash is user friendly, and it looks good. Has a big trunk.

Weakness:

The transmission has just now started to give me problems at 112k miles, when I got the car it only had 80k back in late '99. Wish it wasn't an automatic. The brakes are not up to high speed driving - the discs warp quickly.

For the price I paid it was a deal. I got all the power I needed, cause if I got any more I would have alot more tickets. The seats are great, and everything is user friendly. I can take both wheels of my mountain bike and toss it all in the trunk along with all my tools and extra oil, water and a large tarp - like to be ready. If your looking for a good looking car to drive around daily, at a few miles over the speed limit and need a little extra umph to get around the slow bastard in the fast lane, get one. If you think you are Mark M. or Dale E. then you need to keep looking cause the brakes and the transmission are not cut out for constant high speed driving.

The car HAS to have +93 octane!

I would really recommend this car. It was my first car and I have been happy with it. All my friends are in aww with the supercharger. If I had to do it over, I would. The firm ride really does make a diffrence when on very stubby roads, i.e, bumpy. I paid $5500 for it. The best investment I have ever made.

Im 6'4" and this car fit me like a glove, great to have rear wheel drive and had brand new slicks in under 6 monthes. If your tranny is workin right this car is the goods from 30 to 70. Smoothest goddamned ride at all speeds, got mine up to 125 ish with help of a japanes cars speedo (only 85 registers in tbirds). Tinted my windows, put in a system and damn I love ridin in this car.

Weakness:

Head Gasket blew at 92,000, if you get your windows tinted fix both window regulators asap or you'll have stripes. THIS CAR BLOWS IN SNOW, I banged it up twice goin under 30, but I'm movin to Florida so... If you smoke up them tires DO NOT drive in any slick conditions unless you can regain control of your now sideways car. I've replaced front pads and rotors twice within 10,000 miles and a motor and tranny mount but if you drive normally you'll be fine. I got the green car, it came with pink stripes - HAVE THEM REMOVED, I did it and put black and silver and it makes a hell of a difference.

I picked this puppy up for 5,000 with 90,000 miles on it and have put just about 20,000 on it in a year and nothing major has gone wrong- minus the head gasket. I had pretty much the whole front end replaced - struts, ball joints, mounts and brakes and tires and with that the car rides like a cloud doin anything from 5 to 120 mph's. This car has taken a beating from me and made me happy, your not going to beat any v8's and might get smoked by a dual cam pontiac but when you can blow this car around sideways and smoke your open diff really nicely, WHO CARES? The one big warning is to get a 1 or 2 year warrenty if its the regular 3.8 with over 80,000 miles. It's the safe bet and you can then romp on the car and only have to replace your head gasket every 30,000 miles. With that said it's time to drop this baby off at the shop for a new tranny!

Strength:

-Good looking body.
-Strong, smooth V-8 engine.
-Nice leather interior.
-Fully instrumented dash (I hate idiot lights)
-comfortable seats.
-Decent CD/stereo. (Better than I usually expect from the factory)
-Sporty ride without being harsh or jarring.
-Sport package has cool 16inch alloy wheels.
-a pleasure to drive, weather you're in the easy cruise mode or feeling a little racy.

Weakness:

-Brake rotors tend to warp.
-"special order" pealescent white paint difficult to touch up.
-Began to rust under doors in 3 years.
-Rear taillamps are a sealed LED unit that must be replaced if burned out-pricey!
-105mph speed limiter-A bummer, this car pulls hard right up to this point then peters out, would be interesting to see just how far that speedo would go....
-

I always liked these cars. Rear wheel drive V-8 cars are hard to find anymore. Paid about 10 grand for the car with 48,000 miles two years ago. Now has 75,000 relatively trouble free miles. It's paid for and I plan to keep it for a while. For the money these cars are hard to beat. Fun to drive and it looks good. I like power and this car delivers, while maintaining a rather classy image. It's no Acura, but then again, they cost about half of what an Acura costs! I still like it!
